Soulfulsolutions
Here’s a cracker up for grabs, an understated mid 70s dancer with happy mood written all over it…. PM any questions or to reserve. Young Devines – Ain’t that sharp – Note 7215 Ex- £450 This small Atlanta, Georgia label was owned by Jesse Jones, and a sister label to his other enterprises, Tragar and Super Sound Inc. both known on the scene for bringing us fabulous music from artists like Tee Fletcher, Sonia Ross, Eula Cooper and others. Jesse Jones had his wits about him, choosing the renowned FAME studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama for the centre of excellence of many of his label’s recordings. This outstanding track rides along on a wave of tight musical arrangement, upbeat vocals and slick harmonies, fronted by the joyous lead Donald Render, with crisp sweet backing from John Dawson and John Jones allowing the unmistakable deep bass punctuations of Jimmy Robertson to take us to new heights. This is pure genius, a masterclass, but what else should we expect from any group signed and guided by the astute Jones. A label misspelling of the group’s name on the first issue 7215 was enough for the promotional team to quickly release 7216, this time with a different flip moving away from the instrumental and including “Do it the right way”. The top side has a few light marks that cause light feedback on the intro, but it clears quickly as the vocals break in, overall Ex minus. Labels are off white.
