    THREE SIX ALL NIGHTER

Coming over from Wales after finishing work at 10pm. Aim to hit the ground running so save me a space on the floor!

soulknights northern soul at connahs quay

I'll be there, my local night, always gutted when I (rarely) miss it. This is one of THE best 'hidden gem' friday nights out there. Great venue, easy to get to from all over the north west/midlands/Wales, floor filling tunes all night and plenty of seating. Deserves to be up there with the more well known nights. Get on it, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks Steve. Yes I did, Good night, met some nice people and danced to some great tunes. Left before the end though to go to Burnley allnighter where I stayed till about 5, sweated a lot and then drove home in torrential rain and floods. Great night all round.

    HORWICH RMI

Thanks for making a RMI virgin feel welcome. Great, friendly crowd in a class venue. A good mix of tunes that kept the floor full, pretty much all night. Met some really nice people and look forward to coming back over from Wales very soon.

How Far Would You Go? Journeys To Events

It would probably be closer to row over to a Norwegian Soul Night
  7. Living in rural Wales, without a car, with friends who didn't have a love of Soul, meant getting to events could be a pain in the bum, but of course, always worth it. One regular journey was to The Carlton in Morecambe. Two mile walk into town (The village I lived in only had two buses, one out at 7.30am and one in at 5.30pm), then bus from town to Rhyl. Train from Rhyl to Chester, change at Chester for Warrington. Warrington to Preston, change for Morecambe. Around 5/6hrs in all. Coming back though...(remember, it's Sunday in the 1980's) Bus from Morecambe to Lancaster. Arrive Lancaster 9am, no train to Preston until 1pm, no bus til 11am. Lancaster to Preston (usually bus) then the same journey reversed with longer waits for changes of train/bus, but hopefully a lift from town to home. Nighter finished at 6/7am, I was usually home for about 6pm. Another to Queens Hall, Bradford. Walk to town/Bus to Rhyl/Train Chester/Train Warrington/Walk from one side of Warrington to the other/Bus to Culcheth/Lift to Bradford. Then the same thing back the next day with Sunday hours thrown in. I'm not complaining, I loved every minute (apart from sitting on windswept railway platforms in winter when all your changes of clothes are wet with sweat and any money you had for a cup of tea has been spent on records), but now, being able to drive, it's all so much more enjoyable. I'll be at Horwich RMI in an hour this weekend and half an hour from there, I'll be at Burnley Allnighter. The journey home will be nice and warm and I've got a holder for a coffee and a stereo full of tunes. What's your most memorable/horrific/life changing/tedious journey to a Soul event? Whatever it was, I'm guessing it was one of the nights of your life.

    (Countdown) Here I Come

Ideal. I'm a chef, so always have the 'chef's weekend' (Sunday and Monday) off. A sunday 'dayer will always be tempting.

Yeah, I'm seriously considering Burnley now, heard LOTS of good things and recommendations about it. So I think I'll have to knock my Friday visit to Soulknights on the head in order to conserve my dancing energy (sorry guys, you're my local night, don't worry I'll be there next time). I'm going to head to Horwich early, then make my way round the corner to Burnley later. Best start doing some stretches!

    BURNLEY ALL NIGHTER.

What time's last entry? I'm coming up from Wales to Horwich RMI Soul Night and it would be a pity to miss the allnighter, what with it only being 'round the corner'!

    HORWICH RMI

Hoping (90% certain) to make it over from Wales, because this sure looks like a good'un. I'm sure the welcome in the hillsides of Lancashire will make it worth the effort.

Vgc 0 posts Posted 7 mins ago Back in 1990/91 I was 'Just another fool, Leaving the scene'. Burnt out, bushed and bored. Yarmouth Weekender finished me off! I'd spent the 80's going to The Carlton Morecambe, Keele, Bradford Queens Hall, Tony's Empress, so many nighters big and small, Bolton, Burnley, Sheffield. I needed a break before I got broken. Then I met the future wife, got a job down south, new group of friends, got married, kids...and the break became 23 years. But, I still had my (admitedly small but with a fair few belters) box of records, the patches cut off old jackets and shirts that couldn't keep up with my waistline, my Vespa P200e (RIP) and the tattoo on my chest that reminds me every day. But now I'm making moves back onto the scene, tentatively putting toes onto dancefloors and hoping my creaking joints and aching muscles can keep up. Old friends have been found/found me via the wonders of Facebook and thanks to the internet I'm re-aquainting myself with hundreds of tunes, some I'd forgotten, some I'll never forget and some completely new to these ears. I hit my first nighter in almost 24 years at Stoke in October. I went on my own and spoke to virtually no one for about six hours, but, I had a grin from ear to ear all night, danced to more than my fair share and left with a spring in my step (that unfortunately had completely seized up by the time I woke up later that Sunday!). But now the buzz is back, my brain is just full of soul everyday, the Mrs doesn't get a look in on the stereo, my daughter asks me why I dance 'Like a lady' (!?) and I've got my Prestatyn wristbands, hopefully off to Soulknights in Connahs Quay on Friday and Horwich RMI on Saturday (maybe even Burnley allnighter afterwards if my knees can take it!). So if anybody feels like adding me as a friend on here or give me any pointers as to the best nights, days and nighters...feel free, I'd love to hear from you.
