Depends who is on doesn't it
Personally, I'd expect to hear / play:
- quality oldies
- bit of crossover
- rare things and the odd semi known
- bit of rnb / grittier stuff
Hear what you're saying though folks and have been bored sh*tless countless times
What Phil said. I'd expect to hear the same as Phil.
I think the general cross-section of replies on the thread reflect exactly why the phrase has become commonplace to describe a Soul event and why the boundaries (if there are any anymore) have become clouded.
Back in the 70' you would expect it to be mainly oldies as that's mostly all there was anyway but as Steve L says above... a can of worms
-
Yes, if you are referring to the 'Hello Stranger 66', and fairly, yes
I had an inkling it might have some rarity value as I could never find any info about it.
Many thanks for the reply.

Here's one that doesn't pop up too often
Too right Dave - a hard one to find and it took me ages to get mine
The original local Detroit release I think
I also have a juke box strip for this one
Cheers
Richard
The same instrumental as the flip side to The Capitols Cool Jerk. Is it a rare release? Just interested like
-
I can probably answer that! The styrene's got 1975 on it, the vinyl ain't!
Is that right people?
Correct. Vinyl original is pretty thick and heavy too and the cat no's are different... Vinyl is "Sun 1117" / Styrene is "SI 1117".

I called one sellers bluff and told him i wasnt payin the charge to release it,and unless he met half the charge it would be sent back, then i would do a Paypal claim for item not received.
It worked.
Didnt tell him i'd already payed it.lol
I don't blame the seller where the item is insured, as they can't declare $10 when the items insured for, say, $200 otherwise they the insurance won't pay up if the item does genuinely go missing or get broke. It's the archaic customs regulations in this country that's to blame. After all, based on the true reasons why customs is there, every declared value of a 60's soul single should be no more than 50cents
I do get a bit narked tho when a seller declares an un-insured item at anything over the $15 that the USPS offer as compensation
-
£18 (about $28-$30) is the limit before they stop it for VAT. There is a higher figure aswell where they then charge Import Duty but I don't know what that is or what it applies to.
I'd cut your losses mate, VAT on $200 should really be about £25, so £12.84 is a bargain.
All carriers charge a £8 handling charge if it gets stung for customs.

Hi John,
Thanks for thinking of me mate. But, as I'm also receiving a few PM's offering me one, I'd better post up that I'm not actually looking to buy. I have one and was just wondering what the current going rate is as I've been asked to sell.
Sorry if there was any confusion.
-
Thanks for the replies.
There are a couple of threads from a few years ago which go anything from £60 up to £400. At least I got a bit of a smaller range to go off. There's one just gone on Ebay earlier (which didn't show up on my searching this afternoon
) for around the £120 mark.
-
Hi Folks,
What's the going rate for an original Mint- "Carol Anderson - Sad Girl / I'll Get Off At The Next Stop - Fee"?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
-
Not sure whether this applies to all accounts or not.....
If you look down the list of transactions, it appears to state "Payment For" when the transaction was a gift and "Payment To" when not. Also if you click on the "Details", the transaction details don't contain your address when sent as gift, but it does when sent otherwise.

To follow on from what Pete & others have said its a mine field and in all honesty boots normally always attract a higher price than a legit reissue anyway. Some of the 70s boots such as Mel Britt etc fetch £50 a pop and I once got over £100 on ebay for the realistic Salvadors boot.
As Mr Tag (hi John) says whats really doe's it matter as long as your not trying to pass it off as a original.
It is a minefield. In the case of the Mel Britt and some of the scarcer 73-78 copies that Pete refers to, what would be wrong with stating it as a "Rare 70's Pressing" ?

Not the first to do this kind of thing and not the last i guess... Its always gone on....
It must look so foolish to people looking on....
So Kev.... Soul over easy is the devil now i take it
Yes it looks like plenty more fun and games, lets just hope they aint all on here... Its a forum for fun and the games can get a little boring...
Too right!! Biggest culprit of the lot was Wigan Casino.
I can't comment on The Torch, Twisted Wheel, etc, but Wigan Casino was certainly the death knell for countless local Youth venues in the area.
All-nighter every Saturday Night and an Oldies All-nighter every 1st Friday of the month. Was that enough, oh no. Monday, Wednesday and Friday night early sessions aswell. Blew the local Youth Club culture out the water and did they care? Well, to be honest, they probably didn't even know. It was the "Best Disco In The World" afterall, so why on earth should they think about the local Youth Clubs?
Just a thought though, if there ain't a major influx of young 'uns onto this scene of ours in the next 5 or 10 years, this argument won't exist anyway. Get them Youth Clubs back up and running
P.S. I did enjoy my time at Wigan Casino by the way

Mines a purply blue one sold to me as an orig- Is an orig?
There was a thread on this last year ....
And Mr Manship has one for sale ..... https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/d/62660/ROYAL_FIVE

Don't suppose you'd class as dire if you're a West Ham fan but certainly for total contrast the flip side of "The Jewels-We Got Togetherness" which is entitled "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles"
And an Instrumental only your grannie would love check out "Bet You're Surprised" on the flip of G. Davis & R. Tyler's "Hold On Help Is On The Way"
You're right Harry....there's bleedin' thousands
-
By the looks of the bidding page, the Reserve Price was £1200
Lord knows though why anyone met it
-
Drives me daft this when a seller sends a package, uninsured by USPS mail and declares the value of the item greater than the maximum indemnity of $45.62.

Can someone please help me out on this , something that has puzzled me for years , did aske the question ages ago , but don't think I got the answer?
Jamo came up recentely and it made me think about it again
OK first heard by me on a CD Rhythm & Soul , loved it and bought the single which tunred out to be much much slower ?
Did a faster version ever get released ? or was the CD version something special ...an unreleased version ?
Thanks
Carms
Hiya Carms,
Not sure if this helpful or not but I have had 3 copies of this over time. Two black label Chess issues and a white Chess demo and they are all the same version, which I assume is the slower version you refer to. Will have to try and find the CD you mention to have a listen as I have not heard it.
Oh, just thought I'd have a root on Youtube and there's a post the version I have here....
P.S. Nice to see ya returning and enjoying Burscough Legion again

Some Blue-Eyed Northern Soul, Anyone?

What about "Detroit Soul" of "All Of My Life" fame? Where they black or white? Definitely has a blue-eyed feel to it for me.
