Lucky one got a reaction from Goldsoul in The death of large Hall commercial oldies nighters
My wife and I attended the kings hall allnighter last Saturday mainly because my wife enjoys it not really my  bag but still a good night out. Numbers were down but with so much going on these days is it any surprise to anyone really. I can remember when I was going to Wigan regularly in 1976 around November of that year I and a few friends went one Saturday night to the casino on a really cold foggy night, when we arrived in the early hours of Sunday morning to find there were probably 200 at the most in the entire building so what`s the big deal. Say what you like about the so called glory day`s of the 70s I prefer the scene today so much choice and variety which  did not exist then. The previous Saturday we visited Rugby which is very much up my street isn`t that the great thing about today`s scene you can do the same thing each week but it can be so different long my this continue.

Lucky one got a reaction from chalky in Keb Darge Tapes Mid 80s
Well done Chalky excellent effort to bring these recordings to a wider audience. I have always felt that this period was one of the scenes better eras, I consider myself and everyone who attended Stafford very fortunate the have lived through it and living only half an hours drive away couldn't really have been any better. I look forward to the next tape, thanks once again.

We all know the casino was a dump and how it was managed left a lot to be desired, but who wouldn't love to go back for just one night I certainly would. so glad my parents let me go as I was only fifteen when I first visited. Not the best allnighter I have visited but certainly one of the best venues in terms of being ideal for an allnighter.

I have just signed, I have loved Stafford`s all of my life having owned five of these great dogs I will hopefully die owning one of them if I have anything to do with it. How things change during the 60`s and early seventies we had the only Stafford on our estate  ( Bushbury Wolverhampton) a red called Rex . Wish I had a pound for each one there is today. Stafford`s are one of the few things in life I have any interest apart from this great music of ours and my old car habit.

Everything in life changes the 100 club allnighters are no different. Can you imagine the soul scene without it?. It would certainly be a lot poorer  nothing has come close to what it has done past or present long may this great event continue. On a personal note my wife and I are looking forward to next months event to which we will be making our fourth visit to the best allnighter ever.

Lucky one got a reaction from Bruv in Records That Will Always Remind You Of A Venue
Wakefield unity allnighter August 1977, Hearing Marie knight That's no way to treat a girl for the first time and thinking to myself what an outstanding record. Still think that when I hear it at a venue even after all these years. One of the best records to be played on the scene at one of the best allnighter I have ever attended.

Am I right in recalling that Junior Walker performed at Wigan around the same time May 1977. I went to that allnighter brilliant performance best I ever witnessed.

A superb clip of a great nighter, and great period for the scene when there wasn't so much going on which made it all a bit special something that seems to be lacking today or is that just me.

Lucky one got a reaction from El Corol in Friday Night Oldies Night "beginning of the end"?
In some respects that is true, but they were great in terms of the atmosphere and also were a learning curve for people such as myself who hadn't` at that point been into the music very long.

Lucky one reacted to Dean in Re-imagining Northern Soul History
On the theme of re-imagining, particularly Wigan, I think the greatest way forward for the Casino was to close. The way it closed was a mess, so many final last nights! In my mind many regulars had already become disillusioned with the Casino in the run up to closure. Saturday nights were attended mostly to hear Searling's spot and were frequently half empty. The oldies Fridays and other interval Oldies revisited nights were popular, perhaps a taste of what was to come regarding standard fancy dress oldies nights/rooms V's rare nights / rooms. Most people I knew couldn't be bothered to go to the 'definitely the last one' nights. Perhaps Wigan would have faded and not been so fondly remembered if it had lingered. I'm not Casino bashing, had some of the best nights of life in that hall, but by the end it was only Searling that kept interest alive for me.

Lucky one got a reaction from Bruv in Driving an old and/or classic car ?
I love old / older cars always have, am lucky enough to own three cars a 1991 mark2 VW golf GTI, 1988 BMW E30 320 and 2005 Mini cooper which is our daily driver. All three have loads of character and are great to drive loads more than any modern car. The E30 is currently off the road while I do some mild restoration over the winter months ready for next year. The golf is used for local running around and taking our two dogs out and about, while the mini is for my wife to go to work in and going out, we went to Rugby allnighter in it on Saturday never missed a beat, great thread and some equally  very interesting cars on it.
