Not a very legit issue of The Magnetics - poor label design as well - who knows why these command such high prices ?

Already at £23.99 - yet some classy origs fail to reach even £4.99 in bids ????

And no I won' t bother reporting to Ebay - naff all is done by Ebay or copyright owners with regard to these practices.

' sought after pressing '  - at least it is not being touted around as ' orig not sure ' blah blah blah....

Surely you know the answer to your question? Everyone wants to play the big ticket tunes, but they don't want to pay for an original. Another top Dj who will probably get an ovation from the punters when he plays his two big tunes.

  2. Yep Lenny Henry & John Shea ,load of tripe got a dodgy DVD copy of a VHS video some where

    Bazza   :hatsoff2:

You must be mental mate. One of the funniest films I've ever seen. The actors are the best in the business, the script is superb and every time you watch it you notice another funny bit that you missed before. Truly brilliant. If only there were more films like this.

  3. Sorry to disagree, but too many people just going through the motions. If you aren't enjoying something, then move on to something else. Life's too short. Too many on the soul scene because they don't know anything else. People don't like change when they are getting older, but everything has a limited life span. THEY DON'T MAKE THIS MUSIC ANYMORE. It's a nostalgia scene, so if you don't want to listen to the same music every week, move on.

There are no awards for long service to the soul scene. It's the same with venues, all the anniversary crap. We've been going the longest, big deal. Longevity don't mean quality.

  4. The trailer looks good, and I sincerely hope it is a good film and wish the makers every success. My only niggle is that it's set in the 70s again.

Am I the only one who would have preferred to see the northern scene from a different era, maybe even up to date?

And we could have all been in it instead of these young attractive wiper snappers.

  5. My friends and I use the phrase all the time. It's called irony.

As a 17 year old I recall wearing a polo shirt with a Torch patch sewn on it, bearing the legend "Right On the Torch"

My sister, who was four years older and a hippy, used to say it in an ironic way all the time to show me up. Never worn a patch since.

189 Riff Ruffin Hoop And Holler Enjoy M- 15
  9. Here's a thing....why doesn't some enterprising promoter go back to how things once were, & should still be, IMHO, an eclectic mix of everything soulful on one dance floor....imaginative oldies, newies, rarities, 6ts, 7ts, 8ts & beyond - Northern, Modern, X over, RnB, Funk, stompers, floaters, steppers.....the only criteria should be quality dance floor SOUL with the X factor.....intimate, central venue, with proper DJ's who can string a set together encompassing all the above as & when necessary, TOTALLY disregard the nostalgia crowd, they will not be interested in any way shape or form, however there is a middle ground were those interested in proper oldies n those who want to hear more progressive sounds can come together in one venue, albeit a venue with less capacity than the 'big' promoters might be interested in....in a venue like this there would be room for DJ's like Paul Sadot, as well as DJ's who could play mixed sets....the DJ talent & records are out there, in theory the demand is there....step forward a proper promoter who has the vision & talent to pull it all together in a cohesive offensive against mediocrity (at best)....there will be someone out there that can do this & now could be the time to step up to the plate......

    Best Russ

Russ, you know I love you like a brother, but that event would be my worst nightmare. Number one, we are all too old and worldly wise, and yes impatient to stand/sit there half the night waiting for some music that fits into our preferred genre. I certainly am. And secondly you would have to close down all the hundreds of other events that are on every weekend, and organise buses and trains to get the faithful there. And if you were hoping to break records, then it would need to be on a weekly basis, or at least every two weeks.

As has been said in the other threads on this forum. It's very much a social scene these days. The music is very much an after thought to most. The venue, it's location, and the layout, are the things that influence punters on today's scene. And the most important thing of all, will all their friends be there.

Just look at Middleton to prove my point.

  10. You have no chance of breaking new sounds these days unless you are Butch. There are hardly any monthly nighters these days, and back in the day we were going every week. Even when Burnley was monthly, it could take up to six months before a record started to get a reaction. You can't get into something you only hear four times a year.

  11. Sooty

I remember seeing you around mid to late 90s but never got the chance to talk.Let me just say your posts have injected real entertainment to the site. Most of em you have to read through the crazyness a few times but the main points you make are sound. The main thing wrong with this scene at the moment is that the characters like yourself are very thin on the ground. The great nights of the past were made great by an important mixture of great music and great characters. The music is still the same but the scary corner people have mostly gone.I used to travel as much to be around those people as i did to dance.Nowadays it all seems so commercialised the magic essence seems to have waned.I hope the kids in the programme forge their own scene with their own identity and i hope some of them are characters because thats what it will need to break free of the corporate industry it has become.Keep posting mate i need the misery slapping out of me as much as Len.

    Patto

Patto mate, you aren't going to the right allnighters. Mind you, a lot of the characters have gone to the big allnighter in the sky, due in no small part to their lifestyle.

  12. A couple of points. I don't think anyone was getting at the couple featured in the program. They are obviously very nice people and love the music and the scene. I think most of the negative comments were because the program makers portrayed them as the norm on national television. Thereby giving the wrong impression to the non soul loving masses.

The other thing I don't understand is this. Why do the young souls feel the need to wear the old mid seventies fashions? Are they just copying their parents? Or do they feel they need a uniform to show that "we are into northern"?

On a personal level, back in the seventies, me and my mates were very much fashion victims. We would never have been seen dead in the baggies once they had gone out. I would rather have seen the youngsters wearing today's fashions myself.
