  1. got spins in the 80's but never really had its day. Plenty of life in this and Little Nicky Soul on the same label, both great records.
  2. Cheers John Like you I can't believe folk were in the first place duped by this and some still continue to deny it is anything but a boot, maybe they are the ones who invested in one of these and somehow how their money was well spent First saw this when the guy first did them and one was sent through to Andy Dyson, both Andy and myself both said on first view that it was a boot, they had clearly been doctored (given the carpet treatment) to make them look aged. To my ears when first listened it was evident they were the same take, just poor quality on the boot, no doubt cause the source was poor quality. No doubt this topic will come up again like it does annually and some will still convince themselves it is legit
  3. It's a boot. It is the Lyrics. The guy found an acetate, obviously wasn't aware of the Lyrics, pressed it, gave the first lot the carpet treatment to make them look worn.
  4. I have some at home Pete, don't have 143 mind and I've heard a few over the years...not heard War though. Also got some Shrine acapellas, Prophets doing One Gold Piece one of them.
  5. didn't Motown lay the backing and the vocals down at different times/separately after so many years? So I would guess other acapella's out there, certainly heard Temptations from a straight up Motown Source. There is a few on the Motown podcasts Motown did for their 50th.
  6. Visit Sitting In The Park, Boba did an interview with them not so long ago.
  7. I'll have a listen when I get home, I've not listened for a few years.
  8. There is a house/techno or summat like DJ in London called Jason Knight, probably where the misunderstanding comes from.
  9. probably Kitch Col, never heard of George having a copy but you never know.....
  10. well you are hardly gonna find out how Karl did on Saturday in this topic. I was always taught if nowt good to say then don't say owt Maybe Terry would be better off at times worrying about himself and not what others get up to in their own free time.
  11. what has it got to do with anyone where Matt or anyone else goes? Maybe the product on offer wasn't up to scratch or worth the journey?
  12. There is no problem as far as I'm concerned. If you'd put a date then maybe As far as I'm concerned you simply used your own venue and experiences to highlight your point.
  13. I think Motown used the acapella take on the Motown 50 podcasts.
  14. Like I said, another boring oldies vs. newness topic with the usual ignorant and ill informed comments and the usual derogatory remarks from people who don't attend the venues they are slagging off. How can you claim a DJ has an large ego just because he plays something different an d having never spoken to them? some of the biggest egos I know attend/promote oldies only nights. Some of the DJ's who talk the most are on the oldies scene, fig anything DJ's on the so called upfront scene talk little. And as for cliques, I agree but that is the same for any venue and any genre/facet of this scene. Some (hidden?) agendas from some on this topic me thinks.
  15. Know of three copies. Might have a scan at home of one of the last two off bay.
  16. We don't call them anything, they are dancers at Lifeline end of. We don't promote cause we are collectors and want to hear records nobody can dance too either as mentioned earlier. We are first and foremost lovers of this scene, a dance scene and want to hear dancers and see a full dancefloor. But we have no wish to stand still and see simply a retro dance scene listening to the same couple of hundred records month in month out. There is more dancers than collectors at Lifeline and the same can be said of places like the Wilton and the 100 Club. When I got into this scene it was an ever progressing scene, always looking for a new discovery and thats still what I try and seek out when I go to a venue. I love oldies but I love just as much hearing something I don't know. At the end of the day there are too many promotions, simple mathematics will tell you there are not enough people to go round all these venues, what they play is irrelevant, the numbers are not there on a weekly/monthly basis. It is ok Chris saying that Kings Hall/Torch reunion was rammed, but they are occasional events that will sell out, they bring people out of the woodwork and the part timers If you had Kings Hall every week it wouldn't be full, I doubt it would be half full. The Stafford reunion had well over a 1000 people in, many of those hearing many of the records for the first time, the dance floor was rammed ALL night. At the end of the day people only have a certain amount of money to spend and choose where they want to go. Where they choose to go is nobody else's business but their own. People should just do what they want and stop sniping at each other, the oldies crowd is as bad as the newies crowd and vice versa. Get to a venue and enjoy it while you can.
  17. It was an early 80's spin for Gary Rushbrook...Stafford etc. It is probably worth £250/£350 in the real world in terms of rarity. But someone paid over 900 quid at auction couple of months ago and again the one last night at $1200. Crazy world of collecting NS records!!
  18. I don't think it is one particular facet of this scene that is struggling Chris, I think it is across the board, oldies, newies, modern. It is a sign of the times plus the fact there are too many events for too few people.
  19. you'd need more than a shilling, that would probably just about turn the light on then you'd have to put another shilling in. The meters in those chalets eat money
  20. I'll double check but I think that's about it from Kell's 60's output, just the tater Pie missing but I don't have that disc. If you want to know more you can read Kell's story at https://www.soulunderground.co.uk/Soul_Underground/The_Kell_Osborne_Story.html I'll post the disc from the 80's little later, just need to find it.
  21. well it would be walking into one of those chalets now, they haven't changed since then
  22. aye but 1970 was 40 years ago
  23. No I don't mind. Those chalets probably haven't been touched by a decorator or refurbished since those days either. Maybe if they were a bit more modern with clean weather proof accomadation, not the grotty, damp bug infested chalets you get now, then maybe people would be prepared to holiday here? Would you take kids there now if they were ten/eleven twelve years old? I wouldn't!
