  3. A surprising night at the Montgomery Hall, Wath-Upon-Dearne. The soul night recently switched from Friday to Saturday night and this has had a dramatic affect. Wath town centre was obviously crying out for a venue for the Saturday night revellers because they all showed up. Fortunately these revellers were schooled in the art of soul. Mining villages such as Wath-Upon-Dearne were previously saturated with soul music and there was no escaping the music, way back then, not that anybody wanted to. OK, there might have been a few very nice ladies with handbags, but they knew how to strut their stuff and they did. The music was a mix of traditional Northern Soul, 70s & 80s stuff and of course R&B. The R&B went down particularly well, and I nearly had a Stroke trying to dance liked I used to. So watch out for the next event and join in the excitement of this fast growing club with some fantastic DJ's. Mick TP Casey

    Dearne Playhouse

The Dearne Playhouse R&B Event, a sight to behold. I can't praise everyone enough for their attendance and contributions. I'm obviously bias towards giving a good report as it’s my event but I can't lie about how fantastic last night was. A huge thanks to all the dj's Ciro, Glenn Merrifield, Doug Lewis, Joe Lakin and John Moffatt . A special thanks to Steve Mank and Sharon Rigby for providing the equipment and being there with me from 17.30-01.30. Philomena & Alan Cawkwell for manning the door. My son Micheal for selling raffle tickets and Linda, Des, etc. for assisting with the raffle draw. Not forgetting my friends behind the scenes who help with ticket and poster production, raffle prizes and for being their when the pressure is on. You know who you are, xxx. Joe Lakin's R&B CD comprising of R&B and beat music played at the Dearne Playhouse. Assisted by John Moffatt raised £50. Does the Dearne Playhouse have a future ?. Yes it does whilst ever dedicated fans like you, show up on the night and support the music. Thank you again. £300 raised on the night for good causes in Sri Lanka. All proceeds will go to the needy in Sri Lanka, Widows, orphans and the poor. Also to support young medical students training to be doctors. Two raffle prizes yet to be claimed. Vodka 206-210 and Red Wine 106-110. Next event 4th Jan 2014, put it in your social calendar and save me your unwanted Christmas gifts for the raffle, (No Cardigans). God bless you all, Mick TP Casey
  7. Thank you so much for everyone who attended the Dearne Playhouse 22nd June 2013. If you’re a fan of R&B then you where at the right place last night. So many of you travelled from afar and I thank you for that. You certainly reaped the rewards last night as there were so many fantastic tunes played. A few tracks being heard for the first time, discovered from the vaults but destined to be heard many more times. Everyone one of the DJ's played great sets. You made Goldthorpe proud and put it in a positive light, post Thatcher the milk snatcher. However, In this present economic climate venues such as the Dearne Playhouse need to pack them in to cover the running costs of the building. Whilst there were plenty people in last night I need a third more to cover the running costs and break even. As I’ve no intention of raising the door fee above £4.00. I’m considering making the 7th September 2013 charity event the penultimate one. We’ve had a great time and put R&B on the map in the Dearne Valley. Other clubs have followed and I’m delighted there are now, so many R&B events to choose from. If anyone has any idea’s of how to survive' I’d be pleased to hear them. Post them on the site. A big thank you to Des Pejko who did the door. Dj's: Joe Lakin, Eileen Vasey, Andrew Vasey, Graham Wright, Allan Swires, Neil Firth. Steve Mank and Sharon Rigby, who supply the equipment free of charge and like me are there at 18.30 and leave at 02.00. Dedication or what ? Mick TP Casey

  10. After weeks of planning and running around 5 hours always passes very quickly at the Dearne Playhouse R&B event. The DJ’s, Steve Mank, John Moffatt, Christian Scott, Ed Hordwood, John Paul Leasing and Joe Lakin, played some exceptional music. One has to travel a fair distance to hear the music tracks played last night. So a big thank you to all those that did just that. A special mention to the Kettering, Scarborough and Huddersfield contingents and it’s always nice to see the Sheffield gang. All styles of R&B music were played and the dj’s endeavored to please everyone. The night got off to a chilly start because the building needed to be warmed up from the Easter break and the main room lights took a bit of sorting. We eventually got there and once the dance floor took off the atmosphere said it all. A big thank you to Philomena and Alan who did the door and last but not least Steve Mank and Sharon Rigby who provide the sound equipment. Without their help this event wouldn’t have got off the ground. For my own part I’m very aware of the risk of trying to provide something different for the masses but I think the Dearne Playhouse does just that. The Theatre style venue is an enormous factor. Julie and Carl who manage the Playhouse Charity have allowed me to take a risk with the R&B events and seem pleased so far. Thank you all for coming along and look forward to seeing you again on Saturday 22nd June Mick TP Casey
