I'm interested in picking some of these up. I'm aware of what's already on the net, but if anyone else has any that they'd like to move on please PM with price and condition. Must stress I'm after clean copies with nil, or very minimal writing on the labels, UK sellers only, and I'm not after a "what are you offering" kind of transaction. Thanks in advance.

So, 1st March. Welcome to Women's History Month. This commentary I did for a cultural museum blog a few years ago gets its annual airing, with a soul music industry slant of course, but ever relevant. Link here:

SOLD Clearing the shelves today to make way for incoming stock. Since Brexit scuppered any future dealings with my former print company I no longer sell physical copies of The Tempests: A Carolina Soul Story and House of Broken Hearts: The Soul of 1960s Nashville. Only ebook. That said, a couple of proof paperback copies of both titles have surfaced this morning, so if anyone wants them they are on the site. Heck, I'll even sign 'em if you like! These were first draft copies to check print quality but not far off the final version (other than the cover, as that was added later). A bit of minor author notation next to some images but nothing too obtrusive. Links here:

Thanks for that Mark. Really enjoyable. It's still in my top 10 list and I never tire of it. I've read the book too and it was excellent. It goes into much more detail about the science behind the behaviours of sharks.
Cheers, and glad you enjoyed it. Nice to know I’m in the company of like-minded folk!

40 minutes ago, Peter99 said:Wow Wee! Just look at that. I seem to recall that you were interested in Black American Civil Rights, something I share an interest in.
(Personal Note) My memory is rubbish, but I know you had a book published some time ago, it wasn't regarding this topic, but about artists from a particular area of the US (I think). I did buy a copy at the time and must have it somewhere. You have patience, skill, and great interests. Well done mate. 🤗
That is an amazing post, thank you for sharing.

Aside from records, I'm a memorabilia collector of the music industry and US civil rights. A couple of NAACP membership cards I was talking about last week over on Facebook have just arrived via Hermes, with note from Nancy Compton, the lady who sent them. I'll precis things very briefly here, but her late husband's grandmother was quite a woman:
"Maggie Perry Shipman was born in 1903 in Ellaville, Georgia, before moving north to Johnstown, Pensylvania. Her grandparents were slaves in the South. I believe her activity with NAACP most likely began when the mayor attempted to banish all Blacks from Johnstown after a policeman was killed. Maggie refused to leave. She became a minister for the NAACP (the Johnstown Chapter opened in 1961), led very active life here and was well known and regarded. She was a member of Jobs Daughters, and loaned money to neighbours for those who couldn't afford to borrow from banks. She was a major role model for many in the community, but especially for my husband and her grandchildren. Maggie Shipman died May 14, 1989, age 85."

This Bell Still Rings. My Life of Defiance and Song - a book by Barbara Dane (hardback version). Order via link below.
"Barbara Dane is someone who is willing to follow her conscience. She is, if the term must be used, a hero."- Bob Dylan.
The publisher's synopsis: The autobiography of a courageous singer-songwriter, activist, and American icon. A renowned folk, blues, and jazz singer who performed with some of the twentieth century's most celebrated musicians, from Louis Armstrong to Bob Dylan. A proud progressive who has tirelessly championed racial equality and economic justice in America, and who has traveled the world to sing out against war and tyranny. An organizer, a venue owner, a record label founder, and a woman who has charted her own creative and political path for more than ninety years. Barbara Dane has led an epic, trailblazing life in music and activism, and This Bell Still Rings tells her story in her own adventurous voice. Dane's memoir charts her trajectory from singing in union halls and at factory gates in World War II-era Detroit, to her rise as a respected blues and jazz singer, to her prominence as a folk musician frequently performing at and participating in civil rights and peace demonstrations across the US and abroad-from post-revolutionary Cuba to wartime Vietnam. This Bell Still Rings illuminates "one of the true unsung heroes of American music" (Boston Globe), and it offers a wealth of inspiration for artists, activists, and anyone seeking a life defined by courage and integrity (473 pages, hardback). Postage £5 each. PM to enquire. UK buyers only please.

Up for grabs: Original performance booking contracts for Mark IV, the New York group who recorded their self-titled Mercury LP in 1973 and who were also responsible for the now in-demand OTB and Cordial releases. The 4 contracts are dated 1973 and so presumably part of the plan to push their Mercury LP. All southern venues: Club Capri (Dothan, Alabama); Paladium Club (Atlanta, stamped as a cancelled booking); Peacock Lounge (Goldsboro NC) and ILA Hall (Southport, NC). Contracts also come with deposit riders attached.
There are 4 separate contract packages, with each package containing top copy, plus between 1 and 4 original office carbon copies and additional rider agreements. £10 per contract package plus £5 post (UK buyers only please), or £30 all in, including postage. PM if interested.

As some folks will know, as well as collecting soul music I’m a big original memorabilia fan, and buy and sell various bits of interest. Offering this artist performance contract; a real name dropper here. And a bit of a history lesson. So: this one references a 1972 ZZ Hill performance at the New Era Club (misspelled slightly on the docs) in Nashville where just about every soul, R&B and blues artist played during the 1960s and 1970s. As you’ll see from the detail it outlines terms, conditions and fees. Signed by Matt Hill (ZZ Hill’s older brother who as an aside owned MH Recs and Mesa imprints that ZZ appeared on). Matt was essentially ZZ Hill’s manager at the time. If that isn’t enough, it’s also signed by Rogers Redding for the Paragon agency - run by Zelma Redding (Otis Redding’s wife). Rogers is Otis’ brother. I could go on but the pics do the talking. Anyway I have this for sale which includes the top copy, an office carbon copy and two riders, one signed by Rogers Redding and the other also by Matt Hill. Selling as a package for £40 ONO. PM to enquire. U.K. interested parties only please on this one.
