FIRST COME FIRST SERVED. Doors are at 9PM and acts start at 10PM sharp. ARRIVE EARLY! The event will take place on Thursday March 14th, 2013 at Frank, at 407 Colorado in downtown Austin. The modern funk community has seen rapid growth over the past few years, drawing influence from the infectious sounds of 80’s boogie while forging new musical directions using modern production techniques and keyboard sounds. Modern funk is danceable, soulful, and relatable from the first listen. Artists following in the tradition of The Gap Band, Zapp & Roger, and Evelyn King will come together at an event like nothing held previously at SXSW. We will be bridging the decades with a live performance by Austin’s own Trace of Smoke. Truly a unique event, Trace of Smoke last played together as Karizma in the mid-80s. In the following decades, their song "Treasure Mind" became a classic on the Northern Soul scene in the UK and popular worldwide. They released two singles, recently licensed to Magnetic Recordings, at the time and will perform 3 songs with five of the original seven members. Let's boogie. #SXSBoogie
