  1. now then blunny how yer doing ? re the vonettes i have one mine cost 80 squid i think its gone up since then may sell yer mine me old cocker and you can sort it at me next do in a few weeks time as you may know am off loading a few tunes i dont realy play any more .aniway let me think on it wink.gif regards paul

I'm doing fine Paul. Let me know before St Theresa's mate. It'll save me on postage laugh.gif so I reckon I could fetch you the cash in nice crispy notes biggrin.gif

  2. You're a bit out on the Lorraine Chandler though... £125 for a demo and £175 for an issue (black label) - or £15 for an orange 70s reissue.

One of the reasons I put the thread up here first really. Hopefully getting a general idea from the replies. If the totals about the same at the end, then the thread will have done it's job and I'll be chuffed. Doesn't mean I'll get any offers from sellers. Anybody selling might still think I'm a skinflint laugh.gif , but I'll feel better that I've got a consensus of opinion wink.gif

    So thanks again.

  3. Merle Spears was hammered to death about five years ago...

£60 should get you a clean playable copy (VG++ or better) less if you can get hold of an Atlantic copy.

Thanks mate. Think I've got a decent one for me money. (Crosses fingers laugh.gif )

  4. Think £75 for the Merle Spears is quite cheap...although I paid around that for it a few months ago it is starting to get spins and have seen it recently at £100-120

Thanks Beeks, for the reply, it is really appreciated. Had all these before biggrin.gif , sold 'em all sad.gif , trying to get 'em back now ohmy.gif

It's a top record, flogged the one I had 10 years ago for £3 unsure.gif Hopefully sorted with the Merle Spears now, thanks to me mate Andy (soulster1) informing me of a potential buy.

  5. Its a free market mate you never know at the momment, prices are so variable,I paid 30 for my Vonettes, you might not get minters but I do think 3-4 of your prices arnt that short of the mark!!!

    BAZ A

Thanks Baz. I was thinking of just posting it up but I didn't want anyone to hijack the thread with 'Give Over Mate, You Skinflint", type replies laugh.gif

£30 for the Vonettes? Ya bugger you wink.gif

  6. Bit of advice please.

I was gonna list in the wants section for the following original records. The amount in brackets following the record is the price I'd rather not pay more than. Thus not wasting any seller(s) time if their price is higher and wouldn't want to sell.

My query is.... Am I being realistic? Obviously I would want the best condition possible but What condition could I expect to get for the money?

    The records are......

    Dynamics - I Wanna Know - Big Top (£70)

    Lorraine Chandler - I Can't Hold On - RCA Victor (£85)

Merle Spears & The Treats - I Want To Know - Whit (£75)

Sheppards - How Do You Like It/Stubborn Heart - Mirwood (£80)

Vonettes - Touch My Heart - Cobblestone (£100)

I'd prefer to pay with PAYPAL which might have a little bearing on the prices, as some sellers prefer to have the buyer pay the fees.

    Thanks in advance folks.

  7. ronnie dyson- we can make it last forever - colombia, demo

    Hey up.

Great to meet you at Orrell on Saturday night mate.

Sent you a PM about the Ronnie Dyson Record.

    All the best.

  8. Glad this came up...as somebody was doubting the originality of said record recently.

It may also be useful to add that the ARCHER stamp on the counterfeits stamped not 100 % in order which means some leters are placed lower or higher than the others whereas on the original the whole stamp is like one and every letter is placed 100 5 accurate.

    Marc

    Correct Marc.

Just found this scan I had from a few years back......of the boot Archer.....

  9. Hi there, to clarify a dispute regarding a purchase of this I made, can anyone please confirm that the vinyl 'repro' has the ARCHER slightly staggered in the run out and is smaller than on the original ARCHER ??

I bought one that was advertised as the original and this is what I was sent and the seller won't have it that this is the 'repro'...

    Thanks for your time soulies....

    Spooky!!! :(

I was reading about this only yesterday in this thread... https://www.soul-source.co.uk/Ashford...e-B-t61118.html from the back end of December 07.

  10. This is one of my all-time fave Northern soul tracks a great dancer with a fantastic intro.I own a Mary Jane copy and a Green label Carrie. This is my understanding of the releases, could be wrong but its what i have been told by several good sources

Orange label Carrie is its first release

Then came the Mary Jane release without Call Me on the flip

    Then came the Jamico release

Then in the mid 70s Carrie re-released both sides on the Green label

The Carrie and Jamico tracks are from the same session and probably backed by the Fifes

The Mary jane is a different take and suggests a different session with backing this time by the Arabians

There is also of course the Uk Grapevine release with Baby Don't you weep

Edit: Forget that. My eyes are going

  11. l would say definetely YES to the question above with the reasons being we've all got older, got rid of the kids

paid off most of the mortgage and want to remember and re-live the best times of our lives

(anyway that's my opinion, what do you think??)

That's one possibility. There's also a greater awareness of it now. Both within the general public and a wider following across the globe. I think you're right in the sense that us 'oldies' have got more money than we had then and are perhaps doing more with it on the scene. For example, there are a lot more promoters promoting venues than there used to be. I'm sure there's more that can be added to the equation but that's a few.

I'm certainly glad that it's still going great guns

  12. Is this the original complaing about counterfeit bootleg threads, or is it a facsimile?

You'll have to check whether these threads have any matrix numbers and of course, whether they are etched, scratched or stamped

    Sorry

  13. We had three running last night and yet another one started today.

Apart from the fact that the are supposedly addressed to different factions, promotors, Dj's etc, it all the same question and its all been done so many times before. I've joined in as well but is it really necessary?

Why can't they all be amalgamated into one thread, which can take over from the Ian Levine thread as the most viewed, thus giving Bearsy maximum exposure and enabling him to satisfy his wish to become the next hate figure on here. Wheres Moggy when you need him?

Seriously, imo 4 threads at the same time after all the ones before is a bit much.

    Overplayed, re-issued threads!! Now there's a topic :(

  14. I agree, Soul Music is definately an artform, but the physical vinyl record is only a carrier or media.

The music itself is no less a work of art if played on any other legitimate media.

Of course, if one insists on the absolute original format then, short of having the artist in the room with a live performance, DJ's would need to go back to the original studio Master tapes.

Reckon that'll be the next big thing - Original Master Tape Only = OMTO.

    Yep, works for me.

    KTF OMTO

    Sean

Now I know it's impossible to achieve that in some cases (God bless them and may they RIP) but if you pay's you're money you wouldn't expect to turn up and watch the local vicar all dolled up to suit doing his impersonation of said artist would ya?

  15. Do the records spin the opposite way south of the equator?

    Never thought of that

Be interesting to know whether the motors burn out quicker down there as a result of the opposing gravitational pull though !!

  16. Hi.

    Any help appreciated here.

Any idea of a recent value for The Sensations (feat Yvonne Baker) - Baby - Junior 1006? There's a couple on Popsike but from quite a while ago. I don't have JM's recent edition. Only got 2nd edition and there's no mention of it in there.

    Many thanks in advance.

  17. can any body give a reason apart from juke box why american singles have no centers lps have have tried to explain to a non collector.but couldnt come up with a positive answer,,,thanks k

According to this little FAQ... https://www.tomh.demon.co.uk/jukebox/faq.htm#8 .... American record playing equipment used to select the correct speed to play the record at based on the hole size. (It's under the FAQ question 'So what's this dinking business then?')

  18. Yes,Jill.Totally agree. Some folk can spin well, some can do good floor acrobatics but often cant pull off the footwork skill.I like to watch people dance who use there whole body in rythmn and time to the music;who make it look so effortless (even tho am sure it's not) and almost like they are just "simply gliding"(if thats the rite word)across the floor.

I NEVER mock or criticise ANYONES style of dancing at venues but I ALWAYS make a point of COMPLEMENTING someone who has been just MAGIC and TRANSFIXING to watch on the dance floor.Specially the one's who make the hair's on my arms stand up who just have a natural "talent" for dancing to this music.

Am enlightenend that it's not only me who watches and appreciates the subject of this topic.

    Soo Holmes

Nice post. And so right. thumbup.gif

I like dancing myself and thoroughly enjoy every minute that I do. But as much a part of any night for me is watching others also. No matter how someone dances, most have something in their routine that catches the eye. Something different from everyone else.

  19. Bobby Hebb Love love love? NO

    Tony Clarke Landslide NO

    That's the lot then I think smile.gif

    How about ...

JJ Barnes - Please let me in?

Is Edwin Starr - Back Street not still in the running?

Just been back through the thread and not seen it discounted yet?

*Edit - Sorry, forget that. Just spotted the last part of mark.b's post at the top of this page relating to having no motown related in his collection.

*2nd Edit - Would that not apply to JJ Barnes - Please Let Me in aswell being a Ric-Tic record?
