The recent revival of the label - Walter & The Admirations etc . - was , but Dave Godin's original SC was not , but this depends on your take as what constitutes a " reissue" ........

102 Gene Chandler - Nothing Can Stop Me / The Big Lie

103 Sylvia - I Can't Help It / It's A Good Life

104 Chuck Edwards - Downtown Soulville / I Need You

105 Bessie Banks - Go Now / It Sounds Like My Baby

106 The Valentinos - It's All Over Now / Tired Of Living In The Country

107 - Billy Preston Greezee / Greezee - Part 2

108 Shirley Lawson - The Star / One More Chance

109 The Soul City Executives - Happy Chatter / Falling In Love

110 Thelma Jones - House That Jack Built / Give It To Me Straight

111 The Packers - Hole In The Wall / Go Head On

112 Chris Jackson - I'll Never Forget You / Forever I'll Stay With You

113 Billy Butler - The Right Track / The Boston Monkey

114 Major Lance - The Beat / I'll Want Me Back

115 Mighty Sam - Papa True Love / I Need A Lot Of Loving

116 Chuck Brooks - Black Sheep / I've Got To Get Myself Together

117 The Staple Singers - For What It's Worth / Are You Sure

118 Erma Franklin - Time After Time / won't Wait Too Long

119 Allen Toussaint We The People / Tequila

All releases were between 1968 and 1969 : # 120 was scheduled for release in 1970 , but as stated , was unissued .

...The pedant in me feels compelled to point out that 5 of the 19 actual releases on Dave's SC label had been out on UK labels before (101, 102, 105, 111, 117) so 25% of it was a reissue label! laugh.gif

The more recent releases on the label did throw up a few surprises...how about Johnny Sayles 'Tell Me (Where I Stand)' on the flip of 'I Can't Get Enough...' never before released on vinyl and a stonker of a tune!! Got to be worth a punt surely?

as tony rounce says, some releases had been issued on uk labels b4. but all releases were made a couple of years, in some cases 5 or 6 years b4 they came out in the uk. so looking at it that way it was one of the first reissue labels

I've always been of the opinion this is rarer and more desirable than the BACKBEAT copy so wouldnt doubt the £450 tag.

wouldnt have thought so. i personally have had several soul city copies. only got a backbeat copy at the minute. £200 0n either label

but 2 and half years between release dates. guess which came first :D the big price tag was on JM

Thought that said white malarkey for a minute Dave

Back on topic - Was wondering how scarce the Erma Franklin was as had a copy way back in the 70's & moved it on. Took me the best part of 30 years to find another & the copy I bought was the very same copy I sold in the late 70s.

Also paid less for it than I sold it for.

I was wondering, were Gerry & Paul's The Cat Walk / Little Bit Of Soul likely contenders for a Soul City label release? Only, I was given a cassette tape off Dave Godin and both these tracks were on there, along with Chris Jackson's Since There's No Doubt.
