Souled Out Film Hits Trouble?

Maybe they've done all the close up dancing scenes already and just need the other extras for crowd scenes?

Richard's cousin went to Stoke, she's a trained dancer and I would have thought they would have tried a bit harder with her as ,although she didn't really know how to dance in the proper "Northern" style, she quite clearly could have picked it up as she is trained in ballet and jazz dance. When they called her to ask her to go they asked her about her dancing experience but she was largely ignored when she got there. And she's a skinny 17 year old who would have looked the part :D

Yes we expected a lot of waiting around so wasn't surprised about that. When I said that some of the dance scenes made me cringe I wasn't refering to those from the agencies etc who couldn't dance the 'Northern Style' but a group of dancers who were part of a group known as *** Dancers who were called upon to do the close up scenes of northern dancing, these, it seems, were meant to be those who could do the dancing, Obiviously I'm only commenting on a few minutes of the film which may have taken forever to film but what bothered me was that despite the fact that my lad and one or two others had been asked about there dancing capabilities they were, has you said in the main ignored.

No, don't know who he is, the only one I know is the costume chap, and I only heard from him yesterday cos he wanted to know how to get audio tracks off a dvd I did him onto an ipod

Yes. yes Pete....He wanted your wardrobe more like :g:

p.s. Levine came on here slagging people off for being negative about the film. That would indicate he knows more than us? Cos, on the face of it, it looks like a pile of S--te!

He doesn't, honestly. He would have liked to be involved I think.

Sounds like the dummies firmly out the pram! rolleyes.gif

The talk about young people on the scene ruining it is limited to one or two people and the odd post - it's not something I see regularly.

If you don't want to play with us anymore we'll understand.

Paul, can I just say that you come across really badly on this forum. I think that you write a lot of these thing's to provoke people possibly for your own amusement but if there is one person I know that's not up his own arse it's Paul Walker. We all went down and did the film because it was a chance to be involved in something that doesn't happen to us lot every day. Whether we got paid or not didn't really matter to us. We just wanted to be involved in some capacity.

Yes the production team were clueless. Yes we waited around for what was literally day's on end and that was enough for me to eventually pack it in and come home. But I don't regret doing it and we all had a really good laugh.

Whether or not the style of dancing will be exactly like it was in 1974 doesn't really matter to 90% of the people that will watch it and it unimportant to the film, in my opinion. I think that people on this site are full of self importance and up their own arses if they believe thaf people in the outside world give a stuff about what they think. Because we certainly don't.

If the film is crap or if it doesn't even make it to the big screen then it will be a shame. But let's be honest, the flim never stood a chance with the keyboard mafia on here.

Anyway, you've done it Mr Sadot. You've made me bite so that's possibly 1-0 to you.

Fair enough you got me, am beaten, I surrender...

Just sick of hearing about this bloody film before the thing has been released, think you should give it a chance, you never know it could suprise every one!!

I think you'll find most of us will wait and see, we don't all claim to have an all seeing ability to know we are right before the event takes place.

When I read the first post in the thread about the film being allegedly in trouble I did think that gloating is one of the most unattractive personality traits that can be displayed.

It's also one of the most base.

99% of people gloat without meaning to - they can't help it, it's Human Nature.

They can however help rattling off a 200 word essay on how they believed they were right and popping up on here for all to see.

All this talk of this site and the keyboard mafia and all that is not doing justice to the members of this site, who they are and the knowledge and (valid) opinions they have. If you took the northern scene as it is now and took the active Soul Source members out of it, it wouldn't be the same scene. Therefore we are (like it or not) part of it. We were here before the film. We have the right to comment and pass our views on it.

I for one would have been surprised and disappointed if questions were not asked as to authenticity, style & content.

Not sure if the question has been answered yet regarding how widely available this film will be in regional cinemas. Hopefully we'll all get to see it. Hopefully it may inspire some new blood. Hopefully their hearts will be gripped by the fantasticness of what is good soul music and that can only be a good thing for everybody.

Ian what about the new blood that came along 10 years ago, went on to start their own nights, got asked to be in music video's and film's and then came under a barrage of abuse for everything they've acheived in that short time. According to people on this site (and I'm not talking about everyone on here I'm talking about a minority that just so happen to be posting regulary therefore contribute greatly to the impression people get of the site as a whole) the night's we do are fad's, the video's are crap and the film's are shite.

How do you expect us to respect these people? I know a lot of people that don't post on here anymore because it's so two faced and the amount of negativity it unbelievable. Young people are not respected on the soul scene as a whole. They will never penetrate the scene because the scene won't allow them to. That's why we're off doing our own thing now and the soul scene becomes irelivent to us because its stuck in the past and doesn't represent what we feel about soul music.

The constant slagging hurts for a while. Then you learn to see it for what it really is. Jealousy.

I can only speak of my own experiences. I went to the 100 Club for something like 15 years and didn't know that many people. It's only been since being a member here that I have met more people. For me that's been a good thing.

One things for sure though, a love of music would keep me involved, no matter what.

I was led to believe, through one of the production team (don't recalll the name) that the film was due to be shown initially at Cannes next year then for general release.

On the point made by someone earlier about who will see the film then I suggest that in the main the viewing will be done by the soul fans around the world and not by Joe public who (like some on the set) have no idea what Wigan Casino was or what N/soul is all about .

On having a jibe at young people well all I can say is my lad is a N/S fan and takes great care to imitate some of the best dancers you can see on the few films, dvds etc available about the early days. its not a jibe at the young but a jibe, if you want to call it that, at the lack of education re the scene toward the youngsters there. They were dancing as they thought best, it isn't there fault that they were not given proper instruction.

Well said that man, I've given up passing comment or opinion on here, just watch the sales/wants sections and bump the radio show information once a week, I don't give a flying fig what dig's and snide little comments people slip in here and there, like if you don't attend gigs then you are somehow not involved in the music which is total bollocks, basically if you have something to say then say it, I've pretty much given up attending events, DJ'ing etc. as it basically bores the shit out of me, would sooner go and watch my lad play football and do other stuff.

I admire your commitment and good luck to you.

Regards - Mark Bicknell.

Good news if it's on general release. You can't tell who will want to see it and who won't. You can't say it'll only be soulies. The admen have had a ball with NS tunes in the mainstream media in recent years. Who can tell who will want to see it? Not to mention what the advertising/promotional budget will be and how effective that will be.

As you've quoted me, I feel obliged to ask why you keep going on about jibes against the young. Who has been doing this jibing?

And Quadraphenia was only watched by mods? Er, AFAIK it was one of the keys to the mod revival around 79? That and related music was used in TV programmes and was being performed by current acts.

Sound familiar?

Oh, and you'll find that Quad is widely criticised for its anachronisms too. Didn't stop it having a big effect on a lot of young people at the time.

I think its a North West thing Ian. When I lived in Manch I was in a pub just off the Ashton Old Road in Gorton. A fella with a head covered in bruises cuts and tattoo's was talking to the barman about a fight he'd had in another pub earlier on in the afternoon.

The tats man said "He was calling me so I bit his ######## ear off".

With lugs like mine, I decided straight away to never learn this guys name and try to attract his attention. :P

Later I had the same explaination given to me that Paul just gave you.

My god, what a bunch of hard done by 'cry babies'. The fact that you dont give a 'f***' about how you present yourself in an, advertised, 'HISTORICAL' representation of a specific period says it ALL. If you went to see a world war 2 film and a f--king muskateer rode through the battle scene, I guess you wouldn't blink an eyelid...you surrealist you! So, you believe that the dancing in a film about WIGAN CASINO is uninmportant....as I said, nuff said mate.

You seem to have a paranoia or persecution complex about being young? At no point have i mentioned age? You can, like yourself, be ignorant at any age. I dont give a f--k about your age, you obviously use it as an excuse for everything.
