York Beat-cluB The Victoria Vaults, 47 - 49 Nunnery Lane, York YO23 1AB Resident DJ's: Jay Cee (Jason Chinnian) [There Was A Time / Flipside / The Waterfront Blues & Soul Club]. Guest DJ - Andy Bellwood [Whitby/Dumfries weekenders] Guest DJ - Jamie Walker Guest DJ - Stan (Manchester) 60's Mod Sounds, 60's Northern Soul & Motown, R&B, Popcorn & Rocksteady Beats all on original vinyl! 7pm - Midnight FREE ENTRY Door Tax The Beat Club: "The Beat Room" playing Mod 60's Northern Soul, 60's R&B, Rocksteady & Ska, 60's Popcorn. Original Vinyl Only Unfortunately, resident Jay Cee (Jason Chinnian). is unable to make this one but will be back at a later date. Situated in the stunning historic city of York The York Beat-club also takes you back in time. To a time of smart 3 button Italian styled suits, mini dresses and skirts, button-down collars and handmade shoes, knitted ties, cufflinks, tie pins and pocket handkerchiefs. A time of 'bob' or 'back-combed' hairstyles. Continental modes of transport in the form of Vespa's or Lambretta's or the British iconic Mini. The music was new and anti-establishment: cool, finger clicking and hip shaking modern jazz, or hard-hitting, earthy R&B, or pounding soul stompers hailing from across the pond or the more relaxed vibe of the islands to the south with those rocksteady ska beats. This is what The York Beat-club is all about. Plus a great compact venue, with a chill out beer garden, [mod band posters in the bar and a scooter hanging on the beer garden wall], that welcomes you with open arms and creates that cool 60's Mod Club vibe making you want to get up and shake ya thang. Good value drink prices for a city centre. Also, two NCP car parks are only 5 minutes walk from the venue. There's plenty to see and do: historic attractions, award-winning restaurants, good value accommodation and quality retail shopping therapy. So why not make a proper weekend of it. Echo really what everyone has said, fantastic weekender (unequalled in my opinion), great to meet up with lots of friends and of course to be asked back to play my records. I pondered long and hard as to what to play this year especially after the death of Simon Cuerdon. Twenty years I have known Simon, we went to the same masonic lodge, same scooter clubs and we went to the same all-nighters together. My last all-nighter with Simon was in March at Swinton in Manchester for Simon's charity Blesma. The set I played on Saturday night in the market place was more or less the same set I played that night, although an all-nighter set and aimed at a specific audience I thought it would be fitting to play it out at Whitby as myself and Simon would come to Whitby in the early days for the Saturday all-nighters. Thanks to everyone for the kind comments and to Graham for the sketch.
