haven't seen another thread so here goes!!

top night last night at Bidds, with the usual selection of stuff you just don't hear elsewhere (I don't at least). would be unfair to single out any individual dj. my brain is not functioning that well either.

great to chat to so many faces, most familiar, some not. thanks also go to the manager for providing some soap for the toilet (I'm one of those people who has to wash their hands after a pee).

thanks again to mace and everyone else involved!!

Still not with it myself yet, so gonna make this post short & sweet :lol:

Great night again, very healthy numbers, many of whom stayed till the last record.

Usual top mix of quality tunes, some known, and many not.

Atmosphere was brilliant all night.

Thanks to everyone who turned up to support us, especially to Rob & Julie the Canadian Clayheads  , and must make a special mention for Steve & Leslie from South Wales who havn't been anywhere for a good few years and made their return to the scene via Bidds last night.

Big thanks as as always to all the DJs for top sets, Linda for running the door so smoothly, and all the management and staff at Bidds for putting up with us for so long :D

May 23rd is our next date, Karl Heard, Dave Rimmer, Killa & Stu Cheetham take the guest spots...

Regards

Mace

P.S. the toilet heater was back on the wall....things are looking up biggrin.gif

Excellent night!

I love the music policy even though I personally want to be greedy and have more mid to up tempo stuff all night so I can bust my crazzzzeeeeeeeeeeeee moves on the dance floor! :shades:

Hey Misteeeeeeeeer DJ, if I aint dancing change the gear! thumbsup.gif

That said, Bids is serving up some quality dishes that are not readily available at yer local super market!

This is the beauty of Bids, progressive rare soul and long may it reign!

The faces at this venue are a testament to all involved with this hidden little gem of a nighter. shades.gif

Some of the magical touches and sheer attention to detail are astounding, the Wigan Casino toilet replicas are almost identical; if you close your eyes you can almost smell the Casino!

I would have spent more time in there but I got trench foot. :boxing:

Bids is deffo on my calendar, great people, great music, great laughs! :(

That was for The Cogster thumbup.gif

Do you want an Ascot 715 or 818.............also has it got to be balanced flue or conventional flue. Both John Manship and i were gas fitters and after a lengthy discussion on Friday i think John will have a few on his auctions next week

Quote for the evening, said by the manager of Bids:

"Great night but some of them where dancing to records that weren't being played!"

 Nice one Simon. Yeah What a night. Had a great time. Music was excellent, record of the night for me was the Des Parker Judy Street c/u ohmy.gif think thats what he said when i jumped up on stage to find out.

Belated 50th to my old mate Dusty, good to see you. Even managed to stay out of those devilish record dealers hands. Result in itself. tongue.gif But for me the highlight of the night was spending time with as Mace said the Canadian clayheads . Rob & Julie Copeland. They travelled from Calgary to help me celebrate my 50th, then we done Winsford and Sat Bidds, they return back to Canada Wed morn and i would just like to wish them a safe and good flight back. See you both soon my friends

I must, firstly, give a massive Thank You !! to Great Geezer (and sooo funny..) Mace and the Bidds team.. for allowing me to 'Pop' my Bidds DJ cherry. I really appreciate your confidence in me (Okay.. but I DON'T care - bribery DOES work !!)

:D

:shades:

I can hardly believe it's Tuesday, and it doesn't feel like it was (already..'Last') Saturday that we were all celebrating the excellent Bidds 3rd Anniversary 'Party' 'Niter - feels more like only a few hours ago !! That probably reflects just how much of a thoroughly enjoyable time I had. Although I really don't know where all that time went. But.. That, in-itself, is always a sign of a 'Good' night in my book - when, before you even realise - it's 'home time' !! Initial feeling was one of disappointment - thinking I'd been robbed of a good HALF of the entire night - 'Somebody must of nicked it off me' I thought... So was wishing the duration of the 'Show' had been 15 hours, instead of the 10 it actually was (which, to me, only felt like 3½). Ah well.. "All good things have to come to an end.." it's said.

Even though me and Dusty (my travelling partner to this gig - once I'd collected him en-route) arrived shortly after the 9pm opening - and with my time behind the decks not due to commence until 12.45am - I should've had oodles of time to return outside to my car and begin my post journey 'chill out' (with the able assistance of my customary partaking of some - 'Natural.. Herbal' remedy). And would be back in the venue, and ready to settle in for the night, all by 10pm LATEST.

Dunno what happened to it all !! In what seemed like 'No Time' - and STILL not yet having taken the aforementioned 'medication' - it was just a few minutes off 12.45 !! so I just headed up on to the Music Management Podium to position my boxes in readiness for 'Popping' that Cherry.

Nah.. Sod that I thought, and told Mace I was off outside instead, for a quick fag, even though he was about to spin his last tune of his first set. I could hear him, on the microphone, telling 'em I was coming on - just as I was walking out the door.

With that ciggie (very hastily smoked) having to sustain me for the next hour - I knew, afterwards.. I could THEN totally relax, & play 'catch-up' on where I should already have been.

Within a couple of minutes my first disc was patiently waiting it's turn on the allotted deck, as I happily informed the attendees they had ME to put up with for the next 60 mins !! And.. 'WE'RE OFF' !! as the first notes of my sermon for tonight (in the guise of my Marvin Gaye acetate) quickly filtered out through the sound system and into the eager waiting ears (and feet..) of the assembled congregation.

Instantly, I completely went in to my 'DJ mode', and very quickly became absorbed in trying to ensure I delivered the right sort of message(s). And in the 'correct fashion', too. Didn't want to go 'confusing' folk by 'jumbling up' the many 'individual cogs' that, all together, would (ultimately) 'Turn the Wheel' that would result in successful execution of my 'Disciple's Duties' for this particular 'Service'. I mean.. What sort of Soul Music disciple would I be if I succeeded (only) in ruining the expected (and well deserved) enjoyment of the assembled throng's faith - by presenting the main points of the sermon in completely the wrong order. Meaning there would be just NO WAY anybody would be able to understand what I had offered up 'cos it wouldn't make any sense to anyone !! Am I making any sense ??

It only seemed that 15 minutes had passed when it was time for ME to announce my last selection before handing over the honours to (a tired, yes - but at least still sober at that point..) Johnny Weston !!

And then, just five minutes later, it had all finished and we were all heading out the doors !!

I know I enjoyed a brilliant night. I know (also) that I had many different conversations.. and know they were with very many different (but ALL great) Soulie-type-peeps. I know, too, that I'd spun a few tunes on the turntables. I knew I'd really enjoyed my decking experience at Bidds, and hope I'm fortunate to return again at some future date. But FOOK knows where all that time went !! :D

I blame that box of sales I took with me. Remembering WHY I didn't like having to 'baby sit' a box of 45's and all that goes with what's involved when selling records at a venue. I don't get to enjoy the time where I'm NOT able to just roam around the place and socialise willy-nilly. Missing, too, a lot of what records get played across the evening - due to the distractions of having to concentrate on the record selling aspect. I'd much rather enjoy that time to the full - and instead - overdose on all those other joyous aspects to be found within the frame of an all-nighter. The chattin' with lot's of lovely peeps, the total immersing of myself in tunes that especially appeal to me when I hear them - which, at Bidds, is each and every time !! I miss ALL that when I have to take sales boxes out.. But, needs must, so there !!

Hopefully the following list is in the actual order of play, but I'm not apologising if it ain't !! Heartfelt thanks to the (majority) dancers (and others) that gave me kind words, and enjoyed dancing (or, just listening) to the contents of my set, which was from 12.45 - 1.45am and I DO apologise to those who's requests I just didn't have the time to squeeze in. Sorry !!

Far, far too many people I could mention - so I won't bother !! But do look forward to our paths crossing again very soon. Next week ??

Nothing to add really, except another vote for this cool night.

Best Bidds I've been to for a while, loads there, buzzing all the way through, and some brilliant music, Des particularly for me that night.

Ditto. But missed Des's spot, as i'd had a heavy week. Which was a disappointment really after good sets from Mr Weston and Fingers. And the excellent Mr Dyson. Ably supported by Mace and Beggsy, in their own style. Turning out to be pretty consistent musically. Also nice to meet ImberBoy, and some other soulies from my locality. And i thought those who wanted something a little different were a dying breed?
