  1. Damn it Beeks, history has to be rewritten now :shades::lol: , it was all factually wrong, everything that had ever been written, who played what by whom at the casino, who wore what and why. In fact I dont think Wigan ever happened, its all a conspiracy, it was probably just a branch of uncle joes mintballs, bit like tootsweets in chitty chitty bang bang... it was a figment perhaps of some dodgy chemical trip... i dont think we'll ever know the real truth... right must go have to be back in my sideroom in 5 minutes...:yes::P

  2. Sounds a bit fashion police to me, someones circle skirt is or isn't acceptable based on its fabric being retrospectively correct whistling.gif

Of course should it be any other way?? Nice black FC Skirt with pockets, in a nice material, (non rock n rollish i.e shiny silk type fabric), taken to just above the ankle as spencers intended.

IMO the girls looked no more or less embarrassing than any other wearer of circle skirts. I thought you was of the 'wear what you like' school of thought Dawn?

So long as its indicative of what is retro and within the boundaries of such

    sorry was retro

  4. Just watched it thanks to the power of Rita on facebook...(thanks Rita)

As light hearted entertainment goes it was a giggle,

As a fan of northern soul it wasnt really a true reflection of the scene any longer but the past (again), those clothes were an embarrassment particularly the shiny material of the skirts it looked more like a rock and roll convention, at least the lads looked half decent, but the ladies come on, what happened to the black????

It is a tough call sometimes... I have had on the odd person who i was not sure about with regards to character, if they did a good job but were real knobs then no way would i have them on again

Don't tend to fall out with many folk but there are some who i would never have the time of day for and that will keep away from at all cost and would never have them dj at my events regardless of how good the tunes they have or reputation...

There are also certain promoters who i have no time for and would not step foot into any place they run  ..

Its about honesty, trust and friendship for me, without that the music aint enough alone to make me do something i don't wanna do..

I know plenty folk who would not let shit like this get to them but that not me....

Would not go and play for any person also that i did not like or respect also, there are enough good folk around...

    peace and love xx :D

I agree with what Steve has said here .... honesty trust and friendship has played a major part in this scene of ours since I first got into it, and thats how it is for me years later, backstabbers dont get a place behind my decks and I certainly wouldnt part with any money going to a venue to see em, regardless of tracks.... when someone for example has the same record 40 miles up the road. Just received this email today and am saddened to hear that one of the best nights in Lincolnshire is coming to an end.

I would just like to thank Steve and the crew for putting this nite on, been to a fair few in the past and always had a great time. Gonna make sure that whatever plans I have on this nite are cancelled so I can attend.

This is yet another loss on the scene of a quality great nite with a brill music policy, I sometimes wonder where its all going to end?

''Hi All I would like to let you know that Out On The Floor Again Grantham friday 21st November 2008 with SOUL SAM, ROB SMITH & JOHN MANSHIP will be the last one. We have decided to call it a day after 8 years, We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supporrted us over the years, and all the great DJ`s that have graced the decks. Lets hope for a good send off, not for us the promoters, but for the loyal regular supporters, the club staff & the DJ`s to have a night to remember. Thanks Steve & Pauline Gutteridge''.

  7. You can't be serious Dawn...really?

Fair do's love, we ain't all the same.

But how can it be pants?

The same direction, same mindset as what I would expect your true musical love to be- just a black band playing soul music.

yeah really Barry, heard it far too many times I think, and grew to dislike it, think its a poor quality production too. But you've just heard it so enjoy. :shades:

  8. Bloody hell Ed - you've opened one of the proverbial worm cans!

What will ensue may well prove to be messy. There will be debates and slanging matches about the very word "Modern". The said topic will then include references to Ian Levine, Cleethorpes, Mecca etc.

Hold on it could be a bumpy ride!

    Thats the bullet now...lol

Now don't forget the Palais :):(

  9. It's all over Casanova

Coffee Casanova De-lite (1980) mega dance record, jazz funk?? Disco?? Northernsoul????

Can any one remember this? Was it ever played at Wigan Casino?

I believe it's on the same label as Benny Troy "I want to give you tomorrow"?

Both records where possibly cut around about the same time, I remember Benny Troy circa this time as a real biggie!

Sam was the spinner of this one, it was massive at the winter gardens Cleethorpes, hugh floor filler too, six weeks after him promoting it for what seemed like an age it hit the charts and was never played again ..... Ace tune in my opinion and have spun it out a couple of times recently.....

  10. What a great thread...can't believe i've missed it...I now play OVO but I used to play boots and reissues a plenty alongside OV...i've not changed just to fit in...i've changed because I'm starting to enjoy tracking down originals...but like Ian Dewhirst said right on the first page...it's all well and good me playing my £50-200 Originals but if I had a record worth say £1000+ id be loathe to play it on various turntables week in week out for fear of devaluing it.

There is no need to play boots and reissues for the simple fact that there are plenty of fantastic quality soul records that are cheap as chips...buying boots just smacks of unoriginality...there are some gems out there you just have to dig a little...and if there is a monster that you love that is out of reach...get it on MP3 and enjoy it...just as you'd enjoy it if the richer DJ plays it out when you're at an event :)
