  7. A perfect example of the extended live version and why sometimes you can’t beat the live experience.
  8. It was Steve Cato who played it. I've always liked Terry Reid's stuff going back to The Hand Don't Fit The Glove. An interesting but surprising spin which got the dancefloor busy.
  9. I guess it's got a Mod, Psych feel with the Hammond Organ fills but aimed at a rock/pop audience when released I'd say. A floorfiller at the night I attended so similar to things like Babe Ruth, Julien Covey etc which were popular in the mid 7ts.
  10. This got played on Thursday at a soul night in Brixton. I’ve never heard it played out at a soul night before and it was a popular spin, filling the dance floor although I was surprised to hear it and did wonder to myself how many knew the artist and song as it’s quite an obscure 45 being demo only 45 in the U.K. I knew it from a Mickey Most mfp compilation which was in my parents small collection of vinyl LP’s when I was a youngster around 1971. Anyone else heard it played out before or any other DJ’s playing this? It’s a great track from a very respected U.K artist but a surprising spin as said.
  11. There’s also this in London tomorrow :- https://www.skiddle.com/whats-on/London/Festival-Pier/MODCAST-SUMMER-BOAT-/36298007/
  12. If you like live music, I can also recommend this event tomorrow in Highgate which is on the Northern Line ( High Barnet branch ). By coincidence the promoter of Chez 66 is also DJing at this event so expect some northern, RnB. The other DJ’s play Soul and RnB too. The Arlenes are an Americana band.
  13. This is a decent event on today in the heart of Soho. https://www.wegottickets.com/event/567840

  15. Thanks. Melody similar to Willie Cobbs - You Don’t Love Me.
  16. Great song. Strangely no reference to it in DFTMC. According to the blurb I’ve read on a couple of sales sites it’s previously unreleased on vinyl. Seems to have been unearthed for the Motown Unreleased series which I remember trawling through on Spotify a few years back but this track must have eluded me or didn’t resonate then. Definitely one for the collection.
  17. Re listed and reduced. I have a spare for sale reduced from £30 to £25.00 plus £3.50 first class signed for to the UK. Condition is mint unplayed. if interested please pm me. Bank transfer preferred but can do PayPal F&F or add 4% Thanks for looking.
  18. Ady posted on Facebook that due to a mix up, the anniversary singles were left at Ace’s warehouse/ offices ( he thought they were in some boxes he took home a few months ago ) and therefore he was unable to take them on Saturday and so will post them or attendees can collect them at the next 6ts events. Got the impression therefore that the tracks on the single are not widely known. I think that’s correct. Apologies if not.
  19. Couple for sale. Bank transfer preferred. PayPal friends and family or add 4%. Postage £3.50 first class signed for to UK only. 1. Bobby Harden & The Soulful Saints - Feels So Good / Wounded Hearts - mint unplayed - £30.00 2. Temptations - Girl (Why You Wanna Make Me Blue / Baby Baby I Need You - Gordy wedge label - couple of minor scuffs and light marks which do not affect play - £10.00 PM if interested. Thanks for looking.
  20. I’m not sure Mike. I read it that songwriters and publishers, who make their money collecting and distributing the royalties ( modern publishing contracts usually give the songwriter/s at least 50 % ) receive royalties from these recreations. The performers or artists as opposed to songwriters need to ensure they get a songwriting credit if they were involved in the composition of the song and their name on the publishing contract. Otherwise they don’t get paid except a session fee and for live performances. That’s my understanding but I’m not a music biz expert although I did have a publishing contract with Heath Levy music ( long expired I imagine ) and am a joint composition copyright owner of a number of songs nobody has any interest in hearing let alone recreating
  21. The article confirms that the songwriter and publisher ie the “composition copyright owner”, have to give permission for any interpolating and also receive royalties from any use of their music. Who really cares if the owner of the “master recording copyright” ( ie the record label - often a corporate with no involvement in the creative process) don’t benefit. They had their cut from the original recording and can continue to receive income from reissues if there’s a market for them. It’s just a point of view.
  22. I’d guess he was born in St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington. It’s where my granddaughter was born. At the time my daughter and son in law were living in Queens Park, NW6 and St Mary’s was the nearest maternity hospital. Just musings really and I could be completely wide of the mark . The Action were a good band. I first came across them when I heard “Baby You’ve Got It” on the My Generation compilation which EMI put out in about 1976. I always kick myself for not buying that 45 when I found it on a market stall - £7.00 I seem to remember. This was about 25 yrs ago. I didn’t have the cash on me at the time and didn’t bother finding a cash machine as I had my two Kids with me. Of course, when I went back the next week, the seller’s stall had gone!
