  1. Been going to this for a while now; since the demise of Solid Hit Soul. And have to say it's just getting better and better. It's a strange venue; it's literally just a pub, where they push back the tables to create a dancefloor. But I guess that's part of the attraction; it's got no glamour whatsoever, and it's definitely not pretentious. But what it has got is an up for it and appreciative clientele. Oh, and an excellent selection of craft beer at normal pub prices helps too Absolutely baking in their last night - it was like getting off an airplane in Singapore. So flip flops and shorts required next time Pete
  2. A great talent indeed, and a breath of fresh air back in the early 90s. And only 51.
  3. Jo Ann Garrett's version for me. What a voice.
  4. Great set Phil; thanks for posting it up. Lots to ponder over there, and that's what great about SHS - it's not the same old thing. Best wishes Pete
  5. As I got on the train to London Bridge I did wonder whether I was mad to pop up there knowing that I would only be able to stay for an hour or so, but really glad that I made the effort. Great sounds in a great location, but god was it hot! Quite a few different faces there last nite and would be interested to see what they made it. Going to miss the August one as I'm away but already looking forward to October 21st!
  6. Agree with all of the comments above. Its the consistent emphasis on quality - unparalleled.
  7. Yep, brilliant nite. Great sets; "another excellent record" was the most uttered phrase of the nite And packed to the rafters too
  8. Just polished my shoes; can't wait Got to say, Rob Smith's set last time was right on the money. Can it be bettered?
  9. Going to have to miss this one - third one in the row Good luck guys. And hope the toilets smell a bit better than when I was in there a couple of weeks ago.
  10. Not going to make this one; infact second one in a row that I will have missed Have a good one. Any plans for 2011?
  11. Planning to come over from Beckenham for this one, and stay over so that I can have a drink for a change Any chance of you reconsidering the decision to bring the curtains down? Moving to a couple of dos per year perhaps?
  12. Going to miss this one, will be 'enjoying' the rain in Devon Good luck, and hope its not too warm an evening. Was over in The Alma a couple of weeks back and they had a young female dj playing ska and rocksteady. Nice set, at least early on.. hear it went downhill slightly later on (Skinhead Moonstomp ). But it was bloody warm in there, and there was only about 20 in! Given the numbers in Feb/Mar(?) it could be a hot night - better wear your shorts Have a great nite and make sure you get another one in before Christmas..
  13. First opportunity to post in a while. Just to reiterate EssexEagle's views. It's a great venue with some class sounds. Well worth the 100 mile round drive IMHO. And while I couldn't make last Saturday I'll be there in September, and July if you decide to reinstate it.
  14. Going to be interesting on a hot summer night! Can you get them to lay a new dancefloor just prior to the next one
  15. Packed to the rafters! And tbh, probably a bit too packed for my liking; must have been minting it behind the bar.
