Blake H
I'd like to echo the comments and thanks already expressed so far, Nicky and I had a fantastic time from arriving at Stanstead (thanks to Paul & Sonia Stead for the lift btw) and meeting friends old and new and having a catch up drink, (note to self, go to loo before boarding aircraft eh Steve ) The meet and greet at Bilbao airport was a nice touch also. The 4* Ercilla Hotel was bang in the center of the city and very pleasant indeed and Sean Evans' Thursday session at the Bullitt Club set us up for a great weekend. Sightseeing and drinking took up most of Friday till 11PM when the night got started, with Bob,Gavin and Steve alternating with Alex, Aitor and (??? slipped my mind) but a great night was had by all in the 70s styled club situated right in the hotel. Some great tunes played, a real pot pori of all things soulful. A massive selection of superb food faced us for the breakfast (sorry Mark no greasy spoon fry up though ) More shopping/sightseeing on Saturday (btw ladies there are some great shops in Bilbao ) First Mistake for me was to get one of the goldfish bowl size G&T's from the bar swiftly followed by another this ensured I crashed at about 3:AM in a drunken stupor and suffered all day Sunday For the collectors several boxes of albums/12" and a few 45s Bilbao is a lovely city and nothing like I expected at all and we were both very impressed. We did notice you can smoke in the clubs and bars and I guess we've got use to smoke free venues but it was great for the smokers among us All in all a great weekend, we'll defiantly be back Thanks again Blake & Nicky Link to comment

Steve Plumb
Sorry for the late reply............only just recovered from what was a superb weekend in Bilbao (well it was 5 days in all for us!). Here's a few quick thoughts.... Last year was great BUT this year was just fantastic!!! The change of venue & hotel worked a treat! Having them both at the same place in the middle of the City was great! The club itself was just right with plenty of dancing space and plenty of chilling space too! Loads more Brits came this year along with a good crowd from all over Spain and with so many characters, Soul4Real meets SoulEssence was never dull (possibly the understatement of the year!). Laughing, smiling, drinking, eating & dancing with friends old and new was the order of the day and the beauty of just having the music at night means that you have time to discover Bilbao during the day. It's a lovely city with loads of great architecture plus loads of shops & bars too! The 'pintxos pi** up' (or 'tapas trawl') is 100% recommended! The weather was also good too which made strolling round the city even more pleasurable. Massive thanks go out to Alex & Aitor for organising it at their end plus thanks to the 'Yarmouth Two' Bob & Gavin for asking me to join them again and a shout for Miguel who made up the six of us DJ's as we managed to play a whole spectrum of Soul Music from all genres all weekend...........not forgetting of course the warm up gig at a local bar on Thursday night where Shaun Evans played a blinder too! Thanks also to friends old and new for a cracking few days that will live long in the memory! Finally, I've managed to scribble together the records I think I played over the two nights, so here they are- Steve Plumb's Playlist: Friday Night (4.30am - 5.45am) Mario Bionde - This is what you are Jon Lucien - Listen love Mary J Blige - Magic Family of Eve - Please be truthful Dells - Your song Mary Gresham - I'll never let you walk alone Sy Hightower - I know your leaving me Melvin Moore - All of a sudden Soul Bros Inc - Pyramid Jazz Invaders - Love & happiness Bobby Womack - Across 110th St Willie Hutch - Brothers gonna work it out Little Beaver - She's gone Shirley Lawson - One more chance Spiedels - Dream girl San Fransiscan TKO's - Make up your mind Edwin Starr - Running back & forth Invitations - Look on the good side Ultimates - Girl i've been trying to tell you Jeanne Tracey - Making new friends Bobby Hutton - Lend a hand (Valentines Request #1) Willie Hutch - When a boy falls in love (Valentines Request #2) Sam Fletcher - I'd think it over twice (Final record of the night) Saturday Night (12.30am - 1.30am) Neo - Smile Mary J Blige - Magic (again!) Nina Simone - Take care of business (pilooski edit) Janet Lawson - Dindi David Ruffin - Walk away from love T J Williams - Baby i need you Pat & The Blenders - Just because Bobby Sheen - She hit me from the blind side (unrel) Stevens & Foster - I want to be loved Judy Freeman - Hold on Masai/Believers - Across the tracks Wornell Jones - Must have been love Brief Encounter - Human Mongo Santamaria - We got Latin Soul Richard Caiton - I'd like to get near you Topics - Booking up baby Darrell Banks - I'm the one who loves you Street People - Baby you got it Clydene Jackson - I need your love Cheers Steve Link to comment

Guest netty
It was a fantastic extended weekend, I can't believe it was over a week ago we were there! IF they don't let us back it will be the 'many complaints' about the noise from 6027/8.....(Mr Plumb) All the photos show how well the event was attended and the play lists prove the diversity of the music heard. I can see it now ...........the Raynescourt cutting the rolls in half and putting them on the bar 'a la Bilbao' with some cheese and pineapple on sticks...........very continental...it will almost be like being there!xx Annette Sorry for the late reply............only just recovered from what was a superb weekend in Bilbao (well it was 5 days in all for us!).
