*** THE CORNER POCKET AT THE MAJESTIC SUITE ***

Well as always and yet again we can only say a huge THANK YOU to everyone that came and supported our event on Saturday 21st April, once more we had superb numbers coming from both near and far to be with us on the hottest night of the year at this ever growing monthly event (so please remember if you would like to be seated at a table of your choice you'll need to get there early) And here are a just few mentions to all those that helped make this night such a standout success..... Firstly to our special guest DJ for the evening an old friend of our Mexborough Soul nights, Mr Graham Trow, always a popular choice here with us for his third visit, and who worked the decks in his usual belt and braces manner playing a solid fuel filled sixty minutes of quality Northern Soul, even managing to play some back of the box selections in his set, top marks to him and I'm sure Graham will be back very soon! A big thumbs up to my fellow DJ's firstly club resident Derek Greenhoff who managed to keep the dancers happy with a vibrant blend of old school classics all set to a just over easy tempo and some nice alternative takes on Northern standards a slick set by any standards. If you like your night to have a large helping of killer R'n'B, Woody is the man for you, playing some the coolest dance licks you will get to hear outside London (and even breaking a new play or two) so for the fans of down right dirty and gritty R'n'B this man has your number in fine style, and causing quite a stir with a new addition to his collection with the very much in demand Magnus Carlson's "From Now On" on Acid Jazz records. No Corner Pocket event wouldn't be complete without the traffic skills of two girls on the door the Miss T and Jackie who as always month in and month out manage to perform a sterling job always with a smile and friendly welcome and of course doing the hardest job of the night....wow! We would like to give credit to our unsung hero's that no Corner Pocket event would be the same without and that goes to the hard work of our behind the scenes back room boys and girls, who without a doubt put all their their time and effort into making these monthly event such winners to our good friends Gary and Theresa, Russ and Mick who never fail to spread the word and tirelessly flyer at other Soul events both near and far, and a special mention goes to our two newest members of the Corner Pocket promotion team, Brent and Shaun "Buggys" Malone from the Sheffield branch, and as always nice to see Bouncing Barry, Crazy Nurse Christine (thank you for the lovey gifts, they truly mean a lot) and the Royston gang great to see you all, thank you. A big thanks to our behind the scenes man of the moment Tony "Ado" Adamson who's roadie skills and equipment set up expertise is paramount to the smooth running of the night...top man Tony! But the most important thank you goes to our all loyal supporters who are the very essence of this night and make it an every growing success, without your support this and so many other Soul nights would fall by the wayside and for that commitment we truly are more than great. This months special guest DJ is Mr Paul Welsby (Halifax, Manchester) who has been a driving force in the Manchester Northern Soul scene for many years, Paul's knowledge on all things Soul is encyclopedic, with a massive record collection of quality discs from all parts of the Soul spectrum. Paul also has a very fine original Ska and Raggae collection and has given his expertise on numerous compilations albums over the years. So another fantastic night in prospect here at Mexborough's finest The Corner Pocket Soul Club (each and every 3rd Saturday of the month)

Corner Pocket Soul Nights @ The Majestic Suite, Mexborough

Hi everybody just a few lines to say how sorry we were to have had to cancel last Saturday's event at the very last moment. Sadly the Arctic weather conditions just beat us, we hoped the snow would ease but instead it just worsened to the extent that the police had to close a main road due to multiple accidents causing severe tailbacks. This was compounded by the local taxi companies taking their vehicles off the road, stopping people getting there or even worse leaving them stranded when we finished so it was with a heavy heart that we had to call time on our night. The good news is we're back again as normal on the 21st of April with our special guest DJ Mr Graham Trow.

Hi everyone and greeting from a very snowy Sheffield, firstly apologies for the late reply but like so many other people I've been recently battling flu (and most certainly not the Man Flu variety but the full weight no holds bared type) so here at long last is a massive thank you to each and everyone who attended our last event (Saturday 17th February) here at The Corner Pocket. Outstanding numbers of our regular guests and new comers alike making it yet another packer of a night and a full dance floor from 8:30pm onwards that never eased the entire evening. Many happy returns from us all here to the Maria H who celebrated her birthday with us all and was kind enough to even bring a generous selection of buffet food to share with everyone, Maria it was a lovely gesture and I'll keep your age our little secret but best wishes from all the Corner Pocket Soul team and all your friends. Thanks to my fellow DJ's for services to vinyl, Derek you were dipping into the back section of your collection to pull out some Soul masterpieces nice to hear some forgotten plays getting a spot of well deserved deck time. Woody you made my follow on spot a breeze, with a great blend of oldies that were all to the highest caliber (and often on some very nice original British demo Issues....swoon) Top marks to our very special guest DJ for the night Mr Rob Wickes, who played an excellent balanced and honed selection of classic tunes to a heaving dance floor and threw in a couple of the coolest of '70's dancers just for good measure, I'm sure Rob will be back at some point his pending his commitments, we'll look forward to that day. Thanks to the girls on the door namely Jackie and Sue aka Miss T that kept order and decorum all night, out of us all this is the job that really does require so much concentration at the end of the evening you are drained. As always would like to give credit to our unsung hero's that no Corner Pocket event would be the same without and that goes to the hard work of our behind the scenes back room boys and girls, who without a doubt put all their their time and effort into making these monthly event such winners to our good friends Gary and Theresa, Russ and Mick who never fail to spread the word and tirelessly flyer at other Soul events both near and far, thank you all. One more little mention to Christine (the crazy nurse) who still isn't fully fighting fit, but did manage to do a little more dancing than last time and I promise i'll play your request in March, so get well soon Chris, and quick shout out to Barry Hinds a man with more energy that a Duracell bunny, Barry you are a machine and I'm informed you're nick named "Bouncing Barry" you really just don't stop, but nice as always to see you and your friends! Finally the biggest and most sincere thank you goes to each and everyone of you who gives your support to our event and above all make this night such a success, to those of you who come each and every month and to our first timers, to our long distance attendees and our locals and to all those who simply want a great night listening to fantastic soul music, we simply can't thank you enough! Next months special guest DJ here at The Corner Pocket is Rotherham's very own Terry Lowe, Terry bought his first Northern Soul record at the tender age of 12 and was doing youth club events at 13, Terry has done guest DJ spots all around Europe and is a regular guest at many venues with a passion for old school classic soul, A big collector and with some great stuff in his extensive collection so rest assured we're in for another quality night on the 17th, so till then. keep warm, keep safe and keep souling!
  11. So my comments have disgusted you, and I have a weird mind, or I'm I missing something?
  12. I'm very surprise that this statement has been met with such disbelieve, Peter Sutcliffe was to all to all intents and purposes (apart from him being a serial killer) was a very normal person who did a very average job and lived a very normal life, so why shouldn't he have enjoyed or at least attend Northern Soul events? do you need to be compos mentis to enjoy Soul Music I think not! But I can accredit this statement further fr..
  13. This person might be more infamous rather than celebrity and that's no other than Peter Sutcliffe "The Yorkshire Ripper, who was well known for visiting Northern Soul events in around the Leeds area in the mid 1970's
