  1. Anyone see that Bobby Mac - Shy Guy on ebay last night?

I thought I'd have a crack at it so I set a snipe up over $350.

As the day prgressed I started wondering about it and eventually asked the seller if it was the reissue and he confirmed it was.

Guess who forgot to cancel their snipe bid and won it at $288?

    wanker.gif

    Oh 'eck.

So I wonder who the extremely lucky 2nd bidder was?

I know who the $3.50 first bidder was whistling.gif

  2. One thing to be wary of though when sending as a gift, is that neither Buyer or Seller are covered by the Paypal Protection policies as by gifting money, it's deemed that nothing is being bought/sold.

I have always preferred the "add 4%" approach or even better, the "split 2% between buyer and seller. As it's the convenient method of payment for both.

  3. Thanks Sebastian.

Not sure why this ZTSC number crossed out,

or whether it appears with earlier Chess Label for this release.

Yeh, the Billy Stewart was pressed on the earlier black label.... https://cgi.ebay.co.u...44708031&_rdc=1

Edit: Looks as though it's etched in though on that photo (having looked again).

So we have established that Pete's Tony Clarke is a 1st Reissue Stereo Original Boot then laugh.gif

Great this here Northern Soul record collecting innit?

  4. No it wasn't new but it wasn't popular and widespread until the end of the decade, for singles I mean.

No, I wouldn't disagree with that. Was just pointing out that I wouldn't have thought that Stereo was the reason that they would decide to do another run on the mastering/presses. More likely that they thought it would go big beforehand and had multiple runs done nationally. Giving rise to the possibility that it might well be mastered and pressed in Stereo. Assuming of course that the recording was done in Stereo, which it must have been. Checker and Cadet had already released Stereo singles by then.

Of course this could all be b*llocks, but it makes sense to me !! :D

  5. how about they are both from the same release, and Chess needed a re-run, but they couldn't use the original masters? Or! the disc was popular and Chess wanted to cash in on the new "fandangled" craze of stereo, so run the 2nd load from the stereo mix??? ...just a thought!

    steve

Not convinced Stereo was such a new craze in '67. Westrex (WS) pioneered (I think) the Mercury System (MS) in 1958.

I'd hazard a guess that the clue is in the fact that it has a CK mark in the run-out groove. Which to me would mean that it had more to do with the CHECKER process (pressing plant, etc). His previous release, "The Entertainer" had been a major hit on the Billboard chart and Chess/Checker/Cadet could have assumed that Landslide would do the same. Therefore, having the track mastered/plated and pressed up North, down South, East Coast and West.

Wouldn't surprise me if there where other run-out variations that have a similar look and feel. Depending on how many they binned.!!

  6. Mine looks the same as you describe your copy , i never thought mine was anything other than a legit reissue or a good boot .

If it's a legit re-issue it must have been re-issued in early 1969 or before as the Chess label changed to the Orange/Blue design you see on the Natural Fours-Devil Made Me Do It.

With regard to it being a boot, you would definitely be right in saying it was a good one. Other than run-out markings it's identical to 4 other blue chess releases I got.

Could it be the next Frank Wilson? tongue.gif If so, I'm not putting mine on the radiator!! laugh.gif

  7. Well this is a bit of a mystery so far, a record hundreds of us know and own and nobody else has got a stereo copy? I own a FREAK!

Don't think it's a one-off Pete, as I got a copy with exactly the same run-out details. The reason I say "I don't think" is that I can't confirm whether it plays Stereo or Mono as my record-player doesn't have such advanced technology on it

However, the plot does thicken a little as the copy I have is practically an exact replica of the one on the "RIGHT" of Rogers picture

  8. Cheers Roger...run off details on this one are:

    CK 1979 A

    14784

then what looks like SW if looking from the label outwards, the W joins the S to make it look like it's saying STU!

Just a thought... might the "CK" indicate "CHECKER" which was part of the same label group. I know that some of the Checker LP's had CK xxxx etched in the runouts. Don't ask me why it might be the case though.

  11. I won a Rose Batiste - Hit & Run off ebay on sunday and when I worked out the price it turns out I'd paid £225, so I thought hang on, I only sell it for £200, if that, why would I pay £225?

Anyway, when I looked at Bidnapper, I was meant to have put a snipe on of $238.88, but I'd actually bid $23,888.00 laugh.giflaugh.gif

Good job I didn't put that $23,887.00 bid on then laugh.gif

  12. I've had two different stories from two different PO's regarding 1st Class recorded......

One says that records can't be classed as letters, even though it fits through the Large Letters slot, therefore must be sent as a Packet and charged £2.37. The other says no problem, and classes them as Large Letters (£1.65). The only reference to this that I can find anywhere on the Royal Mail website quotes, gifts such as books, etc, should be sent as Packets but no specific mention of records.

The last batch of records I sent went as a mixture of the two, but the packets only went as packets because they didn't fit through the Large Letters slot.

As you might have guessed, I will be using the 2nd PO for now, until I get definite confirmation that records are not valid letters.
