  1. The Soul Brew DJs will be spinning the vinyl - along with Stuart Arber (Crigg Soul Club) - for our very first event in our new home. I'm SO looking forward to it - can't wait! I've been a regular at so many storming soul nights at The Harold it's going to feel like I've come home! The Harold Club's got it all - a friendly atmosphere - top-notch dance floor (sorry no talc allowed, but the floor's so good it really doesn't need it!) It's very easy to find on the main road, with a large car park - good transport links & the bar prices are at WMC rates! What more could we ask? Soul Brew have only just gone public with the news that we are moving our events to The Harold, but the response we've had from everyone is all very positive - so far, it's massive thumbs up all round! Hope to see you on the dance floor
  2. Well, there's only one more sleep until our last night at The George - have to say I've got mixed feelings! On the one hand all of us at Soul Brew will be very sad to say goodbye to the lovely Mead Hall, but also looking forward to setting up at our cracking new venue. On Saturday 18th May we have a one-off joint event planned with Motor City Soul Club at Halifax Irish Centre, when our guest DJ will be Lucy Brennan (from The Time Tunnel, Dublin). Have to say I'm really looking forward to that one! More info about that on Soul Source events page. Then Friday 21st June will see Soul Brew setting up for our first event at our new venue - The Harold Club, Low Moor, Bradford! We've only very recently gone public with the news, but so far, we've had lots of very positive feedback from our friends on the soul scene about our new venture. I've been a regular at Harold soul nights for so long it'll feel a bit like going home for me! Onwards & upwards as they say! See you on the dance floor......
  3. OK - bit of a story behind this one. Soul Brew had a fantastic DJ booked (Lucy Brennan from The Time Tunnel, Dublin) for the weekend 18th May, but unfortunately without warning, the venue suddenly pulled the plug on us! We couldn't possibly let this opportunity go as Lucy has booked her flight & hotel accommodation for the weekend. Sooooo....Soul Brew have got together with our mates at Motor City Soul Club to put on a one-off event at Halifax Irish Centre! Two local Soul Clubs will be joining together to put on a cracking night not to be missed - there will be a great line up of DJs playing some storming tunes!! After this one-off special, Motor City will be back to their usual third Sunday of every month events & Soul Brew will be taking up residence at their NEW VENUE - The Harold Club in Low Moor, Bradford. Their first event at The Harold will be on Friday 21st June - another night not to be missed! Isn't it great to see good mates working together? Can't beat it can you? See you on the dance floor folks!
  4. We were very happy at the George & we'll all be very sad to say goodbye to it, but these things happen . I can't really say too much just yet, but Soul Brew have plans........one door closes & another opens as they say..........all I can say is let's make our last night at The George a cracker & watch this space......
  5. Local author John Knight will be joining us for our last night at The George. He will be bringing with him a selection of signed copies of his Jimmy Mack novels - all based on the life of a young 1960s Mod. I can promise you an excellent read! "The series celebrates the swinging Sixties, with a detailed look at life in 1960s Britain. Set in the fashion industry of the time, it explores the impact that it had on life. Multi-faceted themes explore societal change, politics, the power of the establishment, the class divide, the sexual revolution, religion, crime, and much more through an existentialist eye. As in all the previous novels, there is a soundtrack. Each chapter is prefaced with a recording that lends itself thematically to the written words and acts as a backdrop to the content."
  6. It'll be very sad to say goodbye to The George - we've had some cracking nights there, but all good things come to an end! Can't really say too much at the mo, but we have plans so watch this space!
  7. Sadly, this will be our last night at The George so let's make it a cracker!
  8. Thanks for sharing - very interesting read.
  9. My first all-nighter was at The Golden Disc in Keighley (aged 15 - my parents would have killed me if they'd known!) Also tried Blackpool Mecca, The Birdtrap, Lord Jim's, Plebs (Halifax) & String o' Beads (Bradford) but mostly it was The Wheel (Whitworth St) for me & then either The Blue Note or Top 20 on a Sunday morning - I was there pretty much every weekend without fail from 1966-1970. Fab times & I'd love to turn back the clock & do it all again!
  10. Glad you had a good night Rob - it's always great to hear some new tunes!
  11. You absolutely nailed it on your last visit Mopsey!
  12. It'll be great to see you at The George again Mopsey - looking forward to it xx
  13. I've just watched Doing Money on bbc iplayer - from 2018 I think, so not a new drama - but I've only just found it. A true story that makes for compulsive viewing - very well-acted but also extremely sad, disturbing & thought-provoking. Well worth watching.
