Certainly wasn't bootlegged in the 70's, if the boot is missing something probably because they didnt have real copy to copy from,my copy came from the only known hit on this record back in the mid 90's, 6-10 copies all unplayed from a San Francisco record shop

Add in the two Edna McGriff ~ Been Hearing About You acetates…
And I think, Darrell banks - knocking at your door? There are a few of those all different cuts of the same song, Richard Searling has one for sure.
different version of Ann Haywood on Hondo, and he used to spin a real fast track at the 100 club, with a kinda Latin break, can’t remember the name, it’s on Jet Set records…

Ah right, thought Kitch had multiple copies at one time but may have been mistaken.
Remember reading about someone stumbling across a copy in the States at a record fair or sim. Unsure of condition, but think that copy went to auction?
That may have been the copy that Shifty got.

12266 is the mastering number and can be found in the run-out grooves on the so called "470" release as well.
Indeed, that was my point the mastering number is also the date it was done.

With regarding dating Despenza releases, I always thought the number "12266" was the biggest clue, December 2nd 1966, a fair few labels /pressing plants where there isnt a defined label number use the mastering date as a reference, also I think its hard to date by label layout or typeface alone, as individual plants had stock layouts they might use for many years.

There were two groups called Blue Magic, the "Can I say I love you" which you duly played, think, not 100% though, they were a West Coast group, then there was the Philly group, who were quite prolific output wise, serving up typical for the era (early 70s) and area (Philadelphia) Sweet Soul ballads
Kev
Yes I was sure they were a one off group on the label, the Other group are unrelated

He flogged me an original acetate of that (I thought some of his acetates were dubious). Is the flip the same do you know- and is this the same as the Sutter apart from the title?
I got the Pentagons off Koppel back in the 80’s and had it c/u as Soul Shakers , think had Anglo had a few copies, remember being made aware of the Corduroys copy by Dave Flynn some years later
