Can any one remember this? Was it ever played at Wigan Casino? I believe it's on the same label as Benny Troy "I want to give you tomorrow"? His last night was the night the big banner "Keep the faith not the funk" banner was hung over the balcony. Me and me mate from Boston got quite a hefty petition signed in support of Sam - didn't change anything, but proved Sam had plenty of supporters at the time. Sad night for the cassino when they gave Sam the elbow. If it was for playing Coffee that is. He had a very good fan base up there but all the annal ''soul ceased to be made after 69'' brigade influenced the decision. Look what he made space for ...shit like Joe 90 and the like. I know he was upset but his freinds stood by him and look what he has achieved since....You can probably gather from this that I didnt agree with his sacking but like so many others we just payed to get in and our opinions didnt matter. Had the privilege of interviewing him whilst gathering info for The Precisions album on Joe Boy/Inferno - he tells great stories about Detroit in the 60's. I happily signed it ridiculous desicion - great Dj and king rarities at the time too. Casanova was never his best but as Ian D will confirm quite common for new obscurities to get played then, and for them to get pressed in quantity and even chart. Sam was the spinner of this one, it was massive at the winter gardens Cleethorpes, hugh floor filler too, six weeks after him promoting it for what seemed like an age it hit the charts and was never played again ..... Loads of new releases played John - look at the 76/ 77 period: Eddie Holman "This will be a night", Silvetti "Spring rain", Tavares "It only takes a minute" and "Heaven must be mising an angel", Anthony White on Salsoul, Brainstorm "Loving is really my game"......all massive at Wigan . What heady days they were. "Casanova" although was just another one in that line. Also Leon Bryant "hotsy Totsy" big at Wigan around the same time as Casanova, maybe a bit later.
