Dean Parrish - Bricks Broken Bottles & Sticks
It's available on a Kent 7" for £5. Better sound quality than the original too. Ady

INSTRUMENTAL - NAME?
Is it that backing track to Marva Lee (sounds a bit like Wizzard's Sleeve if you're actually wizzarding yourself) 'If You Can't Be True'. That's an acetate he paid a few bob for off JA-SB. It is heavy on the gorgonzola organ too. I'm sure the tanned one will fill us in when he returns from the Sierra Madre or wherever it is he's gone to. Ady

Paul Weller
If it's as bad as his version of The Bottle, he should get Rick and Bruce back and do a couple of Alarm numbers.

Dancing Comps
Give Dave the vet's drugs, his coat's dull and his nose could be wetter. I would only push a girl over in the most extreme circumstances, so it must have been in the later rounds. Ady PS You've got your usual Sun afto slot so bring yer box.

Dancing Comps
Well we've got even worse for you this year but it won't involve dancing. I'll see you at Ruggers tonight and we can work on some moves. Ady

Dancing
And of course there's the time Paul Weller was round my flat in Langham Street buying the latest Northern repros and asked my girlfriend Rose to teach him how to dance Northern. After being shocked and embarassed she got him to try out a few basic steps and quickly suggested he should concentrate on singing. Ady

Dancing Comps
Well it gives a bit of a focus to the Friday night at Cleethorpes and only lasts for 3 records. There's been at least one bird winner and several notable placings. I usually get criticised for being a perv if I do pick a girl anyway! Nobody seems to mind the DJs making c***s of themselves so I don't see why you lot shouldn't do the same. A-D

Tony can't remember that one, I'm sure Mick Smith does. It doesn't sound like Levine, he wasn't noted for his sense of humour. Tony says there's an apocryphal story about Ivor Jones being given a Black & Decker sanding disc to spin at Thorne and actually doing it, but no-one including Ivor can remember the details. Ady

Me Me Me on the radio
Not that anyone gives a damn, but I played Diplomats 'Perfect Love', Billy Wisdom 'Handwriting On The Wall' and the Triumphs 'Coming To Your Rescue'. Craig was well refreshed. And Cinders did make it to the ball which was good apart from a quagmire of a dancefloor. But after 4 nights one the razz, I was in no great shape either. Airwaves Ady

I've just popped next door to grill Tony Rounce on said subject and he denies Monkey Spanner but remembers playing a 78 of Arthur Smith 'Guitar Boogie Shuffle' which was of course the original of the Bert Weedon smash. Bert was one of the early 6TS icons along with Woofer and Ian Ric Tic Popple. It shows how long ago it was that the decks had a 78 speed, though the amount some DJs "enhance" a slow record nowadays must be almost up to 78 rpm. Tony remembers being at the Mecca the night Les Cockell and Tony Jebb got Levine to play 'Is This The Way To Amarillo' by Tony Christie. Ady

Anyone got any spectacular, funny or embarassing snaps they could lend me to stick in this years programme? Ideally from last year. Ady

Me Me Me on the radio
Well Cinders get a move on and we'll see you down the Rocket. I'm sure the dress code will be relaxed for the Sunday nighter otherwise me and most of the DJs will be locked out. I'll get it verified by Rob. If the worst comes to the worst, Jo Wallace and I will blag it in as Terence Stamp and Julie Christie. Ady

Me Me Me on the radio
Apparently I'm on the Craig Charles Funk Show on Friday 9-9.30 ish on BBC Radio 6. He's meant to be rather loose in the way that Cleggy is at the 100 Club. I'll just be plugging new Kent stuff so don't get excited but it might be worth a listen before y'all venture down the Dome or some other soul hole. Ady

Betty Davis
Anyone got a contact for anyone connected to the lass who sang He Was A Big Freak and Stepping In Her I Miller Shoes? She was on Island and Just Sunshine, there's a girl wanting to do a documentary on her. Ady

Sequins
Does anyone know if the Sequins on Gold Star/Crajon were the same as the ones on Renfro? The Soul Harmony book says not but it does say the Renfro ones were the same as the ones on Detroit Sound. Which means the ones in the In Crowd are the wrong ones! Ady

UUUMMMMMMMM??????
Aktcherly it's the fey non soul approach of both Spearmint and Johnny Boy that makes them so groovy. There's no point in a couple of English wimps trying to out-soul sing the US originals. What would you know Smith, you Perry Como clothes horse. A-D

UUUMMMMMMMM??????
Talking of mixes there's a great new one based on Cigarette Ashes by Johnny Boy called The Generation That Bought More Soul. I think it's brilliant (I also loved Spearmint's Sweeping The Nation which used Out On The Floor) but a fellow list member wasn't too impressed. Ady

Sequins
Before vinyl I used to collect cigarette cards (and newts). Incidentally I just read that our (LCFC) 60s/70s wizzard of the wing, Lenny Glover (who may have been Charlton previously I know it was a London club), just got three and a half years for part of a big dope smuggling operation. Graham Cross also did time after embezzling his own Post Office and one of that eras players was shagged by Joe Orton on the eve of a cup final. That makes Messrs Dickov, Gillespie and Sinclair look pretty tame. Up the City Ady PS Apologies to footy haters but there is a sexual reference to liven it up.
