    You could well be right but I recall reading it was played at a nighter ? Who knows ? 

    Apparently Domino by Van Morrison was played briefly on the scene too , the backing track is almost identical to Al De Lory's  Right On ....I could just imagine the grumpiest man  in Ireland being well impressed at this :glare:

    A trip down memory lane there .

    As a teenager in the 1980's my soul education was via the latest Kent LP's , I couldn't wait to visit my favourite record store in the city center to see what was the latest release .

    Part of the excitement apart from flipping it over to read the track listing was the cool artwork from Ian Clark and the witty sleeve notes from Harboro Horace , I pretty much collected all of the albums apart from a few (which I must buy someday just to complete the set ) 

    The artwork was something else and part of that tradition of buying an album and feeling like you really had something that you couldn't wait to show to your mates .

    Some great album covers already mentioned my favourite was Dancing Til Dawn , I ended up getting that title on my Vespa 100 .

    I later bought 45's from Ian in the 90's a real nice friendly guy .

    All these articles like to home in on the negatives instead of the positives .

    The reality is thousands of white people fell in love with black American soul music and so in their own little way helped break down the barriers of racial prejudice .

    Of course the scene was predominately white - the north of England was predominately white in the 1970's .

    Don't forget this was an era when the National Front had grown to become the 3rd biggest political party in England , there was a lot of racism around yet you have thousands of kids dancing to black music - two fingers up to the racists even if they didn't even realize it at the time .

    Somehow this message has been lost along the way more so in our scene than some others and that's a shame .

    Maybe Craig Charles should interview some of the black artists who traveled here to perform and seek their views ? He might get a different picture .

    I lost a copy of this in a box of records I lost a while back, I live in Dublin ???

    ​When we heard about this everyone had the same opinion that the person would lie low til the dust settled and then try to sell off your records one by one .

    The thing is its not that easy especially as they are rare records , first one he tries to sell (that you know off ) and someone flags it up .

    Lets hope the culprit is tracked down and gets his full comeuppance in whatever form that takes , a dirty action stealing .

    In a complete mess with no order - sometimes I have to look for ages to find something , sometimes I never find it until weeks later .

     

    On the plus side its fun to turn up something I didn't know I had .

     

    On the downside I have been known to buy records that I forgot I already had  :tumbleweed3: 

    You don't have to put in all the info such as producer, songwriter, matrix numbers etc - just the basics to get it on the site and allow you to list the item for sale.

     

    Some sad person will come along afterwards and edit the listing with all the bits missing

     

    I was selling a few bits and bobs a while back and it kept kicking it back to me telling me to add producers etc , year issued etc .

     

    Its handy enough if someone has already posted the same record as the info is there already to copy but if its something new then it can be complicated in the end I just gave up , I didn't have the time or energy any more .

    Its a shame right enough but its a pretty good well organized site .

     

    I've picked up some great tunes there for next to nothing when dealers were looking considerably more .

     

    Anything less than £100 is worth searching out on Discogs  

    Worth watching just for Curtis Mayfield singing Keep on keeping on live on what looked like The Old Grey Whistle Test .

     

    The show before was well worth checking out also Dexy's -Nowhere is Home .

     

    BBC4 on a Friday night has produced some great music nights .

    I had a dispute earlier this year with a dealer from America who obviously wasn't the brightest spark .

     

    He claimed he never received any money and that's why I never received a record which was a lie because with Paypal you can track the transaction number as well as when it was paid exactly etc etc .

     

    I gave him ample chances and he just kept digging himself deeper and deeper , why I don't really know but my theory was he didn't have the record in the first place .

     

    I put the whole thing in the hands of the Paypal dispute and that plus threatening to publicize what he had done got me a refund fairly quickly .

     

    The transaction was via Discogs too which helped my case . 

    It's caused a storm Jim, some bloke somehow doing the underhand thing and having some pressed up, no way will he

    have approached the right authorities in the States just to get permission to have 50 copies legally done

     

    Oh no ! 

     

    I bought a copy of this a while back for £8 and was under the impression it was a legal issue , played it out and it went down a storm .

     

    Ah well back on the shelf it goes to be played only in the living room ...darn !

     50 copies were booted by one of those European dealers recently (single)

     

     

     

    Think the Pervis Lee track dates from 69 and it was issued on a UK (maybe US) pressed 45 not too long back. 

     

    So the recent 45 reissue is a boot ? 

     

    I guessed as it was a legal issue as it was what appears to be his own label Lee Way ..... maybe not ? 

     

    Certainly the LP is ultra rare (£300+) 

     

    A great track none the less and fairly unique , I love it .

    I had one of these for sale yesterday and nobody bought it.  Unbelievable.  I've never heard such a heartbreaking performance such as Big Maybelle's on Oh Lord etc, especially right near the end where it has a chord change and she almost cries asshe sings.  An amazing record.

     

    I saw that and for a very reasonable price .

     

    Anyone I know who hears this falls in love with it , what emotion she puts into it but then judging by the hard life she had she was sure singing it for real .

     

    I always play this as an ender when I'm djing
