Guest Dani Herranz Posted March 23, 2009 Share Posted March 23, 2009 Albert Petit and me want to thank everyone attending to the allnighter, we hope you had a great time, thanks to Chris dalton, Ana Vila and Jose Mardigras for playing at the friday welcome soul night, and Laurent, Jaume de Angel and Marcello J for doing as well a fantastic work at the Warmup As for the allnighter, Andy Dyson, Ady Pountain and Barbara Grassi played GREAT!!!, the dancefloor was packed ALL night (and that was from the first 30 minutes to the very end at 7 AM!!!!)...we´ll try to inform on some playlists The dance competition was won by Elena reservoir (Barcelona/Valencia) and second was a British guy (sorry we missed your name mate!!!)... The record of the night was probably the Betty Wright´s cover of Open the door to your heart, played by Barbara Grasi from the Italian 45....amazing!!! Here you have our classic picture at the end of the nighter, shame everybody didn´t join to do it (you shy people!!! ), ´cause by that time the venue was still full, dancing to Walk with a winner...what a moment!! Nice cheap flights over, good quality hotel at a good rate, great food and drink all weekend, lovely old town of Valencia to stroll around, bit of sunshine a cracking nighter and picked up some tunes at a backstreet record shop at the same time - who could ask for more? Really enjoyed the night itself (although once again I misjudged the shear volume of alcohol in a Spanish measure and crashed and burned some time around 4.30am). Good venue with plenty of bar room (didnt have to wait to be served a drink all night), I thought all the DJ's did excellent spots keeping the dancefloor busy with a good variation of tunes. Consensus amongst the 9 of us was that the lady DJ's took top honours. Nice to see so many young Spanish people obviously well into the music. Apologies to Dani that I didnt get chance to chat (too caught up in my own little world), but nice to see Maria and Arthur again. All-in-all I would highly recommend the hotel, Valencia and above all the night itself - well done to Dani and Albert and the other DJ's, very well worth a visit. Thanks for a great weekend. In my opinion, the Big Thing and Soul Nights are one of the best nighter ever! So its to be worth for coming from outside spain. I hope for the next time, you could organize a band again for the soul night at Sala El Loco and a soul lunch too. Maria O Posted March 25, 2009 Share Posted March 25, 2009 I haven't had a decent night of sleep over the last month and arrived on fast forward, but have been fast asleep by 9pm each night since back from Valencia on Sunday. What a wonderful cure! I'm really pleased that I booked us on this weekend away again ...I HAVEN'T DANCED SO MUCH IN AGES!!! Love the music, enthusiasm and vibe at these nights - lovely to see familiar smiling faces again. Heard records I'd almost forgotten about too - and they sounded so fresh again! Many thanks to Dani & Albert for organising this event. Special thanks to Dani for helping us find our way to good local food, his company and the cure-all "Agua de Valencia" (Valencian Water) again. Thanks to the stars & their entourage who allowed us to tag along, especially Barbara ...who may never recover from her 3-day experience with the English lot + token Aussie . m Link to comment

Dave Moore Posted March 25, 2009 Share Posted March 25, 2009 Been a little under the weather since we got back from Chicago but glad I made the effort to get to Valencia once again. Apologies to anyone I coughed and spluttered around! Enjoyed both nights. Few highlights: Meeting Barbara at long last and listening to her first set. N...i..c..e. Lady has taste. Ady dropping the Abtone Acetate of "My Hearts Wide Open" . (Had to go peek at this!) and then playing "Shake Off That Dream", my favourite Eddie Billups track. Mr Dyson mixing it up with some nice 45s of all tempos and especially playing The Magnetics. Memories of Prestatyn the week before. Danni playing Lou Ragland - "Since You Said You'd Be Mine", great 70s that you never hear nowadays. All in all, another great weekend. Great music played by people with a great enthusiasm, Back in Oct for Ginger, Greety, Dave Fergie and Nige Brown. See ya'll then (If not before!). Link to comment

What a crowd and what a pleasure to play for them. The video clips are good but at times the atmosphere was spine tingling, especially when Barbara played She's Gone, I'll Come Running Back and Open The Door to Your Heart, she just took it up a level, fantastic!
