At Last - Out On Kent Select 45 26th October 2018

The nights are drawing in and the fall is not too far away! So to brighten a dreary Autumn, we have something very special on the horizon.
Darrow Fletcher’s superb ‘(Love Is My) Secret Weapon’ written by Grey and Hanks with Jerry Butler and recorded in Los Angeles in the 70’s is a true in demander, folk have been hankering for, for many years.

It’s a track that’s been central in my every set since the heady ‘Just Soul’ nights of 2011. A ‘modern stomper’ in classic style and with immediate appeal which has graced dance floor’s as diverse as Soul Essence, Great Yarmouth, The Windsor Suite, Stoke and London’s famous 100 Club! It certainly covers a lot of bases and pleases all camps, totally across the board.
‘Secret Weapon’ has a very different feel to his earlier, Chicago recordings. It was to have been included in a previously unreleased Darrow Fletcher album, which eventually saw the light of day on an excellent Kent compilation, back in 2012; CrossOver Soul: 1975-1979 Los Angeles Sessions. Still available on AceRecords.co.uk

Coming your way on a shiny new Kent Select 45, scheduled for end October 2018. Backed with the brassy ‘How Can You Live’ it’s something to look forward to, and an absolute essential for those looking for a killer Soul track for the dancefloor.

Both sides on the clip. Edited obviously so those nerfarious booters/pirates don't make hay I assume. Got to say I'm torn between which side I prefer! But glad to be adding both to the groaning shelves at Harrogate towers!

Sean Hampsey reacted to lovemusic in News: Dean Johnson R.I.P.
Dean has gone. He has left us a legacy of music and wit. A path that once started, we can never quite manage to deviate from.
My favourite teacher of tunes, my tutor in wit. My friend, that although I didn't see him as often as I should, catching up was just a greeting away. There are many reminders of Dean at my house, in records I've bought off him, or been recommended by him. Articles in magazines written by him, flyers of doo's featuring him. Comments on my laptop by him, and also pictures of him. But most of all I cherish those weekdays when I was on my day off and chose to spend it at expansion records, in his company, talking about life and more importantly music!
Parkers was probably my favourite club with early arrival essential to get Dean in his element, playing records he knew he wouldn't get away with playing later on, or indeed at most other clubs.
One night he dropped Sebastian Williams-Get Your Point Over for the first time, for me anyway, and I just had to have it. Those Horns, the pathos in his voice and the story.
Asking about it the following week in the shop, he was adamant he hadn't played it, but had played the flipside instead I Don't Care What Mama Said. That argument was re-visited down the years with the same outcome.
So now I'll pay my last respects up in the hills, and later I'll dig out the kindle and have another crack at his book about record collecting in space.

Making available a series of excellent Soul recordings from the 60’s and 70’s, most of which will be released as a limited edition 45 for the very first time, and the occasional, carefully selected, re-issue. Dozens of titles are already lined up for future release. Keep informed by collecting the vinyl, joining the mailing list, visiting the website and social media pages regularly and ensure you’re among the first to know!
    Can You Dig It?
And here's the first ‘Diggin’ Deep’ Limited Edition 45!
    Release Date 13th July 2018
    Available To Pre-Order from 2nd July 2018!
DD 001A Willie Walker ‘Two Paces Ahead Of Love”
DD 001B Barbara Brown ‘It Hurts Me So Much'
Our first release joins together two stalwarts of the Southern Soul scene, stemming from Sounds of Memphis records.
The ‘A’ side is a scorching mid-tempo, Deep Soul stepper from the legendary Willie Walker. A ‘crossover soul’ track which has already proven itself on the floor at such progressive venues as Soul Essence and Diggin’ Deep. We believe that “Two Paces Ahead Of Love” will become a firm dancefloor favourite on its very first vinyl issue.
Flip it over and we present the most stunning Deep Soul ballad from Barbara and the Browns. This track has long been revered by the Deep Soul fraternity and “It Hurts Me So Much” is considered by many to be one of the finest unissued ‘Deepies’ to come out of Memphis!
Both sides are now available on a beautifully mastered 45 for the very first time.
This collector’s release is a limited pressing @ just £12 each plus postage and packing.
