Funny how things change !!!! I used to play this [ driza bone -real love] when we was doin' RSG @ Drummonds IN King's Cross in London in 1990 & there was a few Northern die hard's who used to say to me Why Are You Playing this HOUSE MUSIC !!!! the mind boggles, now not what a difference a day makes, But what a difference 10 or 15 years Makes....I see Kashif "Rumour's" cropping up on people's play lists as well, another one people used to slag me off for....there are them that know's & them that don't....Make of that what you will....

those live tape things are brilliant jon bring back a lot of memories

presume recorded from the decks? shame you didn't have an effects mike for the crowd noise (at least on the ones i've heard so far) but that's probably expecting too much!!

    really great all the same

    link

Yes shame there are no crowd noises on the tapes :shades:But that makes them a bit different than the usual Live Tapes wicked.gif But the best is yet to come  Baz Ryley  What a star he was ( RIP ) Not many DJ's could get away with Shouting & Singing along with the Records the way he did  & be liked....

Years ago when we used to go to the Monthly Oldies Allnighters @ Wigan Casino, They annouced that they would be going fortnightly, Great Myself Pete Wickam & a few other who's names I forget drove with us in my Famous MK3 Cortina 200 miles Hemel Hempstead to Wigan, Only to find out the Friday Night Once a Fortnight Oldies Allnighters started the week after, there was a few other people there about another 10....& there was nothing else on in the area that night what a bummer, & to top that we sat @ a set of never changing traffic lights for what seemed like 15 mins....after which we slowly drove through them & there was a Police Car waiting to nick me for driving through a Red Light....I reckon he had it fixed...

Who will be the member 3000 ? & will he or she have the Name Andre, then they can be Andre 3000 ? (Outkast) or has it been given out already? I noticed the new Dutch Northern Soul DJ Moonpirate, who joined yesterday tea time was 2,989....

  7. Is there a guideline on 'how to become a Northern Soul DJ'? What are the must-haves and what makes a set interesting to others?

I'm trying to get Northern back into a club and need some help, caus I only get one chance and 30 minutes to fill up the floor. If it works out fine, I'll have a good start to spin again, but I must compete with the techno-hardhouse-bullshit-dj's who spin monotonous crap-music

I need the bouncy stuff, that moves yer feet.  wink.gif

    Tips are more than welcome!!

So are you starting from scratch ( at the begining ) & you will from what you've outlined already.... You don't think that your trying to play the Right Music ( Our Music ) to the wrong crowd, or is that what you want to do Educate them. there are quite a few people out here myself included who can say do this or do that, But what any of us say may not be for you. I wish you luck in your Quest.... Follow your heart & do what feels right

Hell no Pete, I'm not distputing the Invitations aren't a good soul group, it's the song "Ski-ing in the snow" itself, lyricly it's laughable and always makes me cringe. Cheers Dayo, glad there like-minded folk on here.

Not forgeting as I have mentioned before Russ Winstanley Playing Tina Charles/5000 Volts I'm On Fire @ Wigan in 1975 .....

  10. A couple of years ago  in the Sunday Star there was a CD called something like Lazy Sunday Soul.  It had Frank Wilson, Sliced Tomatoes, Band Of Gold and a few others including the added extra tracks in a similar style that they thow on these discs.  I bought the paper specially for it and it was crap.

Jon, Noticed that myself, also noticed that the version of Frank Wilson is a different take\mix to the original Soul 45 version.

    link

Funny you should say that I never thought of playing it Just thought it was, What It Was... & it is compleatly different.... Not to bad though that Extra line or 2 that's not in the original like "There's Another Thing I Won't to Tell Ya"....

Now that you mention it. and introduce the concept of "CD's" into the fray -  I have quite a few on RCA, stored amongst the "special things" in the shop.

    link

I wondered why TESCO's had so many good Northern Soul CD's for sale, Steve G must be in there advising them what to stock....Cheshunt the home of TESCO's & Steve G....
