"Only the Strong Survive" is a 1968 song by Jerry Butler, released on his album "The Ice Man Cometh". It was the most successful single of his career, reaching #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was #1 for two weeks on the Billboard Black Singles Chart, in March and April 1969, respectively. Jerry Butler s an American soul singer and songwriter. He is also noted as being the original lead singer of the famed R&B vocal group, The Impressions, as well as a 1991 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. He also serves as a Commissioner for Cook County, Illinois, having first been elected in 1985. As a member of this 17-member county board, he chairs the Health and Hospitals Committee, and serves as Vice Chair of the Construction Committee.
Sorry only come across your comment...I did read some where that he retired from performing and devoted his life to the church...becoming a preacher then Bishop? Does say on the net that he has recorded Gospel Music on small independent/personal labels....will try and find the links for you :-)
