Grading: M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG / VG- / G (VG++ is used to mean the same as EX in UK Record Collector terms). Post prices are £4 UK recorded / £9 UK special delivery / £6 airmail to EU (cheap items only) / £7 rest of the world (cheap items only) / £12 tracked & signed service outside the UK. The mail system seems to be working well at the moment, touch wood, but If you want to buy something and fear it being trapped in the seasonal pile-up at the depots, just let me know and I can send in the new year if you prefer. Thanks, George Lee Fields “Tyra’s Song / You’re My Weakness” (A&T) VG £50 Storming dancefloor favourite, ballad flip. (Light warp not affecting play) Ray Lewis “Too Sweet To Be Lonely / Sitting at Home with my Baby” (D’Or) VG £40 Lovely midtempo crossover/ ballad, with swinging northern flip, both featuring strong lead & group backing. (Sitting side has two x’s on label) Helene Smith “China Melody / What’s in the Lovin” (Deep City) VG++ £135 Powerful darkside ballad, along with a solid funky northern side. (Very faint dish not affecting play, hard to see, visible just slightly when uptempo side is playing) True Direction “Standing By My Window / I Found A Lady (Gold Coin) VG+ £125 The first side here is a kind of dark & bluesy midtempo funky stepper with haunting synth, which comes highly recommended, while “I Found A Lady” is a pumping modern dancer. Still fairly obscure. (Dish not affecting play) Clifford McClain “I Can’t Fight It / Inst.” (McClain) VG++ £75 Excellent modern with a fresh, building sound; the vibe is homemade yet the net result is club-friendly. (Clean copy, pretty much M- but with a minor pressing swoosh before the music starts) Vontastics “I’ll Never Say Goodbye / Don’t Mess Around” (Satellite) VG £65 Excellent northern / crossover dancer. (A side has some ringwear at outer edge. Looks ok. B side has similar ringwear, wol, and fairly discreet tear at top. That side also has scuffing nap). The Positive Sounds “You’re The One I Need / I Almost Blew My Mind” (Shiptown) VG £475 Amongst the greatest of all group ballads – and one of Norfolk VA’s finest soul records, which is saying something. (Featured side plays great. Light tics on flip, check the full audio – still a pretty decent copy.) Barbara Stant “(You’ve Got To) Try It Again / (I’ve Found Me A) Real Man” (Shiptown) VG++ £85 Classic 70s double sider. Thanks, George Alphabetical by Label Freda Wells “You Believe in Me / Move Me” (Big Willie) VG £60 Oddball sound from Detroit – the featured side here being an excellent ’70s dark ballad. Obscure and recommended. (Ballad has a scratch causing tics late in the song. Move Me has a single pop immediately before the music starts, then plays great.) Special Touch “This Party is Just For You / Just What is Forever” (Brackett) VG+ £175 In-demand 1981 dancer with 2-step flip. (Has a few scuffs, but plays great. Very faint edge lift not affecting play & barely noticeable) Terry Callier “I Just Can’t Help Myself (I Don’t Want Nobody Else) / Gotta Get Closer to You” (Cadet white demo) VG++ £120 A lovely copy. (Virtually M- with dish not affecting play, not apparent when A side is playing) J. Jay & The Dell Tones “Just A Matter of Time” (Cobra) nice VG £200 Rugged yet slinky dancer from San Antonio, funky but with a dark R’n’B-popcorn sound. (Labels have small, discreet and very faint signatures. Flip is VG) Joe Garland with Little Dave & The Soul Peppers “That’s His Girl / Sound of Love” (Eastwind International Artists) VG+ £600 Beautiful early ‘70s crossover dancer from Queens, NY with great drums. Quite obscure, and has only ever been up for sale a couple of times. (Ballad flip.) Solicitors “Music For The Brothers / Acid” (Excello) VG £35 Music For The Brothers is solid uptempo funk, only found on the issue copy – and it’s a different version of the song to the one on the extremely rare local pressing, which is messier. (Very faint ringwear) Johnny Andrews “My Amazing Dream / I’m Not Just Pretending” (Post) VG- / G £200 Heavy ‘60s midtempo banger from Ohio, which remains extremely rare. (Lots of wear & small scratches, but as you can hear, it plays pretty well. Deep soul B side is G) The Positive Gospel Singers “Where Will It End / I Stop By” (Roy) VG+ £70 Excellent obscure 70s midtempo / ballad. Destined for headier pricing once people get to hear it. El Shobey & Co. “Never Missed What You Got / Whole Thing” (Shout) VG+ £75 I wish more records sounded like this: pathos-laden crossover in minor key, with rugged production, amazing drums and serious mobility. Pitch it up to gain maximum dancefloor benefit. Funky soul at its very best, there’s also a break on the flip. Alex Williams & The Mustangs “Moon Dust / The Thrill Ain’t Gone” (Soultrack) VG++ £70 Still bangs. A great copy on the original label. Spectrum “Let’s Fall in Love / If You Wanna Party” (Spectrum Enterprises) VG+ £100 Nice 70s sweet soul, rarely found like this on the original Virginia label in properly listenable condition (funk flip). Cyre “The More The Man / The More The Man” (Spectrum Records) VG £175 Obscure midtempo modern stepper / rare groove, with the B side being a part 2. (A side is more like VG+. B side has a small scratch causing some light tics, not terribly intrusive. Check full clips) Image “We’re Movin / Promises” (Verdy) VG+ / strong VG £40 Underrated modern dancer with a huge vocal. The ballad flip is also good. Tough to find clean. fredawells.mp3 fredawells_moveme.mp3 specialtouch.mp3 specialtouch_flip.mp3 terrycallier_idontwant.mp3 terrycallier_closer.mp3 jjay_just.mp3 joegarland.mp3 joegarland_flip.mp3 solicitors_music.mp3 solicitors_acid.mp3 johnnyandrews.mp3 johnnyandrews_flip.mp3 positivegospelsingers.mp3 positivegospelsingers_flip.mp3 elshobey.mp3 elshobey_flip.mp3 alexwilliams_moondust.mp3 alexwilliams_thrill.mp3 spectrum_fall.mp3 spectrum_flip.mp3 cyre_A.mp3 cyre_B.mp3 image_weremovin.mp3 image_promises.mp3
  3. Click the song titles for audio, taken directly from the record for sale, with no EQing etc. Email ruralconcourse@yahoo.com to reserve, etc - enquiries welcome, if in doubt about anything then feel free to request photos or further information. Thanks, George 45s ~ alphabetical by label Lee Fields “Tyra’s Song / You’re My Weakness” (A&T) VG £70 Storming dancefloor favourite, ballad flip. (Light warp not affecting play) Wes Lewis “It’s Gonna Be Hard / Best Of My Years” (Black Kat) VG+ £125 Midtempo crossover with strong vocal performance and plenty of style, plus a really nice group ballad. (Very slight warp not affecting play. Looks pretty clean, but has a bit of noise in pressing, as with other copies I've seen) Jade “One Down & You To Go” / WOL-14.5 AM (Budweiser Showcase) VG £100 Underrated ballad. (Same track as Seville. Looks pretty clean, plays with just a touch of noise) Jimmy Lomax “Come On Home” (Camille) VG+ sold Still seemingly little-known funky northern, with two drum breaks and a big, pleading vocal. (Slight dish not affecting play) Ray Lewis “Too Sweet To Be Lonely / Sitting at Home with my Baby” (D’Or) VG £60 Lovely midtempo crossover/ ballad, with swinging northern flip, both featuring strong lead & group backing. (Sitting side has two x’s on label) John “Buddy” Hopkins “I Feel Love / I Feel Love (Dance Mix)” (De Vree) VG++ £40 Obscure 80s soul from Hollywood CA. With the elements more spaced out, the Dance Mix is probably the better side. (Sharp copy, close to M- with some very faint swirly label imprinting, actually looks quite cool & seems to just be how this record was pressed) The Shades of Love “Such Good Friends / A Woman Will Do Wrong” (Delon) strong VG to VG+ £700 Funky northern / crossover dancer with a female lead that gets right inside your system – truly infectious & uplifting. Solid harmony ballad on the flip, covering the Clarence Reid & Paul Kelly song that was done first (?) by Helene Smith. (Light wear. A side plays great, B side has some faint noise. A touch of faint ringwear, still looks ok.) The Blenders Ltd. “You Got It All, Ain’t Got No More / When Ya Git Through Wit It Put It Back” (Grayslak) VG+ £225 Both of these 70s funk dancers bang in the club. The featured side here comes with the heady horns, but the other one has the tough drum break and killer soloing. (Seldom surfaces clean like this.) Jodesha & Star Ride “Star Ride / The Answer” (Love Poet) VG++ Offers Ultimate cosmic modern, in a class of its own. One of the hottest records out there, and with very good reason: besides hardly ever turning up, “Star Ride” an absolute masterpiece. The B side is pretty strong, too. (Copy looks nice and clean. Trades and part-trades also considered, feel free to enquire.) Cloud One “Disco Juice / Charleston Connection” (P&P) VG+ £45 on hold Classic New York underground disco, majestic-sounding each & every time. (Looks really clean, doubtless would be sold as M- elsewhere. Very faint dish, only visible when B side is playing) Universal Jubilaires “Childhood Days” (Redemption) VG/VG- sold Gospel funk banger from Chicago. (B side is VG- to G and has a touch of label wear) The Scott Singers “When The Saints Go Marching In” (Sacred Sounds) VG sold Raw & rugged gospel funk from Detroit. (Flip has a touch of label marking, nothing bad) Vontastics “I’ll Never Say Goodbye / Don’t Mess Around” (Satellite) VG £85 Excellent northern / crossover dancer. (A side has some ringwear at outer edge. Looks ok. B side has similar ringwear, wol, and fairly discreet tear at top. That side also has scuffing nap). The Positive Sounds “You’re The One I Need / I Almost Blew My Mind” (Shiptown) VG £900 Amongst the greatest of all group ballads – and one of Norfolk VA’s finest soul records, which is saying something. (Featured side plays great. Light tics on flip, check the full audio – still a pretty decent copy.) Hot Stuff “Hustle Bustle / Down for the Count” (Sound House) VG+ £175 on hold The heartfelt funky disco sound of “Hustle Bustle” is the warmly recommended song here – although the uptempo 70s funk side has breaks (including drums at the start & end), and might be some people’s pick. (Has some very faint print ghosting, as is sometimes the case with this title, looks fine though. Nice copy) The Sunflowers “Mariana (Hustle)” (Sunflower) VG/VG+ £2000 Unique & exquisite 70s group soul. Starting at ballad tempo, it goes through various builds & drops throughout, holding & releasing the energy as it develops. Truly a sound like no other – and incredibly for 2023, there is no sales history. (Appears to be from the Dominican Republic, although the label looks distinctly Miami. This copy is likely a one-off. I’ve been told it’s the only one to surface: I got it from the guy who made the Discogs listing, who got it from the guy who put it on Youtube. Has a bit of intro cue burn, then plays fine, vinyl not styrene.) Cummings Electric Sounds “Electric Sounds / (Part 2)” (Twin’s) VG+ £50 Spacey funk from DC. (Despite the discogs entry which states that this earlier pressing plays off centre, the copy on offer here plays fine. Slight warp not affecting anything) Kim Katrell “Looking For A Good Man / Tomorrow” (Tyson) VG to VG+ Offers Powerful dancefloor funk from New York, with potential for the crossover & 70s circuit. As with the Sunflowers record above, to call this rare would be an understatement. The deep funk days of yesteryear are getting a bit hazy now, but I’m fairly sure this was known back then by a single copy. It appears only ever to have sold once online – in 2016, via a sketchy-looking auction – and although I didn’t notice that sale at the time, judging by the label this copy is almost certainly the same one. (Light wear, uptempo side plays fine, flip is VG, both have a bit of ringwear. Once again, feel free to enquire about this, and I would also consider trades.)
  4. I've now reduced these.
  5. Click the song titles for audio. Enquiries welcome - please email ruralconcourse@yahoo.com to reserve, etc. Thanks, George Richard & The Nationals “Blow Wind” (D.P.G.) VG+ £800 Great northern / uptempo soul, backed by the Rocking Cavaliers. Rare, and apparently still quite obscure (not currently listed at Discogs, anyway), this seems to have only ever come up twice on the computer: once ruined, and once in VG eight years ago. (Has a few marks but plays well, light ringwear. B side is VG and has more ringwear.) Helene Smith “China Melody / What’s in the Lovin” (Deep City) VG++ £225 Powerful dark ballad, along with a solid funky northern side. (Very faint dish not affecting play, hard to see, visible just slightly when uptempo side is playing) Atmosfear “Xtra Special (Dry Mix) / (Wet Mix)” (Elite) VG++ £170 Disco/modern smasher with a gorgeous pilled-up vibe, hard on 7”. My preference is the Dry Mix, though some may prefer the slappier, elongated Wet Mix. (Small hole UK pressing) Wilson Pickett “Shameless” (EMI) VG++ £20 UK only 45 of this moody two step smash (Virtually M-, silver EMI sleeve is creased) IND “Into New Dimensions / Everybody Likes to Do It” (Erect) VG++ £30 Spacey stepper with lush high-reaching group vocals, soulful boogie flip. (Disc looks M- but has a very faint whisp of styrene ringwear. There’s also a dish warp only visible when boogie flip is playing) The Untouchables “Find A New Love / Standing There” (FAAP) VG £300 Funky northern barnstormer, with nice sweet soul flip. A VG copy recently sold for $800 on auction. (Warp, causing swoosh on A side before the music starts, then fine; some label wear at bottom of A side) 35th Street Gang “You’ve Got Charisma / The Boogie Man” (Guess) VG+ £250 Rare 70s funk from the band behind many a Norfolk session. (A bit more wear and a touch of ringwear on Boogie Man side) Wilson Williams “A Whole Lot to be Thankful For / Honey Rock” (How Big) strong VG £140 Excellent deep ballad, with uptempo soul side that will be the one for many. (Plays really well, light label wear and small number in pen on Whole side) Todd Action “Dance / instrumental” (K) VG- £650 Banging modern/boogie from Ohio that seems to remain quite rare. (A-side has some scratches; very slight warp not affecting play) Vandollen “Prayer With Doubt / Seeking” (King Bee) VG+ £50 Very odd, little-known synth gospel with a groove. Both sides have appeal. (Very faint lift not affecting play, and label mark on B side) Preacherman Isidore Womack – The Unlimited “I’ve Got Power in my Mind / Every Time I Think of You” (no label) strong VG £650 Unique “outsider” gospel funk. Remains rare. (A side has marks but plays great, clean label. B side has some light tics and a faint whisp of ringwear) The Royal Kings “Let’s Do the Tighten Up / It’s Got to be You” (Reverb) VG+ £30 Two uptempo 60s tracks from Roanoke VA. Soul Brothers Inc. “Tear Drops” (Salem) VG+ Sold Northern anthem of epic proportions. (A Bit of light ringwear, light wear, plays great; small and fairly discrete drill hole) Barbara Stant “(You’ve Got To) Try It Again / (I’ve Found Me A) Real Man” (Shiptown) VG++ £140 Classic 70s double sider. (Original copy in nice shape, virtually M-) Barbara Redd “I’ll Be All Alone / Dancing Teardrops” (SPQR) VG+ Sold Rollicking R’n’B sides (Has some groove wear, plays great. Tiny mark nap on Teardrops side; biro x on Alone side) Mighty Joe Young “Suffering Soul” (Webcor) VG++ £35 Driving minor key dancer (Nice clean copy, virtually M-)

  7. James Kelly Duhon “So Far Down / Can You Learn To Love Me” (Jude) VG+/VG- Amazing '70s dancer, plus a ballad with a similarly windswept & lovelorn vibe. The best and rarest record from a stellar artist. (“So Far Down” plays near-perfectly. Ballad has more wear and plays with tics.) Satagans “Lovers To Friends / Smokin” (Yambo) VG++ Killer & unique ballad, paired with excellent psychedelic funk. In high demand. (Nice copy, plays flawlessly. 2x biro x’s on "Smokin" side) I'm taking bids on these until this Friday, 6pm UK time, unless I get a strong enough offer before then. Many thanks, George jameskellyduhon.mp3 jameskellyduhon_ballad.mp3 satagans_lovers.mp3 satagans_smokin.mp3

All clips from the actual discs, recorded flat with no alterations. Postal prices are £3 UK recorded / £8 UK special delivery / £5 airmail to Europe / £6 rest of the world / £11 tracked & signed service outside the UK. Where offers are invited, I will take bids until 6pm GMT this coming Friday, 16th Oct. and keep people informed if they're outbid - although should a strong enough offer come in before that time, I might agree an immediate sale. cheers, George 45s ~ alphabetical by label Julius Brockington & the Magic Force “This Feeling / Cosmic Force” (Burman) VG++ £25 Two thumping downtempo funk sides. (Looks M-; B side is pressed a bit off centre) Keni Lewis “Ain’t Gonna Make It Easy / What’s Your Sign” (Del-Vel) VG+ £75 Solid crossover, ballad flip. Glen Miller “Where Is The Love / Funky Broadway” (Doctor Bird) strong VG offers The JA crossover masterpiece. (Light marks but plays strong, with only very light scattered tics that don’t distract. 4-prong centre intact. Faint whisp of ringwear on A side, but both labels look nice, with no writing or marking.) Current bid £600 Playher! How? “Constance Koko Dawn / Virgin” (Dri Bones) VG-/VG+ CHECK £100 Spacey instrumental synth stepper; uptempo boogie flip. Seems very obscure. (Has some intro tics on the instrumental side, but soon cleans up. Record is otherwise fairly clean) David Porter “I’m Afraid The Masquerade Is Over / Hang On Sloopy” (Enterprise) VG £20 Wu drums with a moody beat ballad from the classic LP (Slight lift nap) Junius (Bugs) Hughes “I’m Just What The Doctor Ordered” (Hew) G £500 Uptempo ‘60s fire out of NY / VA. Not many copies out there. (NOTE: This copy plays fine, and would be a solid VG, but it has a short crack - about 1cm - from the outer edge, not affecting play once the music starts, although there are a few swooshes during the run-in.) The Inclinations “I’m Gonna Make Love Last This Time / The Harder We Try” (Janus) VG white demo £150 Ballad-with-a-beat perfection, plus a strong sweet side. (Vinyl copy, with non-intrusive label fold-mark on flip side. "The flip has tics and so is more like VG-.) Aramis “Let Me Tell You” (Jin) M- £25 Obscure Louisiana funk. Larry Nevilles “This Time It’s Real” (LaRay) VG+ £25 Underrated old school modern. Gene & Eddie “It’s No Sin / You’ve Got To Love Me Sometimes” (Mon’ca) G+ £35 Excellent DC crossover. The midtempo ballad flip is also really solid. (Yellow label variation. Has some tics, light surface noise & ringwear.) Bennie Braxton “Come To Me / Blue Sky” (Phanelson) VG £100 Powerful stepper, rare on 7”. (Playing surface is a bit scuffy and there is some run-in crackle but it’s barely audible once the music starts and quickly cleans up. Faint label stain to right of A side label) The Specials “I Can’t Find Another / Inst.” (Satch) VG £300 Uptempo funky soul of the most powerful variety. (Has marks & scratches, but plays great) Rodney Jerome Keitt “West Oak Lane Jam” (Sirr Rodd) VG £20 Breakbeat boogie-funk, excellent record. (Looks clean, but seems to be slightly mispressed stock – plays with scattered tics as you can hear, slight lift nap – I also have a 2nd copy available in similar shape) Crystal “Music / Music” (Soundsmith) VG with label tears £1200 Serious modern soul rarity out of Baton Rouge. Hard to beat! (Two similar versions of the same song: A side is VG- and plays ok with some tics from about halfway through. B side is VG+ and plays great. Both label have quite a few tears.) Getto Kitty “Stand Up & Be Counted” (Stroud) close to M- £65 Classic funky soul with a timely theme; still sounding great. Mighty Ryeders “Let There Be Peace / Fly Away With Me” (Sun-Glo) white demo VG+ £850 One of the best funky modern soul tunes in my opinion – so much style. The oft-forgotten flip is a muscular instrumental fronted by Donald Byrd-like trumpet. (Solid copy: light wear, plays fine. Labels have the faintest whisp of wear but still look good.) Richard Marks “Funky Four Corners” (Tuska) M- £35 Classic Georgia funk on the original label. (Looks like an unplayed stock copy. Faint lift not affecting play – only visible while instrumental side is playing) Sadane “One Minute From Love” (Warner Bros) VG++ £30 Scorcher (Very slight dish not affecting play. Close to M-, one tiny mark in pressing nap)
  9. Please email ruralconcourse@yahoo.com to reserve. Grading: M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG / VG- / G (VG++ is the same as EX in UK Record Collector terms). Thanks, George Street Players “Ain’t No Doubt” (Ariola) M- £25 Top notch, muscular two step; can easily hold its own in the club against higher tempos and other power steppers. Highly recommended. Ready, Willing & Able “Trouble / Take It” (Bennett) VG+ £125 Uptempo funky soul from Detroit. Seems little known, but is surely ripe for spins. (Very, very slight dish not affecting play) Future Force “Reincarnation” (Big Deal) VG++ £75 Spacey modern dancer. (Picture sleeve is just about VG+ with light wear/creasing and a very faint sticker mark at top right. Radio station letters on labels, and small strip on discoloration on “Reincarnation” label) “Spread Love Remix / Gazillian Rhyme Remix” (Bozo Meko) VG+ £100 Rare 7” pressing of these 45 King club hammers. Jimmy Lomax & The Vows “Come On Home / Remember Me” (Cab) VG/VG+ £75 Uptempo 60s funky soul with two drum breaks, and a tremendous deep soul flip. (Relatively clean, but a slightly hissy pressing, similar to the last copy I had three or four years back. Very faint pencil on one label – I didn’t notice it until grading) Neal Brown “If By Chance / She’s A Fine Woman” (Chart Sound) VG++ £40 Northern A side, crossover flip. Leroy Hutson “Never Know What You Can Do / In The Mood” (Curtom) VG+/VG £30 One of his best. Issue-only vinyl copy. (Has some wear, but “Never Know” plays well. Flip plays with a touch of noise.) Stanley Ivory “Gotto See My Baby” (Dellita) VG+ £175 Tremendous 70s beat ballad from DC, with stepping tendencies. Surely his best. (Slight dish not affecting play, and needs to be played with a light needle otherwise it skips forward a rotation at one point - last time I listed this I had multiple orders at £250) Frankie Beverly’s Raw Soul “Color Blind / Mother Nature’s Been Good To Us” (Gregar) M- £75 Excellent funk song, which stands up for current spins. Eco-ballad flip. (Promo copy; comes with lyric sheet insert. Ballad side closer to VG++) Coach House Rhythm Section “No Such Thing (Inst.)” (Ice) VG+ £35 Soaring islands-disco-funk on UK Ice. Cissy Houston “Nothing Can Stop Me” (Janus) M- £35 Absolutely stunning ballad - essential. (Looks unplayed) Oliver Christian “Frankie’s Got It / Too Many Nites” (Legrand) VG £25 Pysch-y funky soul, celebrating the legendary Norfolk record store, with breaks in the breakdown. (Plays great on uptempo side, but has styrene distortion on ballad side. xol) Third Creation “Puppet On A Chain / Part 2” (Madhatter) VG++ £250 Fantastic funky soul from Chicago – Part 2, which finally dissolves into a break, is a total killer although some may prefer the A side. (Reduced from last list) 100 Years Time “Woman Of Soul / Put Your Hand In Your Mind” (Merrecca Music) strong VG to VG+ £150 Little-known funky soul dancer for the upfront DJs, with nice psych funk flip. Has only surfaced a handful of times over the years. (Yellow label variation. Flip is VG. Reduced from last list) David Gage “Second Chance” (One-Way) VG++ £40 Dark funky soul – remains underrated. The Trells “Bad Weather / I’m Sorry” (Port City) VG++ £30 Nice falsetto ballad, with uptempo funky northern-type flip. Doc Oliver “Are You Ready-I’m Ready (Sing About Love) / Part 2” (Rock City) VG++ £50 Oddball 70s funk from Little Rock. Only seems to have surfaced recently. Part 2 hits more to me, although both sides are engrossing if you can appreciate the whacked out vocals. The Five Voices of Reggie Milner “Do You Want To Have A Love? / Instrumental” (Ron’s) VG++ £150 Phenomenal falsetto ballad from Detroit, with a woozy hip-hop style version on the other side. Jim White & The Motor City Orchestra “Free Style / I’ll Play The Fool” (Setting Sun) VG+ £20 Disco-funk with a modern dancer on the flip, both based on the same groove. Dandelion Wine “Hot Dog” (Sussex) M- £75 Classic funk: Theo-Coff in Meters mode, with big drum breaks. (Close to M- with company sleeve) Porgy & The Monarchs “That’s My Girl / The Girl And The Boy” (Sylves) VG++ £100 Excellent 60s double sider. (Light green label Chess-distributed variant. Has a tiny chip from label at centre, likely a cut-out hole. A slight touch of haze to playing surface on A side) Turning Point “Got To Get Up – Git Out / Deeper In Love” (Turning Point) VG/VG- £60 Smashing Texas boogie/modern, with sweet flip. (Lots of marks but plays great on dancer side, a few tics on ballad side but still plays well. Signature on labels) The Dependables “Out In The Streets Again / It’s Incomplete” (Vestpocket) VG++ £25 70s dancers. Theatrics “We Got A Love / I Got Cha (Where I Want You)” (VR) VG++ £35 Gorgeous 70s soul/ballad with a beat. (Close to M-) Julius Thomas “I Gotta Change My Ways / Part 2” (Wild) M- £15 Killer sweet soul, the second version being my favourite. Uptempo funky disco style dancer, with a really nice soulful roots-crossover track on the flip. (Picture sleeve has a name and phone number written on it, and a few fine pen marks on rear) Geno & the Pharoahs “Exit To The Beltway / Miss Heartbreaker” (Allen) VG+ £300 on hold Raw uptempo breakbeat funk, with stunning ballad. This is the first record by the “Brand New Man With The Master Plan” guy and is not an easy find, especially in nice shape. Joe Anderson “You And I / Long Version” (Buddah) demo VG+/VG- £20 Nice ’70s soul. (A side plays great as you can hear, long version plays with lots of surface noise) The Charisma Band “Ain’t Nothing Like Your Love / Charisma Road” (Buddah) VG++ £300 Modern/crossover classic - still sounds majestic. The funk side is pretty decent. Sharp copy. (Close to M- / in company sleeve / very slightly bubbly label) The Soul Controllers “I Ain’t Lyin’ / Right On, Brother-Right On” (Cat) VG++ £150 Two solid funk sides out of Alabama - the first swings tight, and the second might work well for the current UK funk/northern scene. Beautiful label design (this is not the Miami imprint). The Summits “Sleepwalking / I’ll Never Say No” (DC International) VG/VG+ £40 Funky soul with a great crossover track – two solid sides. (Dish not affecting play) The Master Plan “Clinton Park” (De-Lite) mono / stereo - strong VG to VG+ £35 Excellent crossover harmony. This white demo comes with a FREE promo copy of the group’s funk track “Frying Pan”, which is on the flip of the issue to “Clinton Park”. (Light marks, plays well) Percy Larkins “I Need To See You Again / Second Chance At Love” (Encore) VG++ £30 Two obscure modern sides from Florida. Jeff Perry “Call On Me / Inst.” (Epic) VG+ £40 Classic & classy modern. (Disc looks VG++ and plays great, but looks to have a fracture – in other words it isn’t cracked, but may do in the future if treated without care) Sonny & Diane “Love Trap” (Epic) VG/VG+ £40 Another tricky-to-find ‘70s spin, this one probably a bit lesser-known. Hazel Ramberransingh “I Wanna Give You Everything / Inst.” (HIR) VG++/VG+ £75 Islands disco. (Dish not affecting play & slight ringwear / comes in Wirl company sleeve with a few creases) Westpoint “Come & Get The Love / High Steppin’” (Hitmaker) VG++ £150 Fine ‘80s stepper, with slapping flip. (Close to M-) Pete Parker “I Can’t Stop Loving My Baby” (Kapp) white demo VG++ £50 Solid funk. (Close to M- in company sleeve) Gem Prewitt “My Love Box / Among The Stars” (Key) VG offers Amazing club tune, with odd B side. There was a scramble for copies several years back when the word went around and some frenzied trading occurred - all seem to be in deep collections now. (Some tics. Slight dish not affecting play favouring the “Love Box” side & labels reversed, like all copies I think. Just drop me an email if you’re interested.) Coke Escovado “Make It Sweet / Rebirth” (Mercury) VG+ £25 Infectious ‘70s soul. (“Rebirth” has a small scratch towards the end causing a few light tics) 100 Years Time “Woman Of Soul / Put Your Hand In Your Mind” (Merrecca Music) strong VG to VG+ £300 Upfront funky soul dancer with psych funk flip. I don’t think “Woman Of Soul” has ever done the rounds of the soul clubs, but surely it’s a ripe candidate for rotation. Has only surfaced a handful of times over the years. (Yellow label variation. Flip is VG) The Day-Tons “Broad Jumping / Part 2” (Moneytown) VG £150 Seldom seen, little-known, much heavier first recording of this raucous DC funk jam. Part 2 is the better side in my opinion. Philharmonics “I Need, I Need Your Love” (Soulin) VG++ £150 Feel-good NOLA crossover classic; still sounds the business. (Slightly hazy playing surface, like all the copies I’ve seen) The Hamilton Movement “Love Man / We’re Gonna Party” (Soundwaves) white demo strong VG to VG+ £50 Scorching ballad with uptempo flip. (X on label / a touch of faint label staining, still looks fine) Sam Dees “Lonely For You Baby / I Need You Girl” (SSS International) VG+ £500 sold Northern classic. (Light marks, plays great) Michael Dean “Lovehygh / Remix” (Sterling Wave Sound) VG++ £50 (Dish not affecting play, in favour of vocal version / flip has a little very faint intro noise – check clip) Cobie Joe Payne “Sweet Thing” (Sweet Thang) VG++ £250 Uptempo funk roller with lovely afro jazz-style horns. Strong Milwaukee release – is the funky soul scene ready to bring this madness out of obscurity yet?
  11. Please email ruralconcourse@yahoo.com to reserve. thanks, George (alphabetical by label) Johnny Ross “Big Bruce / Part II” (Bak) VG++ £120 Breakbeat-led funk with heavy reverb sound FX and a really attractive label design. (Don’t be fooled when googling for this: it’s all about Part II and the other, common pressing is a weak version.) Big Bruce Part II Beverly & Duane “Love / You Belong To Me” (Brown Bomber) VG £50 Soulful midtempo 70s, with uptempo flip. (Two biro stars on “Love” label. That side plays well apart from two pops near the start and a few lighter tics towards the end. “You Belong” plays great. Faint lift NAP) Love You Belong To Me Jeffrey Rolle “Reality of Love” (Candy Store Strawberry Soul) VG++ £400 Obscure and virtually unknown. Dark, funky, rolling, atmospheric - and distributed to no one, it seems, judging by the lack of copies out there. Upfront DJs take note! Reality Of Love Deep Heat “Do It Again / She’s A Junkie (Who’s The Blame)” (Cu-Wu) VG++ £500 One of the greatest soulful funk tracks of the 70s – they have such a beautiful feel going here. Solid funk flip. (Very, very faint ringwear) Do It Again She's A Junkie Shabadoo “Do It (One More Time) / Instrumental Version” (Dore) strong VG++ £70 Lush disco with a great vibe, in two versions (I think the mix on the B side is the one). Do It Do It - Instrumental Lucy Stone “Giving Love Instead Of Gold” (Fire Mountain) VG++ £900 Top 10 modern soul – so lush, so current-sounding. Giving Love Instead Of Gold Nu-Cleus “It’s Real Love / Needing A Woman” (Ffull Strength) VG++ £500 Killer modern/disco for the club, with a really original sound. Stepper flip. It's Real Love Needing A Woman The Myxx “Don’t Ever Leave / Mixed Up” (Mark Custom) M- £650 Early ‘80s soul at its finest – this thing is fantastic. The spacey ballad on the flip is also good, and gets into stepping territory as it goes on. Don't Ever Leave Mixed Up Chocolate Syrup “Who You Tryin To Fool Girl” (MTVH) VG++ £20 Strong 70s ballad. (Slightly off centre but sounds fine to me. The lame funk flip is more off, but I can’t see anyone wanting to listen to it and I also think it’s probably a general pressing problem with this record) Who You Tryin To Fool Girl Jay Baldwin “So Glad I Met You / Son Of Mine” (Ronina) VG £40 Obscure 70s sweet soul with midtempo soul-funk flip. So Glad I Met You Son Of Mine Michael Bell “Can’t Make It Without You” (Saru) strong VG/VG+ £50 Lesser-seen title from the kings of Cleveland, who deliver the usual quality of early ‘70s funky soul we’ve come to expect. (Two small label tears, still looks ok) Can't Make It Without You Gloria Taylor “How Can You Say It / Love Is A Hurtin’ Thing” (Selector Sound) VG+/VG £175 Two of her finest, personally I prefer “How Can” but they’re both phenomenal. How Can You Say It Love Is A Hurtin Thing Freddie Lowe “Decisions” (Sirocco) VG £225 Strong 70s soul, featuring a shortened version and a longer mix on the other side. (A little intro noise that soon clears up & very slight warp NAP) Decisions Decisions - Long Aggression “Tag” (SRI) VG-/G- £25 Underground disco out of DC. (Small hole, plays at 33rpm / “Radio” side plays strong, “Disco” side has intro clicks that clear up after a while / slight warp NAP) Tag Tag - Disco The Page Three “Wait! One Minute Baby / The Love We Had” (Tenacious) VG+ £175 Two dramatic 70s ballads, both of which are fantastic. Wait! One Minute Baby The Love We Had The Black Truth Band “Butter Nut / Part II” (The Black Truth) VG++ £1000 One of the greats – on a par with Kool & the Gang at their best, and with a massive break. Still smashes hard, and can fit well into modern/disco sets. (Slight warp NAP) Butter Nut - Part II Monica Higgins “It’s The Real Thing” (United Artists) demo - strong VG++ £65 Mono / stereo demo of this fine 70s soul spin. (Clean copy in sharp company sleeve) It's The Real Thing

Huge northern spin, and a recent cover up for the top few DJs on the all-nighter circuit. A copy sold on one of Manship’s auctions for over £1300 a while back in similar condition. (Dish not affecting play / some ringwear on instrumental side) Too Big To Cry Carl Hall "Mean It Baby / You Don't Know Nothing About Love" (Loma) G+/VG £25 Classic northern with deep flip. (Northern side is compromised by large scratch, plays surprisingly well though, please check clip before ordering. Ballad side is is strong VG to VG+ and labels are clean.) Mean It Baby You Don't Know Great Pride “She’s A Lady” (MGM white demo) VG++ £40 Opens with a drum break and goes into awesome downtempo reverbed-out funky soul with hip-hop appeal. Not terribly easy to find. (Nice clean copy, mono/stereo / two tiny, discreet red spots on mono side) She's A Lady Lawrence Carroll’s Peoples Band “One Hundred Years From Now” (Raina) VG+ £75 Moody instrumental funk with flavour. One Hundred Years From Now Natural Love “Goodbye My Love” (RSP) VG++ £25 Late 70s-sounding harmony ballad. (Sounds good overall with click just before music starts, ballad flip is more like VG-) I Don't Know You Love Will Rise Bardo Martinez “Bad Education / Inst.” (Timmion) M- / M- £6 Possibly the best new release of the year to date – dancefloor fire with a message that comes highly recommended. (With picture sleeve and obi strip) Bad Education Mugo “Organize / Space Travel” (United World) solid VG £40 Powerful ‘70s breakbeat funk from DC. (Very small warp not affecting play) Organize Space Travel

Listen: https://concourserecords.co.uk/musi…/mickeyernie_iminlove.mp3 Infatuations “Who Is To Blame / Keep Your Body Moving” (Poormans) VG+ £135 This jumps out of the gate like a track from Camp Lo’s first LP, before dropping into 70s group nirvana-state. The flip is a tight modern-boogie-funk dancefloor workout, which will obviously be the side for many. (Plays great both sides, minor surface marks only.)
