Guest Ferrett
Just a quick note to say thanks from myself and Chimene (Crystal Tipps) for the friendly reception we got up at Deeside yesterday. Popped in for a few hours on the way back from shopping at Cheshire Oaks A great little Civic Hall venue looking like a scaled down version of Rugby or Winsford. Could make a cracking Niter venue. Superb smooth dancefloor. A good selection of oldies with a sprinkling of nice tracks mixed in. We particularly enjoyed :- I'm Lonely - Martha Starr, Footsteps - Creations, Let's take a look...- Emory & the Dynamics, Dilly,Dilly -Jeffrey Allan, Tears are gifts from heaven? - Gloria Shannon The last two were completely new to me and any info on these tracks would be appreciated (labels, costs etc.). Think I may have the title wrong on the last one. Good to see Marcel, Debbie from Manchester, Steve Thomas etc as well as the North Wales crowd that came down to the recent Shrewsbury Allnighter. Cheers for making me laugh with your description of handbag dancers. From now on I (like you) shall be calling them 'Dinglers'!!! Also cheers to Johnny Fingers and the promoters for two cracking CD's!! Finally, this post cannot be complete without a mention of the Peardrop flavoured Vodka that they stock at this venue. Tastes like alcoholic cough medicine and turns ya tongue blue. HIGHLY recommended!!!!! Keep it soulful up there in North Wales chaps. Neil & Chimene Edited November 2, 2008 by Ferrett Link to comment

Ficklefingers
" W - O - W " !! Finally got back to my house at 4pm this afternoon, after leaving it at 3.30 the previous Friday.. with only a fleeting return of three hours, on Saturday.. to re-freshen my self and change for the continuation, of what has been THE most hectic weekend, yet, of my Dee Jaying adventures. It ALSO turned out to be one of THE most suprisingly eventfull too - in it's own (personal) way.. !! Wanted to post, just a quick comment, before taking my rest - then giving you my (almost customary, now..)'take' on my first ever visit to this promotion and venue : The Deeside All Dayer at the Civic Centre in Connah's Quay.. but the opening line gives you a FAIR indication of the over all sentiments I will be expessing later, and in more detail. Once I've 'recovered' enough to have sufficient energy to compile it that is.. !! Very Soon.. Don't go TOO FAR away !! Fingers.. Link to comment

Soulgrit
Part l. The Welsh sing 'there's a welcome in the hillside', well I certainly got a very friendly welcome at the quayside , Walked through the door's at 4.45pm to be greeted by Mossy & the Mrs, must have timed it right as Steve T was at the bar (cheer's for the Magners mate), I met a lovely bunch of people at this venue. Went there on my way to Bishop Wood (part ll), and as it was my first time at the Civic Hall, Connah's Quay I did'nt know what to expect, went into the room to hear some great tune's being played and they never stopped all the time I was there, I won't single out any particular dj as they all played blinding set's (sorry Johnny ), unfortunatly I had to leave at 9.15pm but i'll be back . Was nice to meet up with Pat, Tony/Lisa, Hedley, Marcelle, Debbie, Fingers, Kenny and my good Welsh mate's Ieuan & Harry, great to see you again lad's. Thank's for the cd, I played it on the way down to Bishops Wood and there are some very nice tune's on it . Cheer's for a very enjoyable four and a half hour's of friendly chat and superb music at a great venue. Your Scottish cousin Willie ps, was a wee bit cold in the venue early on, is there a shortage of coal in the valley's . Edited November 2, 2008 by Soulgrit Link to comment

Ficklefingers
Hello, hello !! testing, testing.. 123 - Mary had a little lamb and ate it with mint sauce so everywhere that Mary went.. the lamb went too - of course !! testing, testing, test... AHH !! Connectivity !! NO.. not the Internet - ME BRAIN !! I tell you what... I hope I don't overbook myself TOO often - 'cos I've only JUST recovered today !! Well, recovered enough to put stump to keyboard anyways.. last night was a complete NO HOPER.. didn't even watch any footie on the telly (which I usually do when, ahem.. recuperating from the weekends festivities). All I could manage on Monday was checking my emails.. then BED !! But.. it's ALL worth it !! Never mind.. better late than never I suppose !! Well, what's to say ?? I can defo remember Kenny arriving at mine - told him to be there 1.30 LATEST, and what's he do ?? Turns up at 2.20 !! Just as well, really, as I'd only JUST got out of the bath. Not having arrived home from my previous nights excursion to The Brit in Nottingham until 10.30 that morning. The original intention being to leave after a quick cuppa back at Tracey & Andy's (Brit promoters) then home for about 4am - to then get some much required sleep/rest before readying myself for the Welsh Connection that afternoon. NO CHANCE !! Instead, I had time to sort out records for BOTH venues I was booked at for Saturday (Bishop's Wood 'Niter being my final booking of the weekend), sort some togs - and iron 'em, then before I realised - it was 1pm.. time to shave and jump in the bath for the only relaxation I was gonna get for the next couple of days. I can defo remember stopping somewhere in Connah's Quay - to ask directions to the famed venue.. and also arriving at said venue. Remembering in particular my initial attempt to access a one-way system the WRONG way in my desire to pull up outside the venue's doors, in order to unload the records, before parking. I can also remember the warm welcome received upon entering through the doors. I definitely, also, remember entering the main hall and thinking WOW !! WHAT A VENUE !! I can remember speaking to lot's of wonderful soulies (and a couple of non-soulies, helping on the door..) both inside and outside the venue. The pleasure of meeting some not previously known to me, as well as some I see on a regular basis - and not forgetting the great set of guy's responsible for putting this gig on.. I remember ALL that. I even remember actually being behind the decks and spinning tunes. I remember REALLY enjoying myself, and getting excited at the thought that if this place saw 250 people at a dayer or niter - just HOW good a gig it would be. It certainly has the makings that's for sure !! The venue is absolutely perfect, the floor TRULY AMAZING !! The bar, seating areas, foyer/entrance.. all PERFECT !! I remember all that, too.. The thing is.. I CAN'T remember WHAT I PLAYED !! With another gig straight from Connah's Quay, I somehow managed to completely mix up the discs from both sets - I know there were two or three played at both.. but I am really struggling to remember which was where !! I'll have a bash, anyway.. at least I know (from the mention above) I played a bit of Motown so that gives me a bit of idea but you will have to forgive me if I fail to list them all (or, even, if I include stuff I didn't actually play) - and if you expect them top be in the order of play.. FORGET IT !! All in all.. a brilliant venue put on by some TOP soul peeps with some AWESOME toons amongst them. Music (the time I was there definitely and, reading through the thread, the ENTIRE DAY) was excellent, attendees well up for it and showed tremendous support on the dance floor.. BRILLIANT !! and I wanna do it again.. REAL SOON !! Thanx to Pete & The Boyo's for the invite - hope I get a return one ?? It was a pleasure to be in attendance to witness a fantastic day/evening Fingers.. Pete Griff Thanx for the compliment - but blame the DJ's before me for what I played.. THEY set the tone for the evening. And, fook me.. didn't they DO WELL !! You're dead right though, Pete !! How could I forget THAT disc. Me brain is really shot to pieces after last weekend.. mind you, I blame a particular distraction that COMPLETELY took my mind of things (and has continued to ever since.. ) as opposed to my over indulgence and lack of sleep. I've remembered another spin, too.. So - the playlist continues !! Motown Band FEAT. VELVELETTES 'Really Sayin' Something' (Unissued) Bad Weather Inc. 'I Never never Knew' (Bad Weather) Any other memory joggers out there ?? I reckon there are still another five, or even six, tracks I can't recollect. Didn't you do a video then, Pete ?? Fingers..
