Part 1 - An introduction to Madrid

Well I think you can see from the snaps that we had a blast of a time in Madrid, nothing prepared us for the sheer beauty of this city. If you admire architecture Madrid delivers big time such stunning parks and a clean city which is well looked after add to that the friendliness of the community , and I mean the whole community not just our Spanish soul family , but everyone made us feel so welcome. We were picked up by Alber and taken to our hotel which was fifteen minutes from the "Sol" meaning the center of Madrid , It was a quiet leafy suburb with some charming cafes and restaurants close by. We chose to eat across the road in a traditional Spanish restaurant, we had our own personal chef who was delightful making sure he explained everything that was on the menu in English in order to help us make a choice. We had a fab meal washed down with very large measures of alcohol. By midnight I was too tired to contemplate going with the other guys to a friday night birthday party in the city center, so I retired whilst they partied on . Nige had a blast of a night , Alber constantly refilled his glass which eventually got the better of him causing him to dance the night away like a wild dervish again

We eased into Saturday by taking a morning coffee in a traditional tapas bar collected a few bits from the local shops for hotel snacks . One of the things I love about the Europe that is starts across the Chanel is that they still honor and support local produce, to see a bakery and fish monger proudly arranging their goods in such an attractive way , enticing you to buy, lets say it does not have the coldness of what we generally know as supermarket shopping , this type of shopping experience is a pleasure not a chore.

We went back to the hotel and met up Sean and Michelle and went back out for another coffee whilst they had breakfast and chatted about the exciting prospects of the day ahead and make plans for the weekend, we then returned to the hotel to meet up with the "Someday" team to be taken for a nice traditional lunch to meet the "In Crowd". It was lovely meeting up with Dani and the other guys seeing them unfold their massive banner in the hotel foyer with such pride , like it was a newborn child carrying so much hope for the future.

We were taken into Madrid to a fabulous street where there was an arty ambiance and a small market which had records and lots of really interesting objects of desire should you wish to take a memento home , we soaked up the retro vibe and skipped around with excitement clicking away like Japanese tourists .

We returned to the bar and had a few beers whilst the tables were rearranged to accommodate a large gathering. It was such a lovely vibe watching all these beautiful young well dressed well mannered young people , you could see that they were the best of friends by the sheer joy shown in their greetings. They made us feel like we were part of the Spanish soul family , they traveled from Valencia , Madrid , Barcelona , everywhere in Spain really.

We all broke bread together and formed a bond over a traditional Spanish meal , it was wonderful feeling privileged that we have been invited to witness the start of something really special in Spain , a coming together of souls and mods for the first gathering of a "mass" event .

Part 2 - Someday The event !

We had a good sleep in the evening to prepare us for the night ahead which started for us at 10.00 pm , the venue was in the next street , 5 mins from the hotel which was dead handy as Michelle and I needed that comforting fall back of a short walk back just in case we couldn't make it to 6am . The club is perfect , just the right size to fill around 500 , a good dance floor and plenty of seating , acoustically it was perfect. The only negative was that all drinks were five Euros each , that's soft drinks as well as shorts , mind you you do gain on the size of the measures of the shorts treble shots to our one so on balance its about right, if you are a spirit only drinker you are quids in

I would have to say the balance of type of sounds played was bob on and the crowd loved it . I can't remember the last time such a crowd was still assembled shouting for one more tune at the finishing line of 6am. The mix of Dj's was perfect in David Santiago supplying the 70's and crossover twist , Alber supplying the R&B , Sean and Nige supplying the 60's floor fillers and Dani supplying a very interesting underplayed cheapie set to start which many I had never heard of and then followed with his fave dancers later on. It was musically thrilling night which was evident by the sheer exuberance shown on that flloor all night long... to the finish

I could have just people watched all night , the sense of style and fashion was impeccable , 60's chic , countless twiggy dresses worn by girls with nice legs and flat tummy's to match  Not a high heel in the house, with the exception of one girl who was absolutely stunning in a deep red silk dress which twinkled like little stars as she moved , she was the spit of Betty Page , she had tattooed sleeves and had the black bob fringe Betty type hair and also held her pose with such elegance through best part of the night.

Another girl which I just could not stop watching dance was a very tall girl with afro hair styled hair , she looked fantastic in a knee length shirt dress and loafers , her dancing ability was just supreme , she held court on that floor and should have won the competition ... but being modest she didn't dance to the tunes when the selection process was taking place. She reminded me of a tall "Milly" actually  beautiful.

It was lovely to see a large UK crowd also present all loving the international journey.

I would recommend you try this event , it really does lift your soul seeing these younger people enjoy soul music in the way 99% once did in that being the innocent period when we weren't tainted by what box/genre it came in and the priority was having  fun with our mates and could we dance to its beat ?

Big thank you from the heart to Dani and Alber for looking after us so well and making us feel so welcome and appreciated. I am sure for the Djs on the night that this experience didn't feel like they were delivering a paid service in any way because the Spanish crowd are so accepting it made the effort expended 100% pleasure . In fact I don't believe anyone requested any tunes from any of the Dj's

I am sure we will see you again soon and when we do it will be with much affection because we are now soulfully attached

Have to agree with this, really enjoyed Madrid, great city and cracking food - great to catch up with our Spanish friends (albeit briefly) and only disappointed that I ran out of steam Sunday and missed the Real vs Valencia game.
