What Was That Again?

Simsy

Recommended Posts

On the way in this morning I was listening to Ruby Andrews - Just loving you and she definitely does sing "such a tit head" towards the end of the song, no question. In Cookie Jackson's - Do you still love me, she does say "Ian Sims" during the song. And my mate thinks that Lonzine Cannon number is all about drugs as he says "you call me and asked me for an eighth".

All right that last one was a joke, but there are some unfathomable lyrics that have taken years to work out what they are singing about and some I'm still not sure about. Here's a couple that were unwrapped years ago, but it took years to figure them out ... "look before you leap and count, count your blessings instead of sheep". Another was, "Give up you silly fool give up, that's what my friends tell me to do.

If anyone knows what the Cairo's were on about; "every day when she walks by, I give her my biggest smile, but it's always in vain and I see it ????"

Are there any soul songs you know with strange indecipherable lyrics? Or are there any we can help you with maybe?

for years thought the admirations/aspirations 'you left me' was singing 'two left feet' which is doubly bizarre as there's a big clue in the title

Betty O'Brien - She'll Be Gone... sounds like she's singing "you're a cat, ooh you're a bat". Apparently it's something like "you're a cad, ooh you're bad" which makes more sense I suppose whistling.gif

On "Hand It Over" by Chuck Jackson, he's heard to say "I need a crap"!

In the first verse of "On The Stage of Love" by Ronnie & Joyce, mention is given to Bruce Forsyth.

There's also a track called "Get Off My Back" (not Marvin Sims), by a male/female duet whose name escapes me, and I swear the lyrics are "Get off of my back, and leave my penis alone"!

Eddie Holland - "If It's Love It's Alright" hears him say "I've got a funny feeling from my head down, tomatoes"

In Otis & Carla's Tramp there's a line where she says "Otis, you're a country". My mate edited this to make it sound like Carla was being very abusive to Otis. It was hilarious. whistling.gifwhistling.gif

Did that with "Black Hills of Dakota" by Doris Day - quite easy, as she pauses between syllables!

As far as I know Keni Lewis is still alive? His email isn't bouncing back anyway so I've emailed him to ask if he can let us know the words. Dunno why never thought to do this before as they are very hard to decipher. Have been listening for half an hour! Think Rachel is right, he's 'praying' not 'fretting'.

Doubt very much if Keni will remember them or, if he does, be bothered to come back but if he does i'll post his reply up.

cheers

"Every day that she walks by, I give her my biggest smile, but it's always in pain and I sit here praying again"

Surprising how a can of 'wife beater' clarifies things!!!

That's it! That's definitely it! Well done Simon  , your 'wife beater' more effective than my erb

Gee wizz, you're acting like a kid, all this long, it's no joke, I'm crazy about you...

link

This is revolutionary! Seriously! I said earlier about 15 years of not knowing, but thinking about it, it's probably more than 20.

Will have to cross reference latest findings  You know we'll (You) have to post the full lyrics  That'd be awesome

Hey girl are you blind, can't you read between the lines, stop over stop over stop, stop overlooking me looking me, stop over stop over stop, stop overlooking me looking me.

Every day that she walks by, I give her my biggest smile, but it's always in pain and I sit here praying again. Hey girl are you blind, can't you read between the lines, stop over stop over stop, stop overlooking me looking me, stop over stop over stop, stop overlooking me looking me. I love you, I need you, honest I do. So stop overlooking me, looking me, so stop overlooking me, looking me.

Gee wizz, you're acting like a kid, all this long, it's no joke. I'm crazy about you, crazy crazy, now I can't live without you, I can't live without you.

Hey girl are you blind, can't you read between the lines, stop over stop over stop, stop overlooking me looking me, stop over stop over stop, stop overlooking me looking me. Stop over stop over stop, stop overlooking me looking me, stop over stop over stop, stop overlooking me looking me.

And your specialist subject it is ‘Shrine Lyrics’

Your starter for ten is:

You heard rumours of a secret admirer

You received letters filled with strong desire

Now the mail you received from an anonymous sender, begging surrender

Well I know what it said, it said roses are red

Now can you ……………

Well done again Simon. I hereby pronounce you the lyrical soul doctor.

There are many other tracks that are equally unfathomable. Think this thread may run for a while yet.

Bobbi Smith got discussed a while back - Walk on into my heart.

Bit where it sounds like she sings "hey baby won't you take a hand in a lonely man lo-one-lee man". All a bit confusing as she is a woman!

Have searched for this topic, but was unable to find it. Don't think it was resolved though, no one knew. ranting_1.gif

Nah, if you listen carefully Weller is definately singing...

'Eating trifles, eating trifles'

Think the skinny f*cker would put some weight on eating all them trifles though....... ranting_1.gif

Need to give a listen to make sense of it. Maybe posting a link might help. ranting_1.gif

Had a problem with Dean Parrish's "Bricks, Bottles and Sticks" last night; couldn't get it out of my head that, in the last verse, our Dean sings :-

"A big construction sign where my house used to stand,

Soon they'll be mixing semen/B], water and sand" ranting_1.gif

Couldn't help thinking that, with construction techniques like this, it's very likely that Dean would still find the site derelict in 2005!

jonny jones and the king casuals (and hendrix of course) seem to be singing 'excuse me, while i kiss this guy' in purple haze.

seems unusually polite but i suppose it was the 60s.
