  1. I’ve been sorting out my record boxes today to update the DJ box & came across this I had to have it at the time for the Wigan history & Tammi Terrell connection. I forked out around £200 for it at the time & it bombed every time I played it out, so it’s sat in the box ever since Just wondering what other people have bought as a “Must Have” that never makes it to a venue
  2. Back in the late 70’s I’d always start & close my sets with instrumentals, usually “The In Crowd”, Ramsey Lewis & Mood Mosaic’s “Touch of Velvet” to close. If nobody danced they were perfect to speak over & if the danced it was a bonus As for instro’s to dance to, in my younger days when I threw myself around a little more “You Can’t Sit Down” by Phil Upchurch Combo used to do it for me
  3. If he does I’ll be first on the list. I’ll take it on anything but a carver
  4. Looks like other than convincing Mr Levine to dig out the tapes & release it, it’ll not get added to the playlist any time soon
  5. I have the 1965 release, the Motorcity release was produced by Ian Levine & is a modern soul track https://nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fm.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DJFpFxB4Wqcg&data=04|01||f6c076c8a7d14a01799808da0b801e16|84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa|1|0|637834942126127742|Unknown|TWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D|3000&sdata=tsSefjlS%2BSfW6mOS%2BsS4OpXAFMBkntNwe0ykJbfNR78%3D&reserved=0
  6. Does anyone know if this album is available on vinyl? if not the whole album I’m specifically after her reinterpretation of “Let Me Down Easy” Any help would be appreciated
  7. That makes sense because the 60’s Ska I have seems to play closer to grade
  8. Quality control doesn’t look to be high on the agenda
  9. I have a few Jamaican Stateside tracks, which have little dips in the vinyl or rough edges or that look NM but play nowhere near it. Is it me that’s unlucky with the records I’m buying or are Jamaican pressings not as good US & European pressings. If so are there any specific reasons why & are there any other countries to avoid?
  10. I know just what you mean 😁
  11. The etiquette shows what a polite group we Soulies are. I think that’s why people that have been around the scene get so annoyed by idiots at venues
  12. That tallies with what the Missus said, particularly at the King Mojo in Sheffield, she said that when Peter Stringfellow had acts from the US guys would emulate their moves
  13. Does anyone know how the generic northern soul dance style originated? I got in to Northern around 1976 and by that time it was already established that dancers seemed to have there own 6ft square of dance floor, which they two-stepped & walked around in time to the music. I thought may have come from the Mod clubs where some of the music came from, but the Missus was a Mod in the 60’s and apart from dancing to Willie Tee’s “Walking Up A One-Way Street” she can’t remember any dances with a walking style in the Mod clubs up North. I’d like to know if it’s a “Northern” thing from clubs like Va Va in Bolton or did what we recognise as Northern Soul dancing originate in the Midlands at the Golden Torch or the Catacombs Any information would be appreciated
  14. Looking for a copy of Kent 6T’s 25th Anniversary Special - (Just A Little) Faith And Understanding The Magicians 6T 20-A Ex or better Please PM with condition and price Thanks
  15. I tried that recently on Discogs for a Ska track that had “make an offer” - I made an offer for, got no response & the next time I looked the “make an offer“ had gone 😵‍💫 maybe my idea of the right price & there idea was different
  16. I suppose if you’re a dealer & that’s how you earn your living you’ll always try to get the best price possible. Personally I’m lucky that there’s a dealer that lives close by, that sells regularly on here. As I upgrade the tracks I have or if I get duplicates from a bundle purchase I take them to him, we both know that he’s got to make a profit & pay his tax so we don’t haggle- he gets stock & I don’t end up with multiple copies of the same track I don’t think I could be bothered with the hassle of auctioning records that in my mind are worth a couple of hundred quid tops
  17. I suppose it’s the gamble you take that it may not sell for as much as you would like. Although recently from the comments I’ve read the auctions are surpassing expected values even when the records are available on Discogs, and based on your comments it has been this way for a while
  18. So realistically there is nothing to make a record auction worthy, but if you want a bit more money for the records you’re selling, Auction them through JM
  19. So following that logic, it’s not the record that defines if a record is worthwhile auctioning, it’s whoever is selling it, or if you’re cynical if Mr M can make a few quid
  20. Ah, that makes sense, as the price is known & therefore no real reason to put it out to gauge the market value. Working on that premise I probably only have one record that would be auction worthy as I’ve not seen one up for sale for years Am I right in assuming that the reason for putting these records with a known sales history up for auction is purely to push up the price?
  21. Agreed, I have a few this week, others I have one, and others none. I just can’t get to grips with what sets a record apart for auction as I wouldn’t consider any of my collection valuable enough or rare enough to warrant being auctioned, yet they keep appearing
