Terrible news, so sad. Thoughts go out to the family. Known Joe since the mid 90's. R.I.P.

Thanks for the great offer Dave but sometimes unable to get out due to stomach related problems. I do have a car and can still drive but it's just the health issues letting me down. Are you in Sheffield and have we ever met? supposed to be doing a spot for Fat Piggy at the Embassy Feb 8th if I'm ok. ATB.

Hiya Dave, a friend's just told me about this post so I thought I'd reply to it. I ran the soul nights from Dec 1999 to May 2014. It was in the same building as the original KGB but a couple of rooms along from the original ballroom in a much smaller, cellar-like bar but it created a great atmosphere. A new management team came in alongside a new owner of the building and didn't want us anymore. Unfortunately over the last year or so my health issues have got a lot worse and don't get out much now as I want to. Don't get on soul source much either. As for the original KGB, I only remember going once, in 1982, must have been just before it shut. I've heard lots of stories about the original nights, seen lots of flyers and know a lot of pele who went. Wasn't aware of any live acts but looks like from a previous post, Tommy Hunt appeared there but then again where hasn't he appeared, LOL. Saw him at Dial House in Sheffield about 1980 but that's another story. Sorry couldn't be more of a help to you but glad you got the name in the end, all the best, Barry, KTF.

    Stirrin' Up Some Soul

Looking forward to saturday and belting some top northern soul sounds out. Promoters have done a great job organising some great bar deals for you. Bring your drinking heads and your dancing shoes for a great night (don't get them mixed up please. LOL.). See you all saturday. KTF.

Sorry for late reply, apart from being worn out after the last night, I've had a few hospital appointments and just taking things steady for a while. Not looking for anything myself just yet but will be doing guest spots for other people. A friend is starting up a do at the O2 Academy, which I've been asked to do the first one alongside Mopsey, Nigel Filmer and Bob H. By the time you get this message I'm sure you will have heard about it. It's onJune 14th. I'm also doing a guest spot at Killamarsh, July 5th I think. So a few to be going on with but really having to take things easy. ATB. KTF.

Thanks for all great comments guys. It's been my pleasure to have run this event for over 14 years and met so many friends who have become more than friends and more like family, soul family. It looks like being absolutely rammed, so be early and we will go out on a real high. At least we are finishing at the top and not because of falling attendances because the regular KGB 'ers are so loyal. See you all later, just off to set up for the last time. KTF.

    KAY GEE BEE

Thanks for another well written summary of the night, it's like I was there all along, LOL. Thanks to all the well wishers and after a two week stay at the all-inclusive NGH I'm feeling much better now thanks. Thanks to Nigel and Bob for making sure my arrangements went to plan on the night and looks like you both did a cracking job, thanks again. Unfortunately as the rumours went round on saturday, the rumours are now fact, and the next KGB will be the last one. Everything has now been sorted, so look out for details on S.S. and F/B. See you all very soon, Barry, KGB, KTF.

KAY GEE BEE ++END OF AN ERA++

I didn't think I'd be posting this event for a long time, but unfortunately this will be the last Kay Gee Bee soul night at the Bar Abbey. A new management team are taking over the downstairs, Bar Abbey and Snooker Club, for reasons only known to them all future events are now going to be cancelled. Obviously everyone is gutted about this, myself and Ann, Andy and his team, who are the current managers and who have worked wonders into turning it into a fantastic live music venue for local bands, as well as letting us carry on the KGB soul nights, and not forgetting all the KGB regulars who have supported myself and Ann for all those years, everyone of you mean so much to us and we couldn't have done it without you. Also a massive thanks to all the D.J.'s that have done spots for me and of course, think of all the local D.J.'s who started off D.J.'ing down those stairs. The very first night was a free entry and I'm doing the same for the last, but people will be asked to donate to a local charity, yet to be decided. As from day one this night was done for the love of the music and you, the great people that are northern soulies. Also I've decided to open the room next door and have the Horti' crew plus Andy Jones play some rare and underplayed tunes, some of my favourites will get played I'm sure of that. See you all on the night, Barry and Ann, KGB, KTF.

    KAY GEE BEE

First of all ladies and gents, apologies for a late post but as you all know I was taken back in to hospital at half 6 the next morning after the KGB night. Unfortunately since my discharge from hospital my dad has also been in for a second time and my sister has been in I.C.U. So you can imagine it's not been a great time for us all. Back to the night and thanks for all the great feedback chaps, yes another top, atmospheric down those stairs and a massive thanks to all the KGB'ers for their loyal support. Was going to mention an early, debut spot from Darren Deeley, playing some great tunes of across the board northern soul. Thanks Darren, and a great guy also.Another debut spot from Grahame went down really well. Top northern soul sounds all the way and welcome back to do a spot any time, well done. Of course "Ace" doing his normal classic northern spot along with all the banter, and myself doing the last spot, which nearly finished me off as well as the night, (LOL). (Note to oneself.....play Lulu next time, thanks Russ, your input is second to none and also your writing skills hit the nail on the head everytime, thanks again.) Thanks to Lauren for sitting on the door again, extremely friendly bar staff and a massive thanks to Pete, Gina, Michelle and Russ for the help at the end of the night. See you all at the next one, thanks again for everyone's support and concern for my health, Barry, KGB, KTF.

Looking forward to another great night of northern soul down those stairs. My old mate Ace coming down to do a spot like only he can, not 'arf mate, and a first time spot for Grahame Johnson who's been coming to see us for a bit now and promises to do a top spot of northern classics with some RnB thrown in as well. Look forward to it Grahame. See you all on the night for another atmospheric KGB night. Barry, KGB, KTF.

    KAY GEE BEE

Many thanks to all the KGB regulars and everyone who travelled to the KGB last saturday, even more so because of the terrible weather conditions. Also with it being a month where it's the first friday and second saturday there were lots of events on locally over the weekend. A massive thanks to guest D.J.'s Mick2Dinners and Dave Glover for an excellent 2 hour spot between them. Classic northern all the way, top stuff lads. That's why Junction 36 is packed every month. Thanks also to Lauren, (the managers daughter) for helping out on the door. It was her first night with us and she did a great job. Everyone made her welcome as all soulies always do. She really enjoyed the night and we hope to see her back again very soon, thanks again. Numbers were down on what we normally get but every now and then we get a group of young and upcoming, soulies of the future, I think. Very polite, really enjoy the music, a couple of good dancers among them and they NEVER dance with their drinks, bonus. Great to see you enjoying northern soul and boosted the crowd to what we normally get. Thanks to the manager, Andy, for his help in putting this night on and thanks to the bar staff and everyone who volunteer their help at the end of the night to put stuff away, you are all great friends. Looking forward to next month allready, see you all out and about somewhere soon, Barry, KGB, KTF.
