  1. I HAVE HUNDREDS OF CLEAR SLEEVES THAT COME FROM THE STATES WITH THE 45 INSIDE NO IDEA IF THEY ARE PLASTIC OR POLYESTER

    KEV

polyester is a plastic. there are 3 types of materials the sleeves are generally made from, polyvinyl ("vinyl"), polyethylene, and polypropylene. vinyl sleeves are to be avoided at all costs as they offgas onto the records and ruin them.

mylar is a branded type of polyester that is recognized as the most archival and inert material that sleeves are generally made from.

  2. Interesting diversion on this thread.....Keep the roller skating records coming!

But what's the connection between Real Humdinger and Real Nice then. Similar sound for sure, same singer name too, but surely not the same guy as JJB?

Cap City was from DC and owned by one Foster Johnson.....and yet the coincidences are there for all to see....anyone know for sure?

you know roller skating records are a whole genre, right? like vaughn mason bounce, rock, skate, roll. i never knew there were specific skating records in the '60s until this thread though.

  3. roller skating (e.g. at a rink with old school 4 wheel skates) is actually still really big in the south side of chicago, there is a big rink in Markham (south suburb). I've heard Gladys Knight comes to that rink when she's in Chicago to roller skate. There is a younger set of skaters that are the "JB Skaters" that do routines to James Brown, I'm sure there's videos of them on youtube.

  4. Vestax vote again here. Had one for years and use it regularly as a testing deck.

Good thing is you can get 4 batteries for it for £2 at any quid shop and they last weeks.

Great for taking to record fairs/Car boots too.

my vestax uses 6 D batteries

  5. Just read this article...Ive used the Crosley Revolution at record shows and it seem to be a decent player. Its about the same price as the vestax. One big advantage i see is that it is smaller and fits into a bag easier.

i've heard the crosley revolution is really shitty in terms of how it's built. don't have personal experience with hit though.

  6. I had the Vestax when it first came out but I couldn't live with it. The design of the tone arm pick up is too small and too low and I found it very difficult to take off the record without scratching the vinyl. Also the Numark has an adjustable pitch control. Numark for me. Oh, and the Numark is much louder when you are at a nighter you need to be able to hear it.

the vestax has a pitch control and a tone control (and I have the first model that i bought a week within it coming out). that's why hiphop DJs can use it. why is it difficult to take off the record without scratching it?

can't comment on the volume, but i wouldn't use any portable without headphones.

  7. I have the vestax handitrax, the first portable made in the new wave of portables, somewhere between 10-15 years ago. although it seems plasticky, i can confirm that it's built like a tank, as i still have it and it's had heavy abuse and even been underwater for two days once (rain flooding my car related). i actually use it at home too to listen to stacks of 45s with headphones. You can hear the plasticy tonearm but overall it sounds decent.

they recently doubled in price though as they have become popular with hiphop DJs setting up in parks and running a pair through mixers.

  8. there hasn't been, legit or bootleg. i would offer to record all the ones i have but i'm really swamped right now. if you get most of them you can hit me up for one or two recordings.

  9. Going by info from a previous thread on here, this is only way you can own on a 45 via grapevine, was a acetate only which Richard Sealing had/has: The Magnetics feat John Mckinney:

I said this above, but this record doesn't have the magnetics on it. It is John McKinney of the Magnetics though.

I have a really nice copy of the Mystiques "Put out the fire" / "So glad to have you home again" up for sale. "Put out the fire" is currently in-demand funky northern and "So glad" is one of the greatest sweet soul cuts of all time.

The record is, conservatively, a strong VG, only some very light surface scuffs on each side. There is a cut-out hole on the label, which is the nice color stock label. Here are 300DPI scans of each side:

Offers starting at $800. Paypal gift only. I will pay global express shipping. Please only make an offer if you can pay within 24 hours. Please only send offers to SITPSales@gmail.com. Thank you.

  12. someone in TX turned up some small quantity of satin that went through ebay like 5 years ago. didn't affect price much.

i think johnny dollar stole the song, when i was going through john mckinney's stuff i actually found sheet music for the song that had him as writing it (I guess it could have been stolen from him). but there's also the weird title changes. let me see if i scanned the sheet music.

I have a copy of the Internationals - Too sweet to be lonely / Beautiful philosophy for trade. It has almost full gloss, moderate light surface scuffs, and a few marks on each side. Plays perfect. Here is full 256kbs stereo audio of each side:

I'm looking for a steptones "lonely one" in at least VG (e.g. similar to this record) or better condition, a good fileable copy. Will consider other rare group records in trade. If I can't get a trade, would sell for $250 paypal gift ppd anywhere in the world, but would prefer a trade. Please email me at sitpsales@gmail.com to inquire. Thank you.

  14. Satin is Lennie Satin, who also recorded a record on FIP.

Nate Evans pressed both versions of the 45 himself.

"The magnetics" is not the magnetics, it's John McKinney (of the Magnetics) with just some girls backing, recorded in New York.

Either the Satin or Phelps is the first version, probably the Satin.
