As far as I am aware they are all on the 'red' Truth label..... mine is.

so is mine, but another completely different label design exists - seen it, hugged it. It has the more 70's look font of the label, coloured orange or tan from what I recall.

Had the album for years, a very kind discount copy from an old friend. Sadly I haven't unpacked the dozen or so favourite LP's I brought over yet, should do when I settle somewhere properly . Been missing the title track and "I'll Come Running Back" at home - nice enough to play the whole thing through.

Think I recall seeing an email somewhere that Sandra had started up her own website, or is that a weekend ...ender dream?

Just got a copy of Sandra Wright Midnight affair on Truth through the post today. it's on red truth label haven't seen one on red label before anyone else got one ?

just over a year ago, red ones started appearing on eBay. Probably saw 10 or so (had it on "watch" for a couple of years, so a bit of a shock) and they still show up now as I renew most watches.

Not seen so many of the other ones really, not that I tend to look at decks here

Love both sides of this record and hammer it quite a lot (actually, just logged in to post up our last playlists and I see that the ballad flip is on there ). Love it so much, that I bought two - just in case one wears out .

That nice Mr Pountain put me on to both of their records about 4 years ago, but can't say I was that keen on "WITH OR WITHOUT..." . Still, bought it for the other half (to buy off me), so drop me a PM if you have no luck and I'll ask him to play it while I connect the laptop to the phono thingy.

Yeah, but nobody forces the alcohol down your throat . They banned smoking in many venues back home in Sydney years ago, and us asthmatics breathed a sigh of relief . Now here, I've got a puffer again for "bad" weekends and the eyes and throat play up in a smoky venue again too. Most of my friends are smokers, so I'm not preaching - but it's no fun when it makes you ill but you haven't got a choice in partaking (a bit like going to niters really ).

As for the many venues Fenman - I actually enjoy lots of soul variety. Whilst there are certain styles I'd never miss (like RnB), I travel and taste more than my fair share of soul venues and weekenders because I like it that way (did it there and do it here). But that means I can't support many regularly - sadly, some of the better nights don't necessarily survive. Anyway, what one person may consider "bad", might actually be extremely popular, so musical tastes drive new promoters too I guess. Also seems pounding promotion is sometimes needed for keeping numbers too .

For me, word-of-mouth from certain people is what I trust most for a recommendation or warning, coz the nice people always tell the truth!

It's a great northern dancer for sure, but to my ears it's no better than something like Judy Street. Reminds me a bit of parts of I Worship You Baby.

it sounds like a pop tin-can recording on the sound-clip, more like one of us trying to sing it than the real record. Honestly Pete, the orchestration, pounding beat and even the voice - is a million times better 'live and loud' - it REALLY DOES make you want to dance to it .

Thanks for the interest so far. Just to clarify matters:

The reason the deadline is end of Tuesday, is because it allows enough time to confirm a deal before the weekender (it was due for his sales/trades box, but I decided to give Soul-Source a try).

As I also stated, the potential sale is due to where prices on this have been going (ie.hitting four figures), so it's not being offerred cheap and the seller is not overly fussed if it doesn't sell...

if someone does a set of £10, £20, £30 records, does that make 'em a "cheap soul dj" should they be advertised as this on flyers would you go and listen to a "cheap soul dj"

I'd try and hear them if I liked what they played and how they put it together. The problem with cheap records is that you may have heard them lots and lots before (especially if you spent most of the last 20 years on a soul scene that had little access to much else until recently ).

The other thing about a good proportion of "rare" records (rare in terms of "hard-to-find"), is that they have a certain sound which was not commercial for the time, thereby not selling well or being mass produced, thereby not existing in the larger quantities now. So that "rare sound" might be what you like, not the scarcity or price tag. Some people call that sound "dross" and claim it is desperation for finding something new for the scene. But have you ever fallen in love with a sound and find that when you ask what the price is, the answer ends in "thousand" ? and that friggin four-letter word is often added on too!

(- "rare" for me, has become a bit of a dirty word )

Reminds me that I was speaking to someone who was sick of the big names and price tags and was toying with the idea of putting on a night where every record played was £20 maximum value. Shocked when he asked me to play, but I declined because I didn't like the statement he was making (a bit like positive discrimination, eh?). Besides, I thought playing your records was about sharing your loved ones ?

..I recall when it was £500, then buying it for £300 in a visit in May 2003 as they turned up, then seeing them flow out from eBay not too many months later, then I guess just the odd drip from a collection since?

(personally, i can't understand people who sell from their collection . Keep it Martin, you know it's a goodun!)

Trying to remember the link between two labels.  Eugene Davis owned Flaming Arrow and he wrote the Joseph Webster track, looks like he produced it too.  By the looks of it Flaming Arrow is mention on the Crow scan but can't quite make the rest out.  Cheers

I recall turning over Soul Sam's JW to find the better (imho) instrumental flip. It was when I saw the band credited to that B side, that the Flaming Arrow connection suddenly became very very obvious
