Ken started this event a few years back in memory of his wife and our well loved friend Heather.
He's raised many, many thousands of pounds now for a wonderful cancer charity local to Cardiff (Velindre) with every DJ doing their best - always free of charge.
The event itself held at the Pontyclun athletic club, with a cheap bar, great sunken dancefloor, plenty of seating a large car park and everything you need for a wonderful event.
Close to a sell out last night and usually there are no tickets left months before, a busy dancefloor and happy dancers, floortappers, chin strokers and bar talkers.
A good spread of local and not so local DJs from ~Wales, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Bristol, always authentic original vinyl and some absolute monster sounds that would grace any collectors collection.
What an absolute treat this event is, please keep it going Ken! -

"Oh WHAT a night" Steaming Hot, doesn't come close to last night at Ashton Ukrainian Club!!
Amazing and varied sets from ALL the DJs , a flying visit from the ever dependable Phil Dunn to get the night underway.
Really enjoyed Stephen Morgan set kicking off with Les McCann mean and moody "sad little girl" Mecca Memories with Little Rena Scott, Bettye Swann "when the game is played on you" and many more gems, which hit the spot with the dancefloor.
Preston's Gis Southworth came primed and ready with his trusty box of 45s and an array of Head Gear and Moustaches, brilliant!!
Great tracks from Vi Campbell, Gerri Hall, Lenny Curtis, Harry Starr all gratefully accepted by an appreciative crowd!!
Simon Ingham never fails to deliver Celebrities "I choose you" Hayes Cotton "I'll be waiting" Hopkins Brothers, tune after tune WOWSER!!
Next up Andrew Dyson United Sounds "it's all over" New Sounds "don't take your love" sounding really fresh all over again Eddie Billups "ask my heart" just amazing!!
Ashton OG Chris Churm AKA "The Finisher" absolutely smashed it, maybe record of the night JD Abram "let me tell you what I want" David Coleman "drown my heart" captured the moment perfectly!!
Ashton Faithful and again some more first timers, eager to see what we're about, take a bow!!
Considering the warm summer nights and competition, you did us proud, turning up in numbers.
Team Ukrainian Salutes you, lots of pics and videos out there already, attached a small snippet, including Stu Cheetham Fan and Hand Bag Dancing, priceless !!
We welcome The Man from the DAB weekenders Chris Anderton next month, fuller details, coming real soon, on here, Soul-Source and Instagram !!

Radcliffe & District Soul Club (Formally The Shirt Club)
Radcliffe & District Soul Club (Formally The Shirt Club)
Goodbye to The Shirt, hello to St Mary's Catholic Social Club the new home of the renamed Radcliffe & District Soul Club. I always liked The Shirt with the exception of the stairs but it was time for a move. And in my opinion St Mary's is a better venue with a larger dance floor and better seating. Of course many of us will remember it as the home of the K&D Soul Club, run by Keiron Woodward and Diane R Parry, a very nice club, I even did a set there. I'd say the only downside to the venue is that it isn't easy parking.
We arrived to be greeted by Bob Spendlove looking good after his Spanish sojourn. Sam McConnell the first guest was on the decks. Good to see him, back from Thailand for a short visit, he's been missed by his friends. Sam likes uptempo tracks and he included the Mamselles' Open Up Your Heart plus R&B records like ZZ Hill's You Were Wrong and Lenny Johnson's Am I Still Your Fool, both of which I didn't know. Luckily Sandra, who knows her R&B recognised them.
Regular DJ Dave Cartlidge was unavailable so Dave Flint substituted for him. While Sandra has known him for years I only made his acquaintance a few months ago, a nice guy with phenomenal good taste musically. He got me out on the floor when he played Something About My Baby by The Sweets and followed it with Willie Kendricks' version of What's That On Your Finger.
Second guest Bernard Lowe took over from Dave continuing good soul music, including Almeta Latimore's These Memories, Sweep It Under The Shed, Tobi Lark's version I presume, Cajun Hart's Got To Find A Way, and It's Better by Reggie Alexander.
Bob followed Bernard and kept us on our feet with tunes like That's Why I Love You and Sweet Memories. He was then joined by Sam McConnell for a double decking finale to the night, I remember Sam playing the Floyd James version of Green Onions.
There were a good number in, that is good for the first night at a new venue, including some folk I'd not seen for a while at The Shirt, plus some newies.
Now looking forward to the next episode which is on Friday 5 September. My thanks to the DJs and to the staff of St Mary's. -

Matt,
Well done to Ken for getting this wonderful event on the road for such a good cause. Also for Mozz and his sound system. The djs did us all proud and the dancefloor was buzzing. It was great to see so many top Soul people enjoying the night. The music was refreshing and diverse added to with some great oldies, something for everyone. The dancefloor was great to dance on, which makes a big difference with old limbs like mine! Many thanks, well worth a trip over the Severn Bridge๐๐ฅ

Soul Brew at The Harold Club
Soul Brew at The Harold Club
Morning all - Kath here with a bit of feedback from last night at The Harold. IT WAS BLOODY FAB!!!๐
By the time we officially opened the doors at 8pm, we already had 40+ people in the room, so we were clearly in for another busy night.
Thanks & well done to DJs Steve Yendley, plus guest DJs Mick Glover & Dean Webb - you all played storming spots & the feedback I heard from around the room was all really good.
Thanks too to the hardworking bar staff - as usual we kept you busy, but you always managed to serve everyone with a big smile - well done girls!๐๐
Last but by no means least - a massive thanks to all who turned out to support us! We couldn't do it without you - hope you can make it to join us at The Harold on Friday 19th Sept, when Shaun Callon (Blackburn Oldies & Hazel Grove) will be taking to the Soul Brew decks to spin some of those cracking tunes from the 1960s.๐ -
Aberdeen Beach Ballroom Weekender
Aberdeen Beach Ballroom Weekender
Matt,
Many thanks to Steve, Colin and Tom for promoting this a great weekender and playing some great tunes. Also to the Aberdeen Northern Soul Club who made us all so welcome. The Beachballroom is such a wonderful venue to hear the music we all love, it is truly wonderful. The architecture alone of the building is amazing and the sound system was top draw. It was great to hear so many great tunes from a variety of Dj's (me not included!) and to see so many great dancers. On top of this Tom took us for a guided tour of Aberdeen, thanks so much!
Hopefully there will be more events in the future, but to all who were involved, go to the top of the class! -

Ow31,
A quiet thread doesn't mean the event will be a damp squib. First visit for us and we had a very warm welcome from the organizer.
The pub has a well stocked bar with various snacks, the outside space has ample tables and chairs, not forgetting to mention a great mix of tunes from all of the DJs.
