"Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um" was written by Curtis Mayfield, recorded by Major Lance and produced by Okeh label president Carl Davis. It was released as a single in December 1963 and was Major Lance's third release to make the Billboard Hot 100. "Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um" was his most successful hit peaking at #5 on the Hot 100 in February 1964 and reaching #1 on the Cash Box R&B chart. In 2011, the original Major Lance recording was used in a television commercial for Kraft mozzarella cheese.
Thanks Mike, what a joy. I'm lead singer of the Servicemen. A group I had in Paris, 1960, appeared on a show with Bobby Blue Bland, only about a year or so after he recorded "Bobby, Little Boy Blue". Brings back memories for me.
Great memories, saw Graham Central Station in Manchester on the Warner Bros showcase tour that included Tower of Power and the Doobie Bros, last minute decision to go to the first night got free tickets from Warner Bros outside the Free Trade Hall, five rows from the front, Cheers for posting
