  2. I may have to re-think my boast of having a go at dancing to any dam thing they play at a venue. Not that my feet couldn't move to it...just don't think my ears and what's left of my brain could stand it again
  3. Cant believe this is walking distance from me - only just spotted it Any chance of one ticket please? Had a text back from Phil Cheers - see you all there
  4. I may stroll along to this Was looking at Manchester - but those roadworks - who needs it when you've a line up like this on the doorstep Hey Kenny I think I have Consumption - does Claudette's Rum really help? would she spare some for an old mate mate
  5. Managed to keep myself out of the photos now no one knows I was there - ah opps Still don't understand how I never won anything on the raffle
  6. I remember it like it was yesterday. Twas a Good Night indeed - I may even go again
  7. Looking forward to this. Was elsewhere for the last one Hoping to be there earlier than I was for Whitchurch lol
  8. Although I originate from Wednesfield Wolverhampton I do now live in Telford. I was also in Telford for some of the time period talked about. Came over around late 79 when mom left Dad so for a while I lived both places. Was working at Greenhous Telford and had been travelling to various Soul events (including Wigan) mostly on my own until one girl realised what I was doing and started to scrounge a lift with a few of her mates. Can't remember anyone's name unfortunately, I know she lived not far from Finger Road Garage Dawley. I used to collect and drop people off various places including, Sutton Hill, Woodside and Madeley. Should anyone remember grabbing a lift in a clapped out Viva with a lunatic driver chances are that was me. I don't usually admit to being around Telford at the end of Wigan because I refused to go to the very last one - after going and being told it wasn't really the end I thought they were taking the P so didn't go to the real last night, hence I guess the people hoping for a lift may not have made it there because of me. Hope enough water has gone under the bridge and I am forgiven After '81 Also remember a few people grabbing lifts back from the Top Of The World - funny I seem to recollect giving more people lifts back than I took - must have made their own way there and jumped in with mates on the way back. All a long time ago now. After that I travelled around pretty much on my own since my wife wasn't into Northern and wasn't happy about me being an unpaid taxi - never mind the crazy hours I was away
  9. Understood and appreciated. I will concur that DJ's should have free reign to play both what they want and/or what the dancers on the floor want. It's no secret that I like oldies. I still think I am in the groove but I am not stuck in a rut
  10. Hi Bazza Are you suggesting that the likes of; Ginger Taylor, Chris King, Dave Evison and Soul Sam will be playing "over played tripe" this time then? I realise that there is a KR connection at this venue and I do have to get that off my conscience when I attend. The odd track played two or three times in a nighter has never bothered me before and I don't suppose it will next time - should it happen Anyway hope you, Reg and others that stay away have an enjoyable evening whatever you do, while the rest of us suffer the "over played tripe"
  11. Did we get the full response to Wass's question? Are many dancers going, or thinking of going, to this event? Not that I mind being amongst DJ's - just as long as they don't take up space on the dance floor chatting about the colour of record labels, makers of Stylus (or is that Stylii) or the virtues of one recording studio over another in April 1963 Well they are quite welcome to do that I suppose, just that I am such a bad dancer I worry about knocking them over like skittles...... Only joking, I know all these DJ's can out-dance me easily and there is no way I could do the tremendous job they do behind those decks
  12. Apart from hearing about Carl's heart attack, this was a really enjoyable day. Good to catch up with a few people and dance to some superb tracks. Really enjoyed chilling out downstairs whilst listening to some excellent choices from Coops too, not that I am geting old, just that it was so darn hot - ok I admit maybe part of the sit down might have been age related The Main room dance floor is a massive improvement so now I am really struggling to find anything to whinge about Soulchick was happy that she could bring the ankle-biters; Soulchick Junior and Harry, who stayed until quite late. Thier first proper Northern Soul event also had free pizza and the chance to run around like mad fools with the other children, this should be a memory for them both to treasure. Shame to have to leave so early but we didn't think it right for them to stay too late - especially when the Main room became busier later on in the evening. Thank you to all of the dancers who were careful not to trample them underfoot earlier in the day
  13. Have already posted best wishes for Carl's recovery elsewhere but would like to add them here too Didn't find out until the Saturday All-Dayer that Carl Piper had this heart attack. Would like to personally wish him well. Hope he is back to fighting fitness soon and once again able to demonstrate how good a dancer he is and how acrobatics can be done. Keep smiling and big thumbs up for quicker recovery Carl.
  14. Ah yes, a certain little news flash item which seems to have stirred a few comments I guess? I may take a little time but I usually do get there in the end....
  15. Hi Suzy Apologies if I spoke out of turn? Didn't realise it was supposed to be a secret - seemed to be a general topic of conversation
