  1. A fellow soulie has asked me to obtain for her a nice mint or ex+ condition original of this tune on the Philly City label - must be the US original not the UK Grapevine release. Thanks.
  2. Absolutely right , and the Deon Jackson LP on Solid Smoke is from where his previously unreleased version of Barbara Lewis' "I Remember The Feeling" emanates . The Van Dykes LP also contains "Save My Love A Rainy Day" , the only legitimate LP release of the track as it never appeared on their Bell LP.
  3. Bob, I think the word "crash" is an inappropriate one. "Crash" implies that the whole soul collecting world will implode in the space of a day or two, like the infamous stock market crashes ! That will never happen. Rather, the soul collecting market will just gradually fade away over an extended period of time, as our current generations move on into the next life ... The northern soul scene - in its present form - will almost certainly disappear at some point but the genre of soul music and soul culture in all their various forms will live on forever to inspire future generations. Truly great music like classical, blues & jazz music will always endure , and so will soul music, which is the greatest music of them all !
  4. I'm sure my copy of Donnie Elbert's "Along Came Pride" is on UK Direction

Mossy, no one's twisting your arm. If you are afraid to bid, just don't bid. It's simple. Also not unusual for the original artists and behind the scenes people from the original era to be selling on ebay. For example, Lou Ragland himself was officially selling soul records (not his own recordings !) on ebay a few years ago !
  6. If you look at Tyrone Davis' biography , you'll see that he before he had his first commercial hit with Can I Change My Mind he cut some sides with West Coast record label owner and producer Wally Roker, who was the guy behind Canyon and Soul Clock , so one presumes that when Tyrone hit big maybe Roker flogged the Rudy Love tapes as being by "Tyrone Davis" ....

The other rarer version is by Linda Queen on Rod.
  8. The Olympics and Bob Relf ARE the SAME tune ... they just happen to be different versions with different backing tracks and slightly different titles ... but they ARE most definitely one and the SAME tune.

One of US Bonds' last records on SPQR from 1965 , an up tempo track called "Sarah Jane" is a northern biggie waiting to happen. I'm surprised that it's yet to be picked up by the scene. Must be elusive as I've only seen demos ... on the rare occasions that I've seen it. By '65 he had left the twist sound behind and obviously decided to move with the times .
  12. JAMES PHELPS , numero uno!!!!

They're both good ones, but surprisingly, the most interesting one is the MFP (Music For Please) UK cheapie LP release from the early 70's which had some superb previously unreleased Jimmy Ruffin tracks and the unbelievable "I Will Never Let You Get Away" which I think sneaked out later as a UK only 7" B side .
  14. Connie Stevens...TICK TOCK...Bell issue £150 EX An absolute monster in waiting !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gasher, you should put up a full clip of the record for Soul Sourcers to listen to ...
  15. Ben E King rarest form is on a beaut Green & White Aussie Atlantic issue !!! Expect to pay a minimum 75 quid for one of these .... if you can find one for sale that is ...

Apologies , no offence intended , yes Chris is a good man !
  19. How much was the James Mason 7 " ? About to break on northern dancefloors, including the equally brillliant flipside Free !
  20. Agree wholeheartedly with every one of those choices Tone, and I've always put in the same timeless category Otis Leavill's "Love Uprising" which for a '69/70 recording is still well ahead of the game .... I play that today and still people come up and think it's a new contemporary RnB release with its fat bass and sparse rhythm sound !
  21. Dave, have you ever asked yourself .... "does every soul collector and enthusiast in the UK and around the world visit the Soul Source web site occasionally .... or at all .... or even know it exists ? " As much as I love this site and live and breathe this site, I think you'll find the proportion of soul people who know about this site is sadly in the minority ......

Chris Anderton , sold this on his last week for 100 UK GBP ............
  23. Paul, never really liked Daryll Pandy's house re-working of it, I thinked it lacked the warm , soulful touch of Ike's original. And now that the "in-vogue" sound of the northern scene at the moment is uptempo, busy (slightly) funky 70's tunes, I think Ike's original could become a popular northern record. OK , where are the UK label specialists ? Maybe there's a Demo on UK ABC (which distributed Hot Buttered Soul ) ???
  24. Always thought Isaac Hayes' "I Can't Turn Around" off his 1976 LP Chocolate Chip LP could be a big record on the northern scene, has all the ingredients, but was it released as a 45 in the US or UK or Europe ? Or is it LP only ?
  25. Don't Want Nobody : The Dells Fabulous uptempo 45 release off the Dells' LP on Private Eye records from 1984. Was quite popular as a modern track at Stafford mid 80's, if my memory serves me right ... And to double up on the soul power , the flipside of the Don't Want Nobody 45 is a brilliant deep tune called You Just Can't Walk Away !
