Fair? Unfair

The vinyl on the record looks fine. I played it and it sounds great. Trouble is, there's a one-inch hairline crack in the record. You can only hear it in the opening grooves. I was told that this is a FAIR record, despite the fact  that it plays fine.

I may have seen a few similar items being posted for sale here and there, but not many. What should I do? I don't care for the record and would like to put it out there, but I think 'fair' would scare some people off...and like I said, the record plays just fine. Thanks in advance for any input.

The description you've given here surpasses any one-word grading in terms of accuracy. You could give a play grade and ensure that all relevant info re the hairline is included and is VERY obvious. A sound clip would of course help too.

Others that sell frequently may offer different or better advice. I'm stating what I would be happy with as a potential buyer. Good luck.

The top photo is the best pic I could take of the crack. Second photo is that of the record in its entirety.  Don't know how to do sound bites, but I did play it, and it's only audible in the opening grooves.

If the record is cracked then this characteristic defines the grading and is the most important factor that would induce a buyer to pay a discounted sum for it. By all means, describe the vinyl in accurate terms but highlight the fact that it's cracked. If the price is right, someone will buy it.

Someone may well buy it to play it if the price is low enough , but a crack half way across the disc like that one renders the record as Fair as far as a collector is concerned regardless of whether it "plays fine" , and the price should reflect that.
