  1. i went to a couple of memorial events at the end of last year for lost friends , it was great to see many old friends but by and large the music bored me and i went home early.........so its back to my strategy of the last fifteen  plus years..........seek out the the top players and the people listening and learning from them and travel to enjoy the best., although i havent travelled abroad... a huge mistake now i know whats out there......................the internet and the new generation of artists has given us so much wider scope, no need to give up on the scene, but you gotta work harder to escape the mundane most accept as they socialise while doing so and thats up to them....ez

  2. i knew froggy slightly around those days..from soul does in gloucester area , going to  the royal william , the library , very  early stand out memories for me before cats , torch etc, the wax machine soul shop and other haunts, froggy  a figure to be looked up to by a sprog like me.....reckon the pic  was 72 or 3.......... always remember froggy had an afghan coat which looked like a dead sheep...........x

Mod is a mindset, not a specific fashion or a particular set of clothing items–that comes from the revivalists.

Mod meant constantly being in fashion/style (call it what you will). It meant not being a Grebo, a Hairy or a Mummy's Boy.

It meant treating a night out as an adventure and being interested in music which wasn't being force-fed to you by Radio One, the Melody Maker or any other arm of the grown-up world.

The transition from Mod to Skinhead to Suede to Soul person was natural and organic. Just as the clothes and hairstyles evolved so did the music. It's all part of the same aesthetic.

That 'Mod' sensibility drove the scene. Maybe it's unhelpful to give it that particular name because it conjures up images of a very specific set of clothes or hairstyles.

this post sums up my lifestyle in those days plus drinking and fighting ,having a gang of mates you would die for...........never thought of myself as a mod , that was for older guys but they showed me the way, and thats how it goes each generation takes something from the last and changes it to suit the new times and vibes they are growing into.........stay safe x

According to John Ridley's fantastic website Bobby Long released fifteen singles between 1957 & 1970 but as Sirshambling points out there is virtually no information of note on this singer & musician.

He was probably from New Jersey and he used a stage name - it has been suggested that his real name was Sammy Bratcher Does anyone know anything more ? There is surely more to tell.  My favourite of his that I have is this one.

always loved this ..think the other side was good to ?..........sold it years ago.........x

    Hi Mike,

I picked it up of Steve Smith (I think thats his name, Gloucester way) at a different event (the specifics elude me though). I was djing there and as soon as I put it on the turntable that night it packed the floor.

Enjoying this thread/debate and thanks for the info about the singer which I didn't know. At one stage I thought he may be blue eyed as the B side is not very good (to my ears) and  I also heard another release by Jonathan Capree that was poor and a bit country sounding as I remember (again to my ears).

hi paul, steve smith was from gloucester and did torch wigan stafford etc, and jc is just the kind of 45 he would be finding and selling on...i saw him before xmas , he lives north of berlin, is known on the scene there  and attends the occassional niter .............ez
