I have a few friends who have had treatment for prostate cancer - all got through it successfully apart from one. A good few years ago, one of my close friends knew that her husband had a problem. She'd tried for months on end to reason with him - begged & pleaded - cajoled - nagged & bullied him to see the doctor, but he refused outright - head buried very deeply in the sand - until it was far too late & he was way beyond treatment. He spent his final days being cared for in a hospice.
Very sad, heart-breaking story, but there's a lesson to be learned here guys - look after yourselves & please don't leave it too late to seek help!
My heart goes out to anyone living with this or any other form of cancer.

To me, AI will always look like some "plastic" creation - it will never be able to replicate the buzz that we all felt when en route to an all-nighter........ the sweat running down the walls of some grubby old cellar with the music bouncing off the walls..... that gritty atmosphere that we all remember so fondly.....walking out on a Sunday morning blinking in the sunlight (or shivering in the cold!) with the music still ringing in our ears........AI will never - ever - be able to do that!

For those who haven't already seen this great video of Plebs , Halifax 1967. They seem to be having a good time especially the girl at 1min 17 secs. Anyone go there or know anyone in the clip?
I went there a few times but mostly went to The Wheel. Can't see any faces I recognise but it was SO many years ago! You're right Rick - they all do look to be having a good time...some big eyes there...

I was at The Twisted Wheel most weekends from 1966-70 & saw some brilliant bands there - way too many to list them all! The Drifters. Junior Walker, Ike & Tina, Root & Jenny Jackson, Oscar Tony Jr, Jimmy James, J.J. Jackson, Jimmy Ruffin, Jamo Thomas, Bandwagon, Flamingos..........that's just off the top of my head - I could go on forever! I tried a few other clubs - Golden Disc in Keighley - Plebs in Halifax - Birdtrap in Burnley - String o Beads in Bradford to name just a few - but the Wheel was always favourite.
Happy days - we didn't realise at the time just how lucky we were!

Is anyone watching Virdee on BBC1? All filmed in Bradford (my home city) & it's interesting to see all those familiar locations on the telly! Doesn't do much for Bradford's already tarnished reputation, but it's well worth a look!

Jesus.....that's it! Wow...I have goosebumps. I had this "so come on and make a dream come true" with a bit more passion in my mind but that is exactly the song. Wow. Thank you so much.
Tell me, how did you do it? If googled it with exactly the lyrics I posted a 100 times and even ChatGPT was clueless.....Amazing Kathryn, thank you!I just googled it & it came up straight away - must be my magic touch!
Glad I could help.

Never could resist a challenge so I just googled the lyrics Bukem - I think you might be looking for One Kiss Away by Billy Ocean. Hope this helps!

Looks and sounds like a bandwagon leap on the hot subject of the moment from another outsider attempting to cash in... Other than that, this just sounds like horribly processed AI effort at best and a lazy attempt with preset samples on very basic recording software.
My thoughts exactly!

As well as the upstairs coffee bar room, there was a 2nd room upstairs. This was beyond the stairs down to the dance areas / stage room. This room was usually almost empty & always cold, but you had to go through it to reach the gents.
We all used to call it "The Cold Room" - I remember it well Roburt - too cold & smelly (the gents!) to stay in there for long! I would always have a look in at some point during the night to see if I knew anyone in there, but rarely stayed for long cos of the strong pong! I've never found a photo of the room, although I vaguely recall a few of us sitting in there chatting to Jimmy Cliff one night.

I was a regular at Whitworth St from 1966-70. I've found a few photos on Facebook from back in the day - first two were taken in the upstairs coffee bar - next two in the room where the DJ's cage was & the last one in the stage room where the bands played. Have to say I've scanned these pics so many times looking for familiar faces!
Hope the pics help to refresh your memory Chris!

Watching So Long Marianne (Leonard Cohen) on ITVX - only seen episode 1 so far & it's a definite
from me!

I've reported scammers to Facebook too (not records - offering tickets for sale & very obviously scammers) but profiles weren't removed - Facebook happy with the post & not breaching rules etc
Not much else we can do is there? Just try to warn people & hope they don't fall for it.

I remember it well. We were so naive, funny now thinking about all those 'public service' top-tips, like taking your doors off to build a fall-out shelter and hiding behind your settee.

The news article linked below led me to re-watch the BBCs 1984 Threads
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c2dp8197y3eo
A television drama about a fictional nuclear attack on the city of Sheffield had a profound effect on many who watched it in the 1980s. Now it has aired once again, we spoke to some first and second-time viewers to gauge their reaction.
40 years on, forgot how harrowing it was at the time
I'd say alltime must watch tv but for the wrong reasons
anyone else re-visited it?
I've just watched Threads again - I'd forgotten just how harrowing it was to watch too. Definitely a must watch but as you say, for all the wrong reasons.

I saw it first time round - saved it to watch again when I can steel myself to do it. As you say Mike - well worth a watch but for the wrong reasons.

Did anyone watch "Till" on BBC2 on Sunday night? It's based on a true story exposing racism in 1950s Mississippi, when a 14 year old boy was murdered for paying a compliment to a white woman. Very sad story & well worth watching.

Thanks Kathryn, glad you enjoyed it i(if 'enjoyed' is the right word) Sort of film related, I'm currently watching 'Better call Saul' on Netflix . Once you get through the first couple of episodes in series one, which to be honest are mildly annoying, it settles down to become a truly great peice of Television.
Back on topic, one of the better films I've seen lately is 'Mr Jones' I think it's on Netflix - not entirely sure, it's all about Stalin's forced starvation of the Ukrainian people in the 1930s.
I've seen Mr Jones - it's another film well worth watching
