Soulfulsolutions
Gorgeous collection of top Northern tunes, ripe for the deck or just to keep in your box to stare at. Happy to provide additional images and sound files. PM any questions or to reserve. Gene Townsel – Mr. Boon Tang – Ah-La-Vi 3160 M- £500 (Superb crossover, very much under the radar, just need a push in the right rooms. Feint edge lift, DNAP) Herb Ward – Strange change – Argo 5510 DJ Ex+ £850 (To all intents it’s a Philly release, both sides written by the talented team that had interest in numerous Jimmy Bishop Arctic label recordings but released nationally by Chess on the Argo imprint. Proper Northern oldie on a cool DJ copy) Kenny Carlton – Lost and found – Blue Rock 4054 Ex+ £650 SOLD (Van McCoy, that’s all I need to say, the girly backing seals the deal for me, just brilliant, and flip that’s still to have its day. Lovely copy) Universal Minds – A chance at love / I betcha’ – Charles 1229 Ex+ £200 (I think the label is related to Charles Hodges, who recorded on NYs Genuine Records, as did the amazing Mr Soul / Al Scott. All labels point to Mac Avery Music publishing company. 2 cracking sides, ‘A chance’ is strong crossover, and ‘Betcha’ a grower on the low rider scene) September Jones – I’m coming home / No more love – Kapp 802 M- £550 (2 gorgeous Pied Piper productions on one slab of plastic, a sign of pure class. Doesn’t come in any better format than on a black stock copy….. maybe the Canadian issue! Light label wear. Like all the biggies on national labels, it’s tougher to find them on black stockers, plenty of example Earl Jackson & Trends on ABC, Adams Apples & Demures on Brunswick, Lee Roye & Manny Corchado on Decca, and almost all the best RCAs!) Larry Davis – I’ve been hurt so many times – Kent 4519 Promo M- £250 SOLD (Fabulous copy of this self-written, R&B influenced dancer, quite sought after looking at past sales. Most I’ve seen are in lesser grades) Tony Middleton – Paris blues – Mala 544 Ex+ £750 SOLD (What a voice, famous for multiple forays into Northern Soul, this one probably sits at the top. Presented on a lovely blue stock copy. Couple of very light lines that do not affect play, and a drill hole on label) J.J. Barnes – Our love is in the pocket – Revilot 222 Ex+ £300 (Gorgeous on the coloured label issue. Another top artist and another harder to find format) Jimmy (Soul) Clark - Sweet darlin’ - Soul Hawk 001 Ex+ £150 (Detroit class, never fails to lift a listener. Red label but with SILVER text, minor edge lift does not affect play) High Keys – Living a lie – Verve 10423 DJ Ex £500 (One of those that get the hairs up straight away, distinctive vocals on this big city dancer, and let’s not forget the awesome flip “Lets take a chance”) Bobby St. James – I’ve been taken for a ride – Watts 901 Ex+ £300 (Lovely west coast double sider with the excellent flip “The sun don’t shine”, where it don’t shine I never asked…..) PayPal by friends please or add 4%, or bank transfer. Postage: £7.65 – Special Delivery (Fully insured up to £750) £8.65 – Special Delivery (Fully insured up to £1000) Overseas on Request ATB, Lee Edited June 27, 2023 by Soulfulsolutions Link to comment Social source share
