  1. Absolutely one of the kindest people we ever had the good fortune to meet on the northern scene.He just had this calming effect on you when he spoke to you,and so genuine.How very sad to hear of his passing. Sue and Chris Holmes

  4. Sorry,didnt know how to correct the error I made on me post,so here it is a bit more legible. Had an excellant night on Saturday.The good attendance and music played created a fabulous atmosphere. Well done Tony and Tracy,and I hope Chris did the business for you. Chris has asked me to pass on his sincere appreciation to everyone for the welcome and support that he was given during his DJ spot. He was,initially,a "tad" anxious,as his interest in buying/collecting sounds has waned considerably over the last few years,and he was cocerned about having nothing "new" or "fresh" in his huge collection to play to people. I know that anxiety soon vanished once he started his set and he kept the dance floor busy.So much so,he was happy to keep carrying on regardless,at the end of his spot. I just personally want to say THANK YOU to Tony and Tracy for their unconditional respect and appreciation given to Chris for his (many)years and input on the scene ,as that went a long way to giving him the encouragement to unlock his collection from the "archives" and give them a deserved hearing again. Soo Holmes His playlist has been requested,so,in no particular order, heres what he played := Roy Hamilton You Shook Me Up {RCA} Jimmy Ellidge Sad Town {Soundtown} {request} Diane Pane What Side Your Bread Is Buttered On {Logo] Jimmey Soul Clark I'll Be Your Winner {Soulhawk} The Incredibles Miss Treatment {Audio Arts} The Drapers (I Know)Your Love Has Gone Away {Gee Records} Patience Valentine Unlucky Girl {Sar} Larry Davis I've Been Hurt So Many Times {Kent} Jerry Tiffe Hey Watcha' Doin {Scepter} The Dynamics You Make Me Feel Good {RCA Victor} {request} Gordon Keith Look Ahead {Calumet} Lovemasters Pushin' and Pullin' {Jacklyn} Reatha rees Only Lies {Dot} {request} Gwen Davis My Man Dont Think I know {Sound stage} Geraldine Hunt Winner Take All {ABC} Cresa Watson Salvation {Charay} Tobi Lark Sweep It Out In The Shed {Topper} Lilly Fields I've Got To Tell You {Holton} The Vows Tell Me [VIP } The Friendly People I Aint Got Nothing But The Blues {VMP} The Incredibles I Found Another Love {Audio Arts} Patience Valentine If You Dont Come {Sar} Four Tops I Like Everything About You {Motown} Carol and Gerri How Can I Ever Find The Way {M.G.M} John Drevar's Expression The Closer She Gets {UK M.G.M ISSUE } {the little beaut--request} Mark Lloyd When I'm Gonna Find Her {Parlaphone} The Enticers Calling For Your Love {Atlantic} Sherri Taylor He's The One That Rings My Bell {Gloreco}

  7. Well,by jove,T n T,ya persistance has paid off,AT LAST.You have been asking him for the last two years,mind you.WELL DONE.Its like you say,"a quality collection", but it NEVER see's the "light of day".I myself, thinks it a shame that his collection is locked away and gathering dust instead of being played and appreciated. Speaking of his U.K. collection,theres just one request I am personally going to ask of him, and thats to play his JOHN DREVARS for me. I know its from "the days of yore",but its one of my favouritest sounds. Looking very forward to the night,as I always do at York Soul Night. Yours faithfully Soo Holmes xxxxxxx
  8. Ps,I almost forgot.......Mr n Mrs T 'n'T....Wots happened to ya YORK SOUL CLUB.com site,chux? It keeps coming up as a HOLIDAY TRAVEL "SITE". I thought it was mebbe incognito!!as such or in code, so I tapped a few topics up expecting to see foty's,info etc, but to no avail. Theres obviously a prob with it,but at least it aint come up as a" porno" site or a "crochet members club" site. Soo H
  9. Looking forward to this nite,as always, and to celebrate the better half's (Chris's) birthday,also, as this is one of his favourite venues,so where better to party at. Luv Soo Holmes
  10. The record Chris Holmes is pointing to is FRANK BEVERLEY/IF THATS WHAT YOU WANTED (WHITE SASSY DEMO). We have that copy of Blues and Soul,also,somewhere among the many shelves full of "old"soul mags. (Mrs) Sue  Holmes
  11. Thank you to Christine Ullah for ringing me with the heartbreaking news about Gary. Such a gentle,kindly man,who didnt deserve to suffer like he has done,over the recent past. Chris and I (Sue) send our utmost sympathies to his family and close friends. Sue and Chris Holmes
  12. Got a pile of these mags stashed away in a cupboard with shelves full of all the old BLUES and SOULS, BLACK Echoes,and many of the other old soul mags, doing the rounds at the time. Wish I knew how to transfer the R SOUL mags onto computer,they were funny,naughty,tongue in cheek and a delight to read on the way home from a nighter. I always thought the 'cheeky' Roger Banks had summat to do with these mags,also. Soo Holmes
  13. Only just seen this topic and watched the 2 YOU TUBE clips.....WOW! such stunningly, bewtiful voices,made the hairs on me arms stand on end.Found it quite emotional,also, and wept with sadness to watch the 2 singers having to busk on the streets to make ends meet, I presume. Fanx for putting this on Soul source,as I'm not a avid computer buff,and have never ventured on to YOU TUBE,so would never have seen this. Soo Holmes
  14. Chalky,just gotta tell you,that the JAMES MARTIN (hope I got artist right)acetate,you played,was chuffing brilliant. I sent Chris over to check it out,cos its bin a long time since I've loved a sound so much,on 1st time hearing. Soo H
  15. Had the MOST EXCELLANT nite at York,with some greatmates and good fun with Mrs Bird,as always. Colin,you "BUTTERED MY TOAST' with your spot, loved it,but my little toes didnt,they were near to "bleeding' by time I'd finished dancing to nearly the whole of your spot. Well done,matey. Lotsa luv Soo H
