What's The Best Line In A Record?

Love the lyrics to Mixed-up Girl by Thelma Houston from the 1969 Sunflower lp

"Gonna set you free my angel though I can make you stay

could've used my blind self-pity and thrown it in your way, but the tide has turned between us

and you'll never see the light, but it makes no bit of difference who is wrong or who is right"

Just about every line from "Cashin' In"

however modified for Soul-Sourcers I choose this one

"When I found you had opened my record box, that was the last straw, I can't take it no more"

Rob

...Writing all the bad cheques you can't cover, but slow down cos the money's gittin tight!

oh and...

"...I had my eyes wide open from the start, and girl you never lied to me and the part they'll never never see is the part that you showed me... its the part that you showed me..." Four Tops - Do What You Gotta Do. Tho' would it have sounded the same without Levi's glorious vocals...?

Possible contender for best song title "Ain't Gonna Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman) - Joe Tex

TOO LATE- WILLIAMS AND WATSON. top tune, you beat me to that one, my favourite bit is

"dont need know woman to help me starve to death-"

Better with it all.

..."Anyway, I can live cheaper by myself, dont need no woman to help me starve to death"...

Not lovey dovey.. does just what it says on the tin... its pure class but please dont tell the wife!!

Yep this is a brill thread, hope it goes on for ages. There are loads of brilliant lines to be used

She was so beautiful, like flowers full bloom in May

Her kiss was like the roaring wind, it left me speachless, nothing to say...

I loved and I lost

It always gets me - to think if someone wrote that about me how chuffed I would feel. Fabulous.

(I hope I got the lyrics right as it wouldn't be the first time I was singing the wrong words!)

" I wanna cry cos i know you don't love me". - Epitome of Sound.

"I walk the streets most day and night, but your love for me is still out of (not in ?)sight" - Tomangoes.

"Each time i see you baby,i keep trying to see,an indication in your eyes, that you'll come back to me" - Ernie & Ed.

Could have chosen any line from the 3 above.

If you listen to "Mr Soul Satisfaction" by the legend that is Mr Timmy Willis, is what we ever wanted to be to the girls,in fact he's so bad he should've been born twins,

Good god y'all.

Another $2 room that's never seen a broom,

A neon sign reflecting on my ceiling

In all my days I can't recall ever having such a lonely feeling

But I can't stop now got to find her somehow....

Got a crumpled dollar bill to buy myself a meal

I haven't had a bite all afternoon

So I'll direct my feet down some lonely street

'till I find myself the cheapest greasy spoon

"Born under a bad sign"...William Bell/ Albert King

If it wasn't for bad luck, I've had no luck at all

quite like Wilson Pickett's " my name is known in old Hong Kong, I'm just as famous as Egg Foo Yung, I'm a legend in my own time"...International Playboy

An actor's life is not for me, but I play the part so well,

though my heart is broken down inside, no one can ever tell,

they look at me, but they don't see this sad but lonely clown (now baby),

if they took a closer look, they'd see the smile was upside down,

if they could turn me over, their gonna see,

there's really two sides of me,

and I hurt all on the other side.........

Sheer poetry!

Ian D

Written by Sidney Barnes and co help (JJ Jackson?), my favourite record ever, and it also promoted the next stage, ie from Torch to Casino, it was the missing link between the two that kept the scene moving forward (imo).

Wonder what records do that nowadays, food for thought perhaps.

Regards Bob

Loved this tune when I first heard around 73/4 and still do. That's a testament of time methinks

I'm walking down this lonely avenue, a picture of your face keeps coming through I know I won't forget what I did today. I got up and walked away

Great choice Steve. I've must have heard this song a thousand times, but every now and again it still has the power to bring tears to my eyes.

Wrote to perfection from start to finish,

(A man aint born to life, just to die one day, just to turn to dust & be blown away,

Don`t let the world beat you, Don't throw down your hopes & run,

for no matter how grey the sky is today you had your place in the sun,

A man`s much more than a grain of sand,)
