Harthon Reissue Question
Some were actually around earlier - seem to remember the instr. of "Puttin' you on" somewhere towards the end of '74. Listen closely and you can actually hear the start of the vocal off-mike! Most (if not all) have the Virtue pressing plant scratched in the dead wax, and I thought they were an orange label. Hippo.

Paul O'grady-soulie?
Hmmmm...is there something you never told me Mr. Pitt? ...and yes, there are at least three Steve Smiths around on the scene. Frightening, huh?

Billy Sha-rae
In the case of "I'm gone" I believe it was a case of different artists for different regional markets - don't know if this holds true on other tracks? Hippo.

Paul O'grady-soulie?
Trouble is, there are some people who think that NS was the only thing ever played at the Casino, but it was obviously part of the circuit for pop bands on tour in the late 60's/early 70's... ...awaits the obvious reply...

Capitols Instrumental
Listening to the excellent clips of Guy at Stafford '85 he played the instr. of "Don't say maybe baby". I can't remember hearing it at the time or in fact anyone mentioning it at all. I take it that it came from Chris and Gilly's second trip...but was it an acetate from tape, and what happened to it. any ideas? Hippo.

Paul O'grady-soulie?
That would certainly account for one or two people cross dressing at Yate and Stafford...come in Steve Smith Hippo.

Shops That Play Soul Music
My good mate Paul O'Brien called me from Barnstaple (North Devon) yesterday to tell me he'd just heard P.P.Arnold "Everything's gonna be alright" in the Orange phone shop!

Hi Diddly Dee Dum Dum
Oh dear - maybe my brain is going to sleep - "Come to me softly" was never the flip of "Red Red Wine " in the US - that was "No good to cry". Forget I ever mentioned it... here's the UK issue of Hi diddley...

Tempos - Countdown
thanks for confirming that my memory's not completely shot....

Hi Diddly Dee Dum Dum
Yes, after the St. Clair issue. back on topic, JJ's version of "Hi Diddley" etc. was one of my favourite choons on its original release - and yet, to this day I've never heard the Dells version. now where's me headphones..... hippo.

Tempos - Countdown
If I remember rightly, the boot was a black & white photostat of the label, so the multi-coloured check means it's OK. Anyone confirm that? Hippo.

Hi Diddly Dee Dum Dum
Thought that "Red red wine" was t'other side...? Hippo

Sylvia Shamwell / Sham-ettes
Have a look at this: https://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Front.../shamettes.html ...so there's a Sam the Sham connection, but IMHO the Gold Dust group are completely different, although I have seen another site which assumes there's only one... Hippo.

Which Dj's From The Past Would Be Great Today?
Yes, that was the one - although we shudder at it today, those that came onto the scene post-Casino will never quite grasp the effect that it had on the crowd. However, we're all that much more sophisticated now, aren't we? And Jo, I'll be co-founder of the Clarkie Liberation Army with you - there are still a lot of people who'd love to see Ian, Tony Ellis and Greety on the same dj roster just once more... Hippo.

Which Dj's From The Past Would Be Great Today?
Sorry i'm late coming to this topic, but yup, you're right Russ, Kojak actually started Yate, did roadshows with varying amounts of success, so Bisley was concurrent with Yate. remember one at Tiff's on Durdham Downs in Bristol, a Monday evening do, must have been pre-Yate days as Footsee (with the different intro, probably played off an EMIdisc ) was the big tune! Also one of the better ones was Malvern, probably just before Christmas '74. Personally, never quite trusted the guy..... Hippo.

Which Dj's From The Past Would Be Great Today?
Coincidence time - just before coming online this morning I was playing my Tamla issue of Kim Weston "I'm still loving you" with Baz's name scratched in the runout groove - now which niter could I possibly have bought that at? Hippo.

Which Dj's From The Past Would Be Great Today?
Definitely was the Nitespot, as I was on that journey with you - I'd caught a train up from Cheltenham than tube across to St. Pancras as the rest of the Cheltenham crowd were showing signs of settling down (thankfully they're almost all still around!)...yes , Sam was dj'ing as I remember I'd bought a UK issue of Marvin Smith that night, at some point was showing him my purchase and told him how much I'd paid for it...now whether the system was loud there or my mind was confused, I ended up with the money and Sam with a single I'd only just bought! To this day I've never been able to work it out... BTW Definitely Ian Clark, and what about Alan Day from the Torch era, but Adey Pountain doen't really count as he still does the odd spot - like Cheltenham Saracens on November 11th! Hippo.

Revilot / Solid Hit / Ric-tic Etc - Bootlegs And Repressings
My brain's starting to hurt...I was led to believe that all the "proper" red copies have stick-on labels, and that only a few actually have stamped matrix (matrices??), the scratched-in ones are genuine as well. Something about a very large warehouse purchase in the early days of the scene, Somewhere I have an Edwin Starr Ric-Tic where one side is stamped, one scratched! Sort that out if you can! Many also have the "T1" or "T11" that you see on lots of Detroit-pressed singles. And yes, there were Boots as well - as has been said, pretty obvious by the colour or the standard of vinyl. One example is Sonny stitt's "00 Soul", just doesn't look or feel right. And I was going to stay well away from this thread, knowing there'd be trouble! Hippo.

Yvonne Gage
Did it ever come out on a 12"? I was sent it on a demo compilation album but never saw a finished copy. As follows.. GAGE, YVONNE - WINTER DAYS AND SUMMER NIGHTS. 1990 UK WORLD DANCE WDR-1 LP DEMO CUT LOUD VOLUME 1 Hippo.

Wanted Loretta Williams
Funnily enough, I was sorting out some 70's/80's/90's for Stroud tonight, and played my Uk 12" demo - sound is fine on my copy! Hippo.
