What I'm saying is we are (and have been) part of the greatest underground dance music scene ever. We are flattered when these imitation 'tribute' pop records appear but shouldn't take 'em too seriously should we? Of course we shouldn't.

  2. Rather be playing and listening to the real stuff- "thousands of the real thing" (thanks boba)- rather than "tribute" pop records.  God forbid if real soul promoters are allowing this stuff to be played at their venues. However, lately nothing would surprise me.

  3. "Comfort zone? We ain't got no Comfort zone. We don't need no Comfort zone! I don't have to show you any stinkin' Comfort zone!"

Wow..Thanks my old friend..One of my faves.."THE TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE" (1948)

Or should this post be in the movie section in Freebasing or summat?

  4. Does anyone still really seriously collect British? I mean it may have been ok in the 70s but as all of the best records came out on US labels first whats the point in collecting what are essentially re-issues of the original US release?

    Chris

Like almost everything made in Britain back in the day..almost indestructable, heavy, hard as iron, virtually lasts forever. Making their American counterparts look soooo flimsy. The British sound engineers seemed to take the master tapes and tweaked em to sound even better than the American originals. And as someone else said on this thread.. Two red and whites (or greens) on the decks look so much cooler....

  5. A very good friend and mentor of mine from the past. The late great "Little John" Ullah from Scunthorpe once told me.

"Totally unplayed unknowns always start at a fiver then work themselves up from there.."

What Joe D is saying is also true in my opinion-..something's only worth what somebody else is prepared to pay for it.

So keep playing it and build up a demand for it. Then listen to the offers...

  6. I like all three but LAZY's the one I've heard the most. Which is strange as it's the rarest. Kept hearing it played a lot in the Lancashire area in the early 90's. And in my opinion not an "expensive prize turkey" as is claimed earlier in this thread. Sorry, but I like it.  I'll 'plump' for this turkey....

  7. after some unconscionably closing auctions on ebay ($200 or more), right now in the same site there are three copies

of prelude from three different sellers with starting bid $100.!!!

... so keep your eyes open and bid it hard, unless you wanna lose it thumbup.gif

Bought one from the Wilton in the early nineties-forgotten how much I paid..

Not closely guarded secrets, but this is the sort of stuff we play at Move On all the time, not always uptempo but cheap gritty dancers with an RnB edge. thumbsup.gif

Joann Garrett - Watcha Been Doing - Duo (absolutely magnificent)

The Vistors - Lonely One, Lonely Son - Dakar

Lee Webber - Seventh Son - Excello

Jimmy Hanna - Busybody - Bolo

Lee Edwards and his Continentals - Eloise Come back Home - Lantic Gold

Earl Lewis - She Blew My Mind - Rare Bird

Big Lucky - Stop Arguing Over Me - M.O.C.

Bill Williams - Knock Out Your Half Steppin - Dump Off

Bill Johnson - It Never Gonna Die - Jocinda

Jimmy Washington - You Outa See My Baby - Backbeat

Joe Simon - Long Hot Summer - Sound Stage Seven

I'm sure if Adam gets on here he will add a few.

Nice listing that won't break the bank. But isn't the spin by The Visitors on Dakar called Lonely One ONLY Son?

  9. He means the A6 that goes through Chorley Steve, puts the San Diego to LA freeway to shame it doeslaugh.gif

I was in California in August & had a mooch round Rooky Ricardo's in SF - some decent 45s but don't expect bargains. There's also a store in Long Beach, didn't manage to get there & can't recall the name of the place.

Best haul for me though was Rich Rosen in Las Vegas, he turns up some very good titles but charges like a wounded rhino. However when he realises you've got more of a clue than he does about current values, he's open to negotiation.yes.gif

    Cheers

    Pete

I went a couple of months ago to see Rich Rosen (what a nice guy) at WAX TRAX in Vegas.

Noticed the vast amount of price guides he had..Manships included. When I started looking through the guides Rich seemed concerned. He then asked me why I was looking through the guides as he guaranteed to beat the guide prices anyway. He did-but not by much.

  10. My multi coloured one which I bought for £6 in early 90's is slightly off centre...anyone got the same?

Still playable if u line it up right just a bit difficuilt if you are DJ'ing and had 8 pints! smile.gif

P.S. I'll ask CC if it was him who played on 29th December!

It can be played! I've seen loadsa good stuff pressed slightly off centre. Sometimes only the label's been stuck on to the vinyl off centre. Try lining it up and cueing it in with two fingers and your thumb around the spindle and don't use a centre...
