Go Go Children Bristol 1st Birthday Jan 16th

Recommended Posts

A MASSIVE thanx to all who turned out on a wet january night to make our 1st birthday a big sucsess.Especially those who travelled from wales, weston, gloucester and bath.

It may have been cold outside but it was hot and sweaty in the undergroud 100 capacity club with about 80+ people in.

Our doorman Ian Mccree and My Friend Jack kicked the first hour off with some mid tempo soul some almost blues while the early birds got thier first drinks and studied the track list of the second free go go cd.

The rest of the night was split into half hour sets for John Stapleton,My Friend Jack and myself. My freind jack mixed the northern with a few reggae and ska faves,John took over the reggae before going into some latin and back to the soul.I stuck to northern but slipped a few rnb into my first set.

We had a full dancefloor almost allnight until i finished at ten past one with most of the floor singing along to 'walking up a one way street' before shouting for more.Unfortuatnally due to previous noise complaints by neighbours we had to finish there leaving them wanting !

Another top nite at the go go. A soul night with a difference but one that seems to work,if you dont believe us come and give us a look on the 20th feb !!

The Northern scene in general, appears to be turning into one big foray down memory lane, polluted with unimaginitive D.J.'s, (It's the beginning of the end of the scene, if these people get more bookings) So thank God for venues like Go Go Children, and D.J.'s like John and Dean, this is TRULY the future of the scene!! I have no involvement with your venue, so am truly unbiased, but the crowd, the passion, the excitement of the evening elevated it to something special, keep it up - I certainly will be back!!!!!!!!

wow...thanx des, praise indeed !.....trying not to blow my own trumpet, a couple of long time soulies have said this before....and believe me it is appreciated....doin something like this in a soul backwater hasnt always been easy......

it helps that although john, ian and my friend jack have been collectors, soul fans and djs for most of their life....it has been outside of the soul scene so they do not play a tune because dj blah blah plays it,they play tunes because they are good....fullstop...not rare or expensive (although some are)....i on the other hand have come thru the scooter scene and hearing my soulie oldie brother before that so if we get asked for those 'overplayed on the scene trax' while i cant afford the BIGGIES i can normally give them something they can sing a long too !!....we have a good mix

we are all enthusiastic to get on the decks and play our latest buys....playing new tunes in our sets every time.....sometimes its a battle for time on the dex.....and sadly we have to say no to an ever increasing number of djs who want to guest for us....hopefully one day we will have a big enuff venue with longer hours where we can.....in the mean time we will continue where we are, doin what we do.....and with the help of our enthusiastic crowd (if sometimes a little late turning up !)...we will keep enjoying it !

once again many thanx and remember third friday of the month is go go night !
